  1. Thanks for the advice I too live in the north east and base the layout around LNER I have my son to blame as he wanted a train set for xmas 18months ago and it's still a work in progress 10x4 lots of lighting 200+led,s and 50m of wiring to date😅
  2. Picture attached, I gave up in the end and ordered from Hornby £21.99 plus postage! over 50% what I paid for the whole loco. A4 completely different and the other(cheaper) A3 valve gear has a distinct difference at the point where the fixing bracket joins to the gear it has a inverted v shaped join where as you can see from the picture the railroad only has 1 (arrowed) so didn't want to risk getting the wrong one as it could of worked out being more expensive. While we on valve gear I removed a connecting rod on a Hornby 0-6-0 to straighten as it looked a bit bent put it back on and now the wheels lock I have attempted numerous times and cant get it right the screw holes on the wheels are in a fixed position so I cant work out what I am doing wrong and cant find any info on the correct procedure anywhere maybe because it's so simple? And soon I am going to have to fit the valve gear to the A3 so any help/tips would be appreciated so I don't cock that up as well. I have just returned to the hobby after 40yrs and cant remember having any such problems when I was a teenager or maybe I have forgot more than I have learnt this time around😀
  3. I do have a railroad A4 if it looks the same I can do a swap to try it as the A4 valve gear is also in stock at my local dealer at just over £14 also.
  4. Thanks I did have that thought but wasn't sure if they came in some sort of sealed packaging, get it home and it doesn't fit then £14 wasted
  5. Yes but someone responded that it was posted in the wrong forum and should be in this one hence the re-post(I am new to this) was hoping someone might have a clue!
  6. Hi, The valve gear on my Hornby Railroad Flying Scotsman r3086 has snapped and looking at the service sheets the replacement is £20+ X6870 I cant believe Hornby completely re-tooled the valve gear for this model and the tornado alone. Does anyone know if any other valve gear is the same IE: Hornby X9382 which is cheaper and readily available at my local dealer. Many Thanks
  7. Ok thanks I am new to this forum and still learning how to navigate my way around

  11. Could that be because I also fitted cab lights(with resistors) to run with the directional lights?
  12. thanks for the reply was only considering soldering to change the directional lights as this has been commented as a fix on tts decoders, but if it didn't fix the flashing lights then i have wasted my time also if it didn't work i will be putting it back in a loco without directional lights that I only purchased for the tts sound to fit in the ViTrain and then sell the loco as just dcc fitted. Just thought someone might have came across the same issue I have only got a Bachmann EZ controller so cant play about with CV,s etc.
  13. Anyone any ideas? I know I can get the soldering iron out to sort the direction of the lights but don't want to do this and find the lights are still flashing! Thanks Andrew.
  14. Hi, I have put a tts sound decoder in my loco and the directional lighting constantly flashes whether the function is on or not and at the slightest of acceleration/deceleration and only works as it should at full power albeit in the wrong direction. It all works as it should on dc or when putting the non sound decoder back in any ideas? Thanks Andrew.
  15. managed to get a blanking plug, problem solved runs perfect now in both directions although now the directional lighting flickers away on the end that isn't supposed to be lit up ah well one problem often leads to another. Does that mean the decoder is heading towards the bin?
  16. Thanks I will turn the plug around and see what happens.
  17. Hi Pete, Thanks for the advice I did suspect that was the case I do have a H&M so will make sure I don't use half wave. I do plan switching to DCC so that is a result although I am getting a running issue in 1 direction all good but in the other it coughs and splutters and doesn't want to go until I give it plenty of volts ie: no slow running only fast could that be the decoder? I have checked every other possible cause and started to suspect it's causing the issue, bit strange it,s only in one direction. Thanks Andrew.
  18. Hi, I recently purchased this loco it wasn't advertised as either dcc ready or fitted and no reference is made either on the box or loco, but when I looked inside you can quite clearly see a pcb plugged into the 8 pin socket with numerous wires running to another pcb enclosed in a plastic cover. I only have DC and dont have much knowledge of DCC and any online help always says test it on DCC which I cannot do. If someone could have a look at the picture and advise me that would be great. The train runs fine on DC which it would anyway. Many Thanks Andrew.
