  1. Sorry to hear you can't make it Jordan. I guess Crawley Sep15 and Winchester Oct20 are well out of your way. Leigh next April 27? Fancy an M420 brass kit? Jason
  2. BTW there are well over 100 traders plus societies and layouts including 2 test tracks for your purchases from bring'n'buy and estates stands. Jason
  3. Yup, the content is up there twice. Didn't look like that in the Preview. Ah well, the first bit was from the post to the G0G Forum cut and pasted. Anyway, see you at Telford if you want to talk about it some more Jason
  4. Just in case there are any other Telford visitors here with interest in N American O-scale, we are getting together for a coffee (well OK, I'll have tea) at 2pm both days in the cafe area. Maple Leaf/Stars 'n' Stripes small flags on the table. If you know possibly interested parties who just can't bear the white-heat of this Forum please pass this invitation on. Thanks Jason For all you Guildex 2018 visitors here with an interest in N American O-scale, we are getting together for a coffee (well OK, I'll have tea) at 2pm both days in the cafe area. Maple Leaf/Stars 'n' Stripes small flags on the table. If you know other American O-scalers who are attending Guildex 2018, but don't do forums please pass this invitation on. 6. Couldn't help but ask Google about FGLK decals, but the wife's done the toast so here's the first hit: https://modernrails.com/products/fglk-railway-bay-window-caboose-ho-decal-set Friend of mine in O-scale asked to borrow a Railpace from years ago which had an article on the real thing, I'll ask him what he's doing about decals. Jason
  7. I've always wanted to do another shortline, but need something with a long tender for the 'Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina'. Oh why make things difficult? I'll use '&' instead of 'and' Doc you've reminded me of individual lettering with a piece of not too sticky sticky-tape as a guide. Haven't done any of that since I had to start wearing glasses, back in the days of Letraset dry-transfer lettering. Jason
  8. I'm trying to find the name of a small business making a line of HO resin and metal steam loco kits. Clues ... hmmm, 1990s or later? Ohio/West Virginia/Pennsylvania way? Eastern prototypes - D&H of course, Erie?, N&W? Here's a few spare question marks - ????? ?? ???? ? ???? in case they're useful. Thanks Jason
  9. Hi Colin As a D&H man I thought a paducah was a growth on your foot. Anyway, I have an O Scale America Horst Air Filter detail part, pics attached. Is it the right one, shall I measure it, excuse the knee and lay your screen on its right side. Got to go now and light the bbq! Jason
  10. Hi Paul, you have probably seen this already: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:H%C5%BD_2044_series_locomotive_drawing.png Not a very big dwg, but Americans abroad are always fascinating. See you at Winchester though my contribution as usual will be North American domestic. Hmmm, is that like a GP38 cab... and that nose is like... and the radiator and roof at the end could be close enough to an Atlas GP15 spare part ... hmmm. Jason
  11. Sorry if you've seen it Jordan, this sort of stuff is so watchable and there's hours of it... Jason
  12. D&H layout, lots of lovely Alcos ... D&H Alcos, lovely layout ... lots of Alcos, lovely D&H ... lots of D&H Alcos - lovely ... get back in the garage time-waster - D&H O-scale, with Alcos and with any luck eventually lovely.
  13. Now c'mon Jason, just keep holding your breath till something else becomes more important in life than just kid's toy makers making otherwise sane people mindlessly accept that, no their tool-making costs wouldn't have been better spent on a simplified prototype model that grandchildren could be playing with on the living-room floor as well as older modellers, by simply adding more detail, running a good scale model ... paaaaahhhhh ... oh 53 seconds - not bad
  14. Red Caboose GP9 kit (about $70 at Des Plaines), Atlas/Roco F9, sharp knife, saw, glu..., sorry Dan, you're ahead of me on these bits. I've got some F9 bits, etc, etc.
  15. In many cases the plastic ones will do .... P&D do nice brass ones!
  16. Well I haven't played the acoustic drums recently, so the bass drum has gone up into the roof in the garage and the L-shaped layout I acquired more years ago than I should admit could, er ... might, ummm ... ought to become O-shaped. Having a running layout will help me test anything I resurrect - finished a Weaver RS3 today, in the post tomorrow. Then there's that brass Central Loco Works GP38-2. There we are - EMD - back on topic! If you've got 2 Atlas F9s, you could make a B-unit and have some useful bits left over for a CF7, even use some of the cab for an early one. If anyone has a go in O, let us know! Jason
  17. Feeling almost guilty here, nobody's mentioned other manufacturers for days! Anyway, the Delaware-Lackawanna, as highlighted by Long Island Jack above, has a whole roster of Alcos including obscure Canadian stuff (M420s) and C630s with hi-ad 3-axle trucks. Shame nobody their does O-scale decals yet, it's quite a challenging paint scheme - including two-colour body stripe and obscure graphic logos. Ah well, when I've modelled all the D&H I can start on something even more modern. What's that? Modelling today's SMS I can fiddle around with Reading decals and a nearly OK Weaver Baldwin VO-1000? Wow, North American railroads....
  18. Alcos, short passenger train, run-thru commuter coaches, repaint on leased dome car, international service, ride past large railroad shops, lakeside and distant mountain scenery, loco and road change at station en-route, passing freights with GPs, SDs, U-boats, etc, etc, what a modeller's choice : Rare RS-36 (D&H had 12 of only 40 units built) 5020 (Alco 84402 2/63) and RS-3 1508 with the Adirondack approaching Montreal West. 11/12/1974 James Gillin
  19. Could be soldering the lights on the RS3 today Dan Jason
  20. Feedback like this generates questions. I read up about switching relays and kid myself I understand why it has to be a Zero Crossover . Can you do a pic of the test bed. I remember being warned that TAS units could need as much as 14v., but the Lionel owner thought that was reasonable(!). The guy who started TAS got sucked into MTH or Lionel, can't remember which. A couple of years ago at the G0G Telford meet there was a class 20 on the MIGO stand(?). The exhaust came on really well at startup and tailed off on run. More later, Young Sheldon on now. Jason
  21. Dave, you've reminded me I took a smoke unit out of a Lionel unit I want to 2-rail and I haven't do.... Anyway, it looks difficult, fraught with danger, a good project then. Here's a site I found ... so not my fault if it doesn't work. Oh, your motor's red and black wires aren't regular feeds like his. Hmmm, test with a 1.5v battery then? https://elmassian.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=168&Itemid=203 Good luck and report back. Jason
  22. White River Productions have acquired O Scale Trains magazine. Don't forget they have digital versions of some of their mags (RMC, NG&SL, R&R) if US postage annoys you. O Scale Resource is a good digital only mag too. Jason
  23. You've probably found these, but Microscale do GP9 decals in the NYC-like scheme: http://www.microscale.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=FGLK
  24. Walthers - dependable. They've used USPS for my stuff, if it's a small packet and our Post Office delivers it, no extras. If it's a big enough box and/or value Parcelforce get it - no import duty these days just VAT on goods plus shipping cost and £8 for the man who worked it all out. Has anyone used the Global Shipment(?) service...? Many years ago I was assured by a US retailer that what they were telling me that Fedex would charge was final. Well, the final time I would risk Fedex it turned out. Any recent experiences with them out there? Jason
  25. P48?! Oh yes, that's what Mike Calvert's box says - NWSL P48 33" wheelsets. Just in case you want any. Jason
