  1. Evening, fairly new to DCC so still finding my way around.

Bought an 8 pin gaugemaster ruby to fit to my Hornby 08 today. It worked fine, but I could not get the chip seated in a way to put the body on properly. Alas the wires are not long enough to reach to the nose end.

Not wishing to faff about and take it back, I found my Heljan 33 also needed an 8 pin so popped it in there. However, despite my best efforts, whilst it fitted fine, the loco didn't work. Conscious the the 33 doesn't have clear marking which way the chip goes round, I swapped it round but still no luck. Popped the chip back in the 08 and it's now not working in that either.

Is it possible I've blown the chip? And if so how? This could turn in to an even more costly hobby that I thought at this rate..

I have tested other DCC locos on the same track and they work fine.

  2. Those pictures bring back memories of visiting the area as a kid. You could get almost anywhere without hassle back in those days; as long as you were discreet and polite if challenged.

I've been toying with a similar idea, but haven't got anywhere other than dreaming about it. I seem to remember this area was featured in a magazine in the last couple of years too - it's what got me thinking about it before - with slightly revised track layout. Personally I'd prefer to build my own track - if could - to capture the odd turnouts and check rails. I also like the large buildings close to the track; it really gives a hemmed in look.

  3. Good evening,

I'm wondering if anyone can offer any advice on sourcing a replacement for the cable that plugs in to the 'track out' of the power box that works with a multimaus.

The 2 pronged connector has.... Erm..  come apart.

I can't find anything on their website and searching online is proving fruitless, but I suspect that as I don't know what it's called it's not helping.

I'm sure I could even make one if I just knew where to source the prong connectors from.

    TIA.

  4. A change in domestic circumstances should have meant more time for modelling, but as usual there have been other demands that have had a greater priority.

However, I did manage to start the water side of things after watching some very informative You Tube videos.

I wasn't happy with the paint colouration of the first attempts, but the general water like finish that using PVA gave was pretty good. When I get some more time, I'm looking at over painting the PVA with acrylics to improve the colour blending as at the moment it's a bit pants. I also would like to put some wooden fender posts in place too to break up the concrete facing. P.S still not happy with the crate colours..

  5. Evening experienced people of DCC,

I have a 2nd hand Hornby 08 which I want to chip, but I can't work out what sort I need. Ideally I'd like to fit a TTS module, but they appear to be like hen's teeth so will make do with just getting it running without sound.

Any idea which if I need a 6 or 8 pin decoder?

    Cheers

Hi Multigauge, the main buildings of ewer street have been saved as they were not fixed, the only one that had to be destroyed was the grand vittesse canopies and platforms.

The Thorburn and Baines low relief building is 4ft 6" long, whilst the Metal Box building is 3ft long.sundry other bits have been saved as well.

What am I to do with them I have know idea, any suggestions welcome. All the best Adrian.

Ps Westerham and Brasted stations escaped unharmed and are alive and well as you will see in future posts.

Glad to hear the key bits have been saved. I agree with you though, it's a bit of a dilemma what to do next with them. A local museum may appreciate them; local history and all that. I think you may have emulated reality with the metal box building as I think they have just it pulled down - certainly a building on that side has gone - I must check in detail next week.

    As for Westerham, phew! 😁

  7. It's a bitter sweet thing seeing the destruction. Working in the area for a long time and reading story I have been in awe of the way you had replicated the buildings; I hope some of the structures have been saved.  However, I'm sure whatever you go to do will be just as well done, and as interesting; I was captivated by the way you described the building/story of Westerham and this was an area I knew little about.
