Yes an original BR Blue HST re-release would be wonderful. The more I think the more I'm thinking/hoping/imagining this could be a release of several iconic trains from the ages.

For the D&E era an early AC electric, the original blue/yellow HST, the APT (from DJ Models CADs perhaps?), the IEP in new liveries and I can't help wonder if a 91 will also appear, albeit probably not a new tooling given the Cavalex model. A kind of 'trains through the ages' set of releases to celebrate several key events/anniversaries.

I believe Hornby could announce the class 91 but i believe they have been working on it before Cavalex announced they would produce a high detailed model and so everyone not seeing that they originally planed this before Cavalex will criticise Hornby.

For example for the ruston 48DS Hornby announced it in January 2019 but the measurements were taken in September.

This is how Hornby are having so little time between announcement and sale when compared to Bachmann who announce at the first idea.

23 new units, 13 bi-,mode and 10 EMU. Will they be the same product (eg Hitachi class 80x) or will they need tilt?

    I don't know but,

they shouldn't need to as they are due to work the more straighter parts of the WCML.

I think the way to look at it is, that its a big anniversary, so there will be a few specials.  I think it really depends how Hornby want to celebrate, as in new toolings and looking ahead, or looking back at its Heritage, or maybe even a bit of both.  Afterall, they have to satisfy shareholders and New Tools sell best!

The most iconic and best sellers have been the A3/A4 so would expect that to feature somehow, and possibly Mr Kohlers favourite - the 0-4-0?  The APT for modern modellers and seeing that Hornby used to do one, could be a possibility - just if so, I hope they have come up with a suitable pantograph option.  Re-introduction of the Rocket?  A celebratory HST pack?  Who knows perhaps there could even be a naming, in partnership with a TOC?

I think if they do limited editions, then 1000 is too much, and is more than a standard production run, if you look in the 2016 handbook where they state a lower number - I think it says 600-800 is typical.

Regarding modern items then a pair of 50's in GBRf would go well.  Class 87, then Original Intercity is perhaps the way to go?  Class 60 - GBRF would be a popular one.  A modern wagon, would really go towards challenging some of the newer market entrants.  At the end of the day, if you do the locos, why not develop the rolling stock range?

    Regards,

According to Mr Kohler the APT mould have destroyed :( ,

I would love a new tooling but probably won't happen anytime soon.

    I can still dream!

Also to go with a class 60 a cheaper, more readily available Drax biomass wagon would be great.

For HST pack they could model the LNER BR original coloured HST as will be used on the LNER HST farewell tour.

... which are the ports for the snifting valve.

I couldn't find a picture of the top of a real A4 so I had to take a quick snap on my phone but I assume it's there on the real thing as otherwise the snifting valve would be useless.

    Correct.

I’ve just seen the new arrivals email from Rails, and it shows the twin tendered Bittern R3771 as having no valances. When I pre orders it back in January it was definitely shown with valances. I’m very disappointed as I was planing a conversion to Dominion of New Zealand, which the real Bittern pretended to be for a while. Does anyone know when and why Hornby changed? Thinking I might send it back when it arrives.

Hornby produced a model of Dominion of New Zealand and eventually you may be able to pick up a spare twin tender you could find a cheap twin tender set with Flying Scotsman. the spray LNER garter blue and paint roof grey. Then simply add transfers.

  6. An new APT from Bachmann with same detail as seen on the midland Pullman would be gorgeous and a dream of mine.

Unfortunately for me this a dream and Bachmann will more than likely not do this in their current climate.

    I can still dream!

In any sensible industry the train would run but the TOC would be penalised for running a non compliant train, but as the railway have had 10 or more years to get things sorted out that wont happen.

Of course the real rogues here are the DaFT who should have started the ball rolling years ago on procurement and modification but they didnt, they left it until the last possible minute so millions/billions has had to be thrown at the problem to try and build/modify the trains in time, but of course it is 'the railway' who will get the blame including from the DaFT so they can be seen to be hard on the nasty TOCs who dragged their feet.

    EDit-

The funny thing is it is fine for a train to be in service with a defective toilet, or not have a toilet at all, but not okay if it has a working non compliant toilet (do I see a way around it ;))?

I was on a northern rail class 170 for 2 hours but there was no functioning toilet but the train still ran.
