  1. I have been working on my bedroom shunting layout for quite some time now and I have recently re-installed the bridge after modifying it to work with the changed track-plan. It still needs a lot of work, i.e. a wall along the edge of the bridge, but it has turned out the way I wanted it to. However, I'm stuck on how to depict it. One cheap solution is to cover the whole thing in brick paper but I want the layout to have that realistic feel. I'm thinking of having a girder bridge in between brick walls but I'm not sure on how to model it. I've posted some pics of my bridge below to give you an idea with what I'm working with. Feel free to post any pics of your bridges on your layouts: this is what I made this topic for. Also, any help with my bridge would be greatly appreciated.

  2. A photo taken from the overbridge of my work in progress layout. I know it doesn't look realistic at the moment but it will do once it is finished. I've got some ballast on the way and I'm busy looking up some pictures of tarmac and bricks to copy and paste onto a word document to use on the layout.

  3. The town i live in, Bridlington, originally had a miniature railway. It was called The Spa Miniature Railway and was located by the boating pool, to the south of the Bridlington Spa and opened in 1951. On 31st January 1953, The gales and high tides, which brought so much havoc to the east coast of England, washed away much of the railway infrastructure but it soldiered on until 1967.

Today, no trace of it remains and the Lifeboat station is built on the spot where it was.

The locomotive was a 1937 built Bassett Lowke 4-4-0 Southern Railway outline model for 7.25” gauge. Amazingly, it is still operating in private ownership on the Wortley Forge Model Engineers Miniature Railway.

  4. Another seaside narrow gauge railway is the North Bay Railway in Scarborough. It has a gauge of 20 in (508 mm), and runs for approximately 7⁄8 mile (1.4 km) between Peasholm Park and Scalby Mills.

It was built in 1931 and officially opened at 2 p.m. on Saturday 23rd May 1931. During the Second World War, the railway was closed as it was in the Coastal Defence Area. The last train ran on 6 July 1940 and the railway remained closed until 1945.

They currently have five locomotives: three Hudswell Clarke steam outline 4-6-2DH: No.1931 Neptune (built 1931), No.1932 Triton (built 1932) and No.1933 Poseidon (built 1933). These resemble Gresley A1s 4-6-2s. the fourth is 4-6-4DH tank locomotive No.570 Robin Hood (another Hudswell Clarke loco, built 1932) The fifth locomotive arrived in 2016: 0-4-0ST Georgina. It is the first steam locomotive to run on the railway.

All five locomotives: Georgina and (right to left) Poseidon, Triton, Robin Hood, Neptune

  5. Hi Tubs.

Looks like I'm in a similar position to you are. I'm 18 and not only I'm also working on a budget but also a limited amount of space too. I'm in the process of constructing two OO gauge micro layouts using two cardboard slabs salvaged from a Ikea cupboard delivery. Because of the small budget, I've used items that have been pre-built and were used on my larger OO gauge layout which is now packed away.

I've put the links for both layouts above. Feel free to have a look. Good luck with the layout I'll be watching with great interest.

For the last few attempts, each time I open RMweb the  following appears and I have to go through the rigmarole of choosing settings or consenting.  This is on my iPad, I haven’t tried it on my PC yet.   Is this an issue at my end or is it something you are working on?

That pops up every time I log on. It does get slightly annoying.

Take the mechanicals out of crashed Teslas etc and fit them within locomotive tenders, consulting some Hornby and Lima designers from the 1970s-80s if necessary.  That should still leave space for a sound chip and speakers within the redundant coal space.

Will these have Synchronised smoke as well? :jester:
