  1. Handsome shot of the 26 arriving at Dingwall, John. Great pic of the south box interior here with a tantalising glimpse of the view across the goods yard. The headshunt and siding are still there but the goods shed and all around have been replaced by housing. However, at least the railway thrives....
  2. Warley tickets bought. Summat to look forward to.

    1. Leicester Thumper

      Leicester Thumper

how much are they this year?

  3. Another vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl9JiI6zh58 Plenty 47's as was the norm around 85-86 but managed to include a couple of 37's and the sad day when 27's 001 and 046 ran the SRPS Farewell trip. A wee taster Hope you enjoy. Bruce
  4. Re Dundee Tay Bridge As ever Railscot turns up some gems! Pic of box diagram in my gallery here. Note that the carriage sidings behind the box have been disconnected according to the diagram. Prior to the Edinburgh services moving to loco hauled the Dundee-GQS services were loco hauled with similar consists to those used on the Edinburgh stoppers. Here 27017 arrives and the stock is shunted by 08 736 The 08 seems to have disappeared around 1984/5 and been replaced by the up loco when the Edinburgh services changed from dmu's. Back to Waverley, the 08's that I have picced there (a couple are in my gallery) include 08430/515/711/7/8/20. (All 1980-1) No doubt plenty more. Bruce PS working on vids for Perthshire and Kyle line PPS Dave, got a wee drop more on Waverley - will knock something together - eventually!
  5. Thats a good pic of the 26 on the ballast Peter. FYI the platforms at Waverley (west end) were fairly settled in terms of services. Using the platform numbers as per here(although the west end was largely unaffected by the 2006 renumbering)the general arrangement was (early-mid 80's): Plats 10&11 - Carstairs portions/through GQS HST and Aberd HST Plats 12&13 - Dunblane/Glas Cent/GQS slow services Plat 14 - GQS fasts Plats 15/16 - Dunblane/Inversnecky/Aberdeen Plat 17 - Dundee - the mid road was used to stable the down loco Plat 18 - Fife local (Dunfermline/Cowdenbeath) Plat 19 - Aberdeen inter regional/HST Seeing as this is Scotland and not Switzerland, this arrangement was subject to change! I dare say that i've missed some out (did Bathgate use the excursions???) The 47/7 on the vid leaving with the mk1's and mk2's was on a Dundee service - it was fairly unusual for HA to use its 47/7's on these duties but by no means unknown. Bruce
  6. Dave, No 9 really looks the part. FYI - I have linked a Youtube vid of Waverley in 1986 on the Scottish Region in the 80's thread - some shots of that elusive north wall!!! Keep up the good work!! Bruce
  7. On a roll... Waverley in the 80's. An avi file straight from APP via AOL. Quality seems better - but it only goes to emphasise my squint setups. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtmUzB5NCEk Will now have to think of some more. Bruce
  8. Some great pics there, Tom - the Mexican Bean looks almost spectacular at Eastfield (spectacular and Eastfield in the same sentence!!!!????) I cant be the only one who would like to see some of the bus pics too !!?? (Tin hat on time ) On the subject on dmu's, after much faffing about I have finally managed to upload a short video to Youtube showing classes 101/4/5/7/20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrIXx6a7MVs Taken on an early Video8 camcorder the picture aint the greatest quality . Got a few more lined up but would appreciate your comments. Currently I use Premiere Pro V7 to edit and produce an avi which is then converted by Windows Movie Maker prior to uploading. I had great problems uploading via IE but, as much out of desperation, tried AOL and hey presto. Why ? dunno... I will maybe try a PPv7 avi file via AOL next time to see if the quality improves but your feedback would be welcome. A still taken at the same time. Thanks, Bruce
  9. This one was nagging at me (sad, I know) - 47 431 leads the 12.00 Aberdeen to Edinburgh past St Fort. October 1985. A non-push pull. Admittedly the only one but at least it proves a point. The push pull rakes also saw service through Fife on Ed-Ab's both towed by 47/7's and 47/4's. BTW, a fantastic layout really capturing the atmosphere of the last days of 'interesting' Scotrail. Bruce
  10. Many thanks for your kind comments. Glad the pics are of interest.

    Bruce

  11. 26028 outside Thornton shed Two yellow lights in the gloom. 55002 at Waverley 61994 on the Kyle line Bruce
  12. Just back from holiday in SNCF land, had a quick squint but sorry Dave those damn trains kept getting in the way of the gubbins along the north wall!! The best of pretty poor effort below.. 43060 leads the morning Aberdeen to KX HST into Waverley. April 1984. 47712 LDS arrives with the 10 o'clock from GQS. June 81 47430 wait to leave with Dundee service as stock for an Inverness train is backed in Some other Waverley stuff Detail at the east end!! - 47402 waits to leave with ecs for Craigentinny. The last days of the goods yard. In the mid 80's Scr was 'donated' some truly awful junk which clattered around the Central belt masquarading as a public transport service. Hats off to those who kept them running. Class 104 M53525 leads a ragtag collection on a Dunblane service. The old dear in the second window seems to be thinking "that'll be dismal" - she wasn't wrong.. Bruce
  13. Ahhh, but Dave is obviously up at the crack of dawn to catch the sun in the east!!! At the time of the pics I was but a student and 'am' was a thing that happened at the end of the day Dave, I've few more - let me know if there are any particular angles/services you are interested in. Bruce
  14. Off to the land of the SNCF soon...

