  1. As promised a few construction photos. Print off the body on plain paper and glue to thin card. Cerial packet should be ok. Cut out and score along the fold lines, form the lower sides around a round pencil or other former, then fold up, All joints glued with contact adhesive. Roll roof and glue in place. Paper ends cut out and glued in place then painted black. Roof painted grey. Sides cut out and attached and posed on chassis. Some tidying up still to do! Enjoy. Happy to see any photos of completed models if anyone can be bothered to give them a try.

  3. I don't remember the Highfield GWR coach. A quick search of past auctions on ebay brought to light far more in the range than I originally remembered especially with regard to wagons.   4. LNER(ish) version. Where 550u is shown it implies the print needs to be stuck to 550micron card. LNER4WheelCoach.pdf
  5. Remember those Highfield coach kits from years ago that featured a card based body with coloured overlays? I though it might be fun to attempt something similar to produce 4 wheelers to fit on the Peco 15' WB Steel Wagon Chassis Kit (NR-122). Now if you are a finescale modeller after highly accurate models jump topic quickly. These are based on no actual prototype or dimensions. My first attempt is in the GWR style with two liveries. Please bear in mind that the GWR is not my area of expertese and I suspect there are lots wrong. I have left the coach end plain at present as I have no idea what colour they should be. Artwork has been produced in Inkscape and I would be happy to share it so further variations can be attempted if anyone is interested. I have spaced out a 5 compartment as a third but am not certain whether it is too cramped. I really should be doing something more productive than playing with this ;-) GWR4WheelCoach.pdf
  6. I picked up the first issue with Mallard for £2.99 a couple of weeks ago, then posted images on LNER Info. Unfortunately no one else could find a copy. It will be interesting to hear what coverage it is now getting. Like you, mine came from Sainsbury as well, however WHSmiths seem to be ignoring it. It is a shame as the models are quite good for the price.
  7. I can spot a Kirk Gresley from a long distance by the curve of the domed roof. The real thing is a much better shape. If you can restore this with Milliput you should then be in a position to replace the undersized corridor connection. If you can separate the roof then check the roof height against the side height. The roof is too high for the sides. Reduce the roof height at cornice level, remove moulding draft from the sides then add a thin trip of plasticard to the sides to increase their height. Removing the moulding draft from the window apertures also improves their appearance. You can also replace the roof with an MJT one.
  8. You might like to practice on a piece of painted plasticard to see how you get on.
  9. The hinged type I did not get on with. The non hinged should be fine, but you may have to dress the tips as per my earlier post. I have a collection of expensive, cheap, and secondhand all of which gave good results after dressing the tips. This major improvement for me was recognising what position to hold the pen in and how thick the paint should be. I had always assumed the paint had to be like ink in consistency and never got good result. Thickening the paint based on Coachmann's comments helped beyond belief. Regarding cleaning the non hinged type I have always run a sheet of paper through the tips to clean without having to reset the gap. There is usually enough spring in the blades to allow this.

  11. The models arrived direct from Hornby yesterday so may not be in the shops yet, although I would suggest they are imminent. Of the four types of vehicle they are easily the most interesting.

  14. You are right. They look too clean and should be weathered. I just don't have the heart to do it yet.
  15. Interesting idea, so I have attempted just that. Of course just overlaying the drawing you would not see the lines so I have turned them red to make them stand out more. I have not resized any of the images but have shuffled the overlays up or down to give best fit. I will let you draw your own conclusions from these.
  16. The photo in question claims to have been taken in Peterborough. If what you say is true regarding not all vehicles getting their SC prefix then we really have a minefield to catch out the unwary.
  17. Not certain I understand your reference to "full range". There are 4 suburbans due, 2 of which we have already seen. Still to come are the CL and 4 comp brake third. The only other additions I am aware of are the corridor full brake and the buffet car in blue/grey livery.
  18. I have FINALLY seen these in the flesh, so to speak, and could not resist posting the following detailed images. I hope they speak for themselves. Roll on the teak versions ;-)
  19. There is a photo of 81025 on page 86 of Harris' LNER Standard Gresley Coaches taken in 1955 still showing the E81025E version of the number.
  20. Not according to the information sheets produced by the LNERSG and available on lner.info.
