  1. Ah interesting, do you know the names of any industrial ones that are still operating?
  2. Thanks I’ll have a look in to this, I would never have thought of a clay pipe factory having their own line
  3. Thanks for this, I do indeed enjoy making my own stock and it’s usually much more cost effective that RTR
  4. Thanks, yeah I have considered this one, its part of my research list 🤣
  5. Thanks, I was thinking something modern industrial like the Brickworks at Cherry Orchard Lane, I believe they operated their 2ft gauge line until 1995
  6. Thanks again for all the replies, it’s certainly given me food for thought. I have always loved narrow gauge and model in 009 already, but when I saw 09 I was intrigued, I am umming and arring over what to do either a more modern (early 90s) 009 or something in 09. I will definitely look up the resources that have been shared and even if this time I stick with 009, I know the 09 is an option for me with RTR items. Thats another fine mess I’ve got my bank balance in to! Cheers Tim
  7. Thanks for the really comprehensive response, in addition, I have found this https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_Hutton_Light_Railway and it turns out this light railway did serve a brickworks and before that there was a 15” gauge railway! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sand_Hutton_Miniature_Railway hopefully the links work but if not its the Sand Hutton Light Railway Thanks for all the responses! Tim
  8. Thanks I’ll have a look, I think if I can get away with making an 18” gauge railway out of 09 body and kato chassis I’ll try that
  9. Ah ok thanks, so in effect if I use the Kato chassis with an 09 body I can call it 18” or 15” in the same way 009 can be 2ft or 2ft 6? Or as you say standard gauge in 00 instead of P4? Thanks again really helpful Tim
  10. Thanks thats really useful, do you know if there is anything you have to do to make it 18” rather than 15”? for context I am looking at using a kato 110 chassis on n gauge track with a body from evilbay Thanks Tim
  11. Hi hopefully this is in the right area of the forum, I am interested in knowing if 15” gauge railways (often termed estate railways) would be capable of being used for a more industrial purpose than rides around a large estate (nothing wrong with that but not my cup of tea at present). I was going to model a 2ft gauge brickworks (Cherry Orchard Lane inspired) and wondered if a 15” gauge railway would have been capable of doing the same work? 09 seems to be a more accessible scale to me than 014 so any information or prototypes of 15” gauge industrial lines would be greatly appreciated Thanks Tim
  12. Yeah that sounds good thank you, I will doubtless get at least one more 48DS, because I don’t have an open cab version yet, the Army ones seem scarce now (like the Ruston lined green) so it’ll likely be a dairy one
  13. I actually had that book and it got lost in a move so I’ll get it again
  14. Thanks again for the info, I forgot to ask, would those block buffers be metal or wood do you know? And are there any books on the 48ds you would recommend? Thanks Tim
  15. That is excellent information thank you, as it happens Port Clarence is not far from me and the sort of thing I may model in the future. I have a particular soft spot for the loco in the Ruston livery and have just snagged a 2nd hand one for £65.00 so I have some scope to modify my original one and have one ‘as standard’ many thanks Tim
  16. This is really interesting stuff I have one of the Hornby ones but I got it out of long term storage yesterday and found its been damaged and has lost a front buffer Sadly they don’t seem to be offered as spares and I have no idea about any ‘matching’ ones from other suppliers - so noticing that some people specified different buffers for their 48ds locos in real life, I am considering swapping them all out for a new set (unless anyone can recommend a replacement for the one standard one I am missing) I am planning a small factory shunting layout for a biscuit factory, so I am wondering would that type of work warrant a different shaped buffer and if so what kind? and is there a benefit of round vs oval etc any info would be greatly appreciated my model is the lined green Ruston livery which I believe is discontinued so I can’t get a replacement body either many thanks in advance Tim
  17. This is my water tower, ignore the yellow dust particles! Not sure what they are lol Still a bit of weathering to do and I’ll add some foliage near the bases
  18. Apologies if this has been asked before but do you do any chassis/motors for n gauge?
  19. Great thanks very much, are there any other more readily available chassis for 009 projects you could recommend?
  20. Hi all hope you’re well I am currently building a few 009 locos with 2 already near completion however I’m wondering what chassis everyone uses? a lot of the kits I see are for very old chassis you can’t get anymore I’ve seen chassis on plaza Japan (I think its called) but I don’t know if any of these are a good swap put for say an Arnold 0-4-0 or 0-6-0, so either people are recycling their old chassis or I’m missing a trick! I did see a nice kit from small run batch that had everything to make a chassis with the motor etc but its out of stock and I have no idea when it’ll be back. So what does everyone else do about chassis? and I guess a sub question is can you still get the Brian Madge cabless quarry hunslet kit anymore? many thanks for your help
