  1. Both units have been de-meshed for towing in this formation, with either a class 33 or 73 as motive power en-route to a breakers yard....... maybe a class 74 one day!
  2. Back in the day, I remember seeing rows of 2-HAL units at Mitcheldever awaiting scrap, so with a well known Liverpool box shifter knocking these out at a bargain price seemed too good to miss.
  3. We were just saying the other day that nothing much had happened on here lately, so I've got a few snaps taken at the steelworks to share with you. http://www.emgauge70s.co.uk/shenston_steelworks01.jpg http://www.emgauge70s.co.uk/shenston_steelworks05.jpg http://www.emgauge70s.co.uk/shenston_steelworks15.jpg http://www.emgauge70s.co.uk/shenston_tranship01.jpg And a few early snaps taken during construction. http://www.emgauge70s.co.uk/shenston_view13.jpg http://www.emgauge70s.co.uk/shenston_view14.jpg http://www.emgauge70s.co.uk/shenston_view16.jpg
  4. Oh dear, or should that be "pass the tissues please"? Phil - always lovely to see the latest on Abbotswood Jcn ....... and not wishing to hijack your thread, at least Wenterprising Preston has his own precious items to drool over now...... hopefully we'll see something constructive from him before not too long, on his own page.
  5. The oldest coach in the fleet - A Mainline RB cat number 37113, and still in service alongside Bachmann mark 1 coaches. The very basic of customisation took place many years ago, and this particular topic has been spurred on by the mention of the Palitoy RB in Phil Bullock's Abbotswood Jcn thread.
  6. Thank you for the kind comments and nice to know the layout conjures up memories of London - an amalgam of scenes inspired by the Great Northern line out of Kings Cross, and my trainspotting days of the early 1970s. The next booked outing for Hornsey Broadway is Railex in May 2018 at Aylesbury.
  7. Always inspirational seeing the things that crop up on this, Shenston Road, and other similar threads - keep up the good work guys Also very noticeable as to what features some of you notice, and what others don't always see...... beauty (or nostalgia) is in the eyes of the beholder, and the missing middle wickets should maybe take priority depending on your viewpoint. Just an observation from this old geezer. Still waiting to see some Deltics on this thread
  8. Here's some footage of the layout taken at Shipley in September 2015 by 54A https://www.youtube.com/embed/gpmvXwl9R2E
  9. Just noticed this thread hadn't had any recent pictures of progress so far
  10. Guilty as charged Nice pics though Paul, all the better for some slight enhancements. That's not cheating is it?
  11. Hi Paul, There's no denying the Bachmann class 108 is a lovely model, and I'm sure you can't wait to get the wheels spread to something more realistic! The biggest bugbear of mine is the orangey colour of the yellow front ends, and it's more noticeable when placed next to other locos / units, even though there were many shades of yellow to be seen on the real railways. Weathering and exposure to sunlight also makes a difference....... so ........ In an attempt to get rid of the horrible vertical moulding lines on the front end (by easily scraping with a knife blade), it will improve the looks of the unit(s) and a quick wash of proper yellow, to match the already excellent work you've put into this project so far.
  12. Whip those panto's off, and put a Ballymoss plate on the side.... who would ever know when painted blue with a yellow nose!
  13. .... and you've been making do for too long Paul. Where's the 12 car Cartic set you promised 5 years ago? I wonder if Lloyd would notice a Calder Valley set as being out of place
  14. Hello Lloyd I do appreciate you pointing out these anomalies...... and it all helps of course. Knocking up these big trainsets takes a big chunk of time, and I am happy to use existing stock from other layouts to make up the numbers. The period thing for me, can swing a couple of years one way or the other depending on the mood, and there's always an excuse for running something different from time to time. It floats my boat....... and just goes to show how diverse our interests are when it comes to running stock that doesn't always fit the bill, and making do with what we've got.
  15. That'll be the West Yorkshire influence
  16. Thank you for the comments, always appreciated. There's some You Tube footage here showing the layout on 'away test' at Shipley in September 2015. Hopefully a bit more work will have been done before its next outing to Railex in 2018. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpmvXwl9R2E&feature=player_embedded Cheers, Kier
  17. Should have left vacation it as it was......
  18. That Chris Hewitt bloke is an ideal partner for your layout project..... all looking very nice and will no doubt look even better with a coat of light grey.
  19. Some more snaps of Greg's Gulf tanks captured at Hornsey Broadway
  20. Sixty seven pages of part 1A (00) and part 1B (EM) just shows how popular and inspirational your work is, so no worries about feeling the way you do - we all lose our mojo from time to time, and mostly come bouncing back with fresh ideas. Perhaps maybe concentrate on rolling stock, or buildings for a new project, so that by the time you have accumulated enough scenic bits and pieces, you can then make a decision as to what direction suits you, without committing to building baseboards and losing enthusiasm. Looking forward to whatever appears here.
  21. I wouldn't like to mislead anyone, and don't think even the best weathering would disguise Dapol's choice of colour...... although I'd be happy to be corrected. The body was resprayed with a Howes BR blue rattle can last week, and featured a few pages back. Sorry for the lack of clarification, the shades just referred to the finishing and weathering using Humbrol enamels.
