Now that I have set the girder in place and stared at it for 24 hours I have realised I have made the walls a little too high, by about 20mm. What is 5 feet amongst friends! Fortunately none of the walls are fixed to the layout yet so they can be adjusted reasonably easily

I'm almost hearing the racket from the loco as you hit the incline and enter the tunnel! I wonder if you'll get a similar sound from the DCC speaker as it enters?
That's a thought. I plan to line the tunnel for 18 inches or so. It'll be interesting to see how that works sound wise. I suspect it might deaden the sound but we shall see.

Hi Matt,
It is Slaters 7mm dressed stone, it seems to look about right.

Some decent progress on day 8 of the build. At the point now where I can start thinking about the roof. In the past I have used SMS slate sheets which I think look good but are a bit of a faff to put onto a roof so I think I will cut the roof to size and test fit and then slate the individual roof sections on the work bench before final assembly. That way only the ridge slates will be a faff (I hope).
The building is Humbrol Sea Grey with a black wash sponged over it before white weathering powder was dusted on by brush and sponge. More weathering to do but I’ll call it a day for today. That is coming along nicely

This seems to be a convenient time to show you the complete new Qof S rake, recently completed by Tim. We decided that a ratio of 8 1928 cars to 2 1925 was about right, did our research, and this is what I now have, the full ten cars for the first time.
a couple of cut and shuts in there, including one car that still had matchboard sides in 1958, and the whole thing beautifully matched up, and weathered in the places where they should be. That really is Pullman opulence.
That is lovely.

Main thing is you are both recovering.
Onward and upward!

It looks great but the bill for the amount of sleeper grime and other weathered paints to distress to the level required will be significant!
Especially when you consider that what you see now is about a quarter of the amount of wall!

Bit more work on the Heather Ann today. Ive put the bracing on the cradle and added the winch and old tyre fenders. Attention will next turn to the masts, rigging and deck gear. I will admit I’m really not looking forward to the rigging. It’s up there in the same ‘fiddly’ bracket as the point rodding which is also untouched.
A good piece of work that. Well done,
Cheers

Thanks David, Yes trains running, that's the dangerous stage.
Absolutely. The stage at which working on the layout stops and running trains takes over. That is why i have not wired my track yet!
