yes I think an odd choice of unit , unless you model the West Midlands and Manchester I suppose !  The 3x3 bit is right but I’d have happily gone for a 313 or 303!   Good price though .

In fairness for anyone wanting to model recent/present day Manchester area they are in quite good hands.

    150 Northern - Bachmann

    156 Northern - Realtrack

    158 Northern - Bachmann

    323 Northern - Dapol

    802 TPE - Hornby

    68/mk5 TPE - Dapol/Accurascale

    390 Avanti - Hornby (2 Liveries)

    175 TfW - Revolution

    67/mk4 TfW - Hornby

    158 TfW - Bachmann

Main gaps IMO are TPE 185 (please somebody) and the new CAF units (195 & 331 Northern and 197 TfW)

    Destination is Edinburgh…

I think maybe the bodyside is a little light but the ends seem fine.

    Good news on the destination.

Bodysides look like the off white of the prototype set they did rather than the silver of TPE.

Still not convinced of the blue on the side. Pic from Flickr below.

On almost every pic of them they look like this where there isn't a vast difference in brightness around the cab windows where the graduation is on the middle triangular stripe. The graduated stripe looks right, it's the end and side that look like they need moving slightly towards cyan in hue.

    Beat me to it!

I let my membership lapse last time but it's still showing as an active order in my account. Wonder if they will honour it given the Price increase as well as it's increased from 149.99 to 189.99.

Thing is, I even renewed mine before if finished but for some reason it's showing up twice (one current, one expired) which I presume is causing the conflict.

    Screenshot_20231125_124007_Chrome.jpg.a44484400dfae23c3d57336b76315441.jpg

They used to have a renew option on the clubs, but wasn't available when I renewed (isn't now for me either) so I wonder if that is why it has screwed up. My current membership should actually be ending on the 22/10/24.

  4. So the CC model of 78022 has finally been officially announced, which is good news.

    https://uk.Hornby.com/products/k-and-wvr-preserved-standard-2mt-2-6-0-78022-era-11-club-exclusive-r3837

However, will the orders placed for it in 2021 be fulfilled?

Also, for some reason the Hornby website doesn't think I am am member (renewed in October, shows in memberships but also showes the expired one. If I wanted to order another it wouldn't let me at the moment) so hopefully that doesn't mean I miss out.

I have emailed Hornby to find out either way.

Just got to work out when the Centro one arrives and how much?

Rails have them listed at just under £300 for DCC ready. Which isn't bad at all for a 3 car unit I don't think.

I mean not really, I would argue, as someone who is definitely on the young end of the hobby, that steam is very popular, partly because of the preservation era scene, and I do think it more likely we will see more people modelling pre BR steam, but also increasingly the preservation era, plus with industrial steam being very popular, I do generally think steam has a long way to go.

I think the thing is, I don't think interest in steam is going away, but I don't see how the proportions would stay the same for the reasons stated by SulzerPeak

For example, if we were to fast forward 40 years then it would be 100 years since diesels were already on the scene and during the time that main line steam was being phased out. I presume at the moment, there's about a 50/50 interest level between pre and post phasing out of main line steam. I can't see that being the case in 40 years time when hardly anyone alive will remember seeing steam locos in service on a daily basis. It wont have gone away, in the same way as there's an interest in pre-grouping which is now 100 years ago, but a lot of people like modelling stuff they remember. Likewise this shift would be gradual and therefore it is logical to presume that this shift will happen as less and less people recall them in service.

I don't think the steam market is maintained by  people who are interested in preserved locos. I have 5 steam locos (4 as preserved, 1 Centenary Smokey Joe for nostalgia purposes) and 2 preserved ones on order, so 7 in total. I don't even know how many diesel/electric I have. I have more class 37s than I have steam locos. Likewise, preserved examples are in the minority on releases (because its not where the demand is)

I had to reduce the volume on my 37607, I admit I’d forgotten about what was said here, and emailed Accurascale directly following their advice dropped the volume and she hasn’t cut out since. So I doubt they’ve updated any models. Though I’m guessing that’s something they might do for the next batch if possible.

I maybe did it when I got the models without thinking about it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Fran has mentioned in previous posts that the capacitors need time to charge. I was wondering if having more stay alive fitted locos on the layout might increase the time it takes for them all to be charged and ready to go

In the last few months I have found that the stay alives present on my layout trip my Z21 out. I have to do several goes of on/trip out to get everything charged up. I do have 4 37s, 1 92 with stay alives, and then 18 mk5s and 2 Hornby Azumas with lights/caps in them. I think it was the addition of the first 2 37s that started this happening.

I am hoping for some FEA's especially if they decide to tool some nice Binliner boxes to go on top. In desperate need of some of those!

The binliner is one that is missing. I don't really associate it with intermodal but obviously it's on intermodal wagons.

My point was more that there's only so many wagons we need to put intermodal containers on. The containers are where most of the variety comes from rather than the wagons themselves, and there are wagons already available to feasibly represent most of the intermodal operations in the UK, even if recreating an exact train isn't possible. The gap of FKAs for example, IKAs are used to do the same thing I believe (although not as common as FKAs on DB stuff).

If I had to hedge my bets, i imagine a newly tooled item and the announcement of the Hattons FEA tooling being purchased.

This was hinted at during an email newsletter some time ago with the stobart 92 pulling some gbrf FEA-S wagons.

TBH, I hope not. I don't think the market needs more intermodal wagons at the moment. Other than the FKAs perhaps. I appreciate these wouldn't be a new tooling but would be an announcement nontheless that I'd not be excited about.

If anyone is going to be able to proceed a cost effect yet accurate multiple unit, then Accurascale is probably our best bet - especially if their Irish Multiple units are anything to go by.

Or Revolution if their 180 is anything to go by price wise. However I think I read something about them not doing it in OO as someone else was.

    However....

I expect a 185 would be far simpler to tool, cheaper and offer far more geographical interest than the Electrostars.

With the sound on - they take far more time to shuffle up and a stationary loco going through the sound shutdown procedure won't move and is likely to prove slightly irritating at times.

Is it a simple tick/condition change on the Loksound decoder to make it perform like the rest of my stock?

I have a Lokprogrammer, but haven't put the 37 on it yet.

That bit is, by ticking the disable sound start delay, however the start stuff still plays whilst the loco is moving. It just means the loco movement isn't dictated to by the sound file.

I aren't sure whether you can cut sound off immediately with ease. Would be an idea I'd be interested in as I could have itrain automatically do what you're on about doing. Entering a section activating sound and then when it leaves, deactivating.

I think these are a Bachmann thing, they are at Kernow too.

To re-emphasise, there are ALSO bundles created by Kernow on this link. However the first 9 packs are identical to the ones offered by Rails.