  15. More from Waverley. My one and only 35mm shot of the 27's on the E&G destruction derby. Taken through the a gap in the filthy windows on the station ramp 27109 waits to trail an evening service back to GQS, but. December 1979. 08430 shunts a parcels rake at the east end. Note the clean ex SR PMV sandwiched between the more usual livery variants. Note that the roof is blue (the clean one obviously) A quick dicht with a sponge over the first two windows then a blether. The 11.03 to Cowdenbeath can wait. April 1984 26008 heads for Carstairs with a single BG. The Edinburgh contribution to the Up Postal. June 1981 Bruce
  16. Some more bits and bobs.... Firstly, a couple of shots at the now closed Errol station mid-way between Dundee and Perth. By the mid 80's the train service consisted of the occassional Perth-Dundee/Arbroath service - when it could be so inclined to stop. The low platforms were a legacy of the pre-CR heritage. 47424 approaches with the 11.25 Glasgow QS to Aberdeen express. Both shots from August 1982. *** Immediately north of Markinch, served by a facing point off the ECML was a couple of sidings serving the Markinch & District Cooperative Society. Here domestic coal was unloaded in a rather ramshackle shed - a marked contrast to the grand facade on the High Street. A nice modellers cameo - 06003 runs back to the station with a single MCV in August 1980. *** 27010 passes Craiglockhart Junction on the Edinburgh Sub with a very steam era mixed freight. April 1982 *** In strong January light, a 107 leaves Glasgow Central bound for Edinburgh. 1981 Bruce
  17. Thanks. I'm afraid this is as close as I dared!!!! Don't remember seeing a shunter in fact, but like you would be interested in seeing any pics. Bruce
  18. John, Some more.... Firstly, the afternoon Aberdeen to Immingham SLK. From my observation/memory this consisted of the following traffic flows: Lime/timber (OTA)/empty petroleum/??? (VDA)/household coal empties (HEA) - usually marshalled in that order. The consist for the following shot taken at Wormit in May 1986 was: 47239 + 26042 + 4 x bogie lime + 5 x 4w open (POA?)+ 19 x HEA (red + baux) + 4 x TEA (1x grey 3 black) + 9 x HEA - 41 vehicles in all. (I've got it on video ) 47/3's were pretty common too (for a while anyway) - here 47 375 passes Cupar - note cartics which werent so common Finally a shot of 47 098 at Leuchars The cements 40159 approaches the site of Lochmuir box in July 1980 (19 x PCA) Elgin/Burghead working (16 x grain + 12ish x MCV) Local stuff 20225 approaches Thornton with the Auchmuty return empties trip and 27026 on the Westfield branch with a rake of 21 tonners bound for Leven PS Unfortunately, I'm too tender of years to have recorded the triple 20's on the Seafield HAA's, the Aberdeen pipes or the Kirkcaldy harbour branch HTH Bruce
  19. Brings back the memories John!! I'm sure I've got an old 8mm video of two 37's crossing - one on freight and one on passenger just like your pic. One (or rather 4) for the class 47 detectives- In all of the following I missed the loco number (not an uncommon occurence ) 6D22 17.55 Thornton to Mossend ABS near Dalmeny in May 1986 A class 47 passes Seafield pit with a Dundee to Edinburgh service. One of the paps of Fife in the background (well if WJVA can get away with it....) 10th May 1986 http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/mmartin/fifepits/starter/east/pits/s/pit-6.htm gives more info on the pit An unidentified 47 leaves Ladybank with the 09.25 Edinburgh to Inverness. January 1984 The Craiginches to Immingham SLK nears Lochmuir summit. Summer 1988 A bit of fun but any pointers gratefully received!! Bruce
  20. Brian, Just before you start on that 06 cab I've found the following shot of the interior of 06 003: Small point maybe, but the desk appears to be finished in black as opposed to grey. It also seems to be slightly smaller - could be related to the construction batch? Bruce
  21. Mr EM1 Firstly, great pics. The Quail Map Coy 'British Rail Track Diagrams' #1 Scotrail of 1987 shows Ardlui having a simple passing loop with island platform and a simple fan of 3 CCE sidings on the eastern side. A view looking north from an SRPS excursion showing southern approach. Taking the token, (the stock in the sidings looks like the Ft Bill alumina hoppers but why stabled at Ardlui?) View of station looking north HTH Bruce
  22. Andrew, This may strike a chord 24006 (also April 1980 - the 26th) but still at Eastfield shed doing a fair impersonation of a bulled up GD loco (only kidding - Ok I'm not...) A more typical ED resident with the towering des-res behind Walking to the depot in those times was an event in itself.... In June 1981 St Rollox held a well attended Open day - some memories Bruce
  23. Brian, As ever, inspiring work. The class 06 looks lovely - I've a couple of 4mm ones but despite having had for considerably longer still in flat pack form - I'm guessing from the build time and the end result that the 7mm was a joy to build. Re the 27/2 - I was hoping to be able to help with the overhead shots but these are the closest I've got - 27 204 recently demobbed from the Ed-Glas PP torture it was put through. HTH Bruce
  24. Hi, The GNSRA have a series of drawings - buildings, coaches, locos etc available for members to purchase. Knockando station building is amongst them - beautifully drawn by Keith Fenwick. Some pics of the station when in use as a reception centre by the Tamdhu distillery. Well worth joining the association for the newsletter and access to the archives but mainly to relive the great days of this fascinating railway. HTH Bruce
