  1. Maybe the packing issue with this early set is one of the reasons the date for the rest slipped?
  2. Surely join lines are only unavoidable and need to be masked if the chassis is bowl shaped (cheaper and easier to engineer) if it is flat and the sides cover the “eye” line then the join line is underneath, staring at the track! I appreciate this prabably means a metal chassis so extra cost.
  3. Oh well tv licence to make it up! still great to see an hours programme dedicated to the new APT model! Even if it is only on Yesterday!
  4. Anyone Know which colour is closest to the actual APT and, were they all the same anyway?
  5. Regards the old version ndm, i think there are better ways to replace the motor, people have i believe used eurostar bogies successfully. I have 2 to do, and i intend to use “Hornby X9298 Class 35 5 Pole Drive Motor Unit & Wheels” i have the replacement units and they fit perfectly ( they look like a 5 pole version of the original to me) i do have one challenge, in that the NDM bogies are screwed to the motor assembly as is the plastic holder for the panto. I need to work out the right size and source a decent drill and tap. I guess others on the forum have done this in the past? Alternatively i could glue the assembly together but that would make maintenance a real challenge. thus far one of mine was a tight enough push fit for a test run, which went really well.
  6. When i saw that a couple of weeks back I rang them to ask, I was told the 7 car set is currently expected Jan 22. Which i guess someone thinks is winter 22, although winter 21/22 would be clearer. Still fingers crossed. now i need to get all my coaches our and see of they are ok, fingers crossed again…..
  7. How about tape on the inside to cove the gap but only fixed to the half with the lugs, like a short flap?
  8. 1) looking at the photo of the RL panto it appears to be an aluminium base with a painted steel panto fitted to it, so i guess painting the plastic part will be fairly close? I can’t really see how Hornby could have better modelled the panto other than a better colour finish on the top part? All “white metal “would be equally as wrong? 2) i dont know much about capacitors, but does anyone know if i wanted to make a marginal improvement to the look is there heat generated or would it be ok to put a thin card “mask” between the windows and the cap, either in black or colour coded to reduce how obvious it is?
  9. Oh can you ask not to have sauce then?
  10. The alternate (“high speed” ) pantograph should be available a spare ( i think the one fitted was the original testing panto as in the pictures Linked above) , but as yet Hornby have no stocks. When they do i was thinking i might want to get a spare, just in case….
  11. Feedback on coach opening from Hornby …to release the coach body from the chassis you will need to remove three screws from the under side of the chassis , there a 3 clips each side of the body ( 1/4 points front and back also mid point) insert a thin blade until you meet the clip then lever out to release… i seem to recall this is similar to the older version?
  12. I have asked Hornby why the thing is there and for some helpful guidance on opening up the coaches, so far they have clarified why the capacitor is there …, I have spoken with the development team on this, they have informed me that due to the tilting although not ideal they no other choice on the fitting of the capacitor.… we shall see
  13. Have you tried downloading hermes app and checking , i found a bit more info there for mine
  14. There is an exploded diagram of the dvt in hss 456 on the Hornby website ( look at documents associated with the sets or ndm)
  15. I see the NDM comes with the standard panto. (Oh no it doesn’t)….. (Oh yes it does). And you’ll be surprised to learn “an alternative pantograph is not included with the APT, the part number for the High Speed pantograph is X7769, we are currently out of stock of this part and awaiting delivery from our supplier “ hope the supplier focuses on supplying the 7 car set first!
  16. In fairness to Hornby if you look closely at the pics of the tu set on the website the capacitor is clearly visible
  17. Actually I think sloppy is being kind, I guess we’ll all be taking a look at tweaking when ours arrive
  18. Well I think they are a little shorter than the originals but I suspect something could be done. There are spares in the pack but they all look like the same half of a pair. The ndm runs great though with couplers off! Rolling january
  19. Hey Hey my ndm arrived today! Looks good anyone know if the alternate panto will be available, comes with one but intstructions talk about early and late versions, i did’nt recall seeing anything in the sales blurb about that Hornby NDM Instructions.pdf
  20. Just had the next coach pack notified as available. I checked with Hornby who confirmed the main set is still showing as only available January as far as testing is concerned I expect to figure a way to do this similar to how I have tested the 80’s NDM’s ….. with the help of a strategic elastic band support for the coupler as far as paint match is concerned I’d have to check how well matched the BR versions were, I suspect some matched better than others
  21. Hey yes, mine too, although i got an email to say there was a payment issue, probably because it was so long ago, anyway you only get a week to update it so check your emails if you have an order in. also does anyone know if the couplers are the same as the old 80’s version? Otherwise the ndm wont be running till the full set arrives :-(
  22. Well i just rechecked and like Royaloak i get the £89 etc price set. I suspect that its all about tax and where the website thinks you are. Perhaps John is seeing a price without uk vat (20%) but with austrailian sales tax? interestingly i am at present cruising off the NZ coast, but using a maritime link, so my ipad probably rembers where i usually access the site from.
  23. Hey john, useful post, thanks. I just checked Hornby website and the rrp still seems in line with your original list ( eg £89 for two coach set etc) i see some resellers are offering discounts, but cpuld not see any lower direct Hornby pricing, or working discount vouchers ( today or when i ordered mine!) have i missed something?
  24. Well hopefully a low res of one side of the pullout is attached, the other side is various articles. The whole thing is 5.7mb.
