Must say that given the delay and price-hikes, I'm glad I didn't preorder a  2MT to go with the Bachmann Ivatts I already have. And if I want another of that ilk, it'll be another Ivatt...

I expect I will end up buying one when it does eventually appear, depending on circumstances.

However I must admit at present the delays and probable price are making me view it more as a ‘nice to have’ model, rather than a definite purchase.

They certainly came out well, although looking again I noticed that they appear to show different times, sorry!

Yes they do, I did consider printing another sheet of clock faces to get two the same, but decided once the building is finished they will not be so visible.

I could always say one has stopped!

    That looks superb.

Hope you’ll be able to see some of that through the windows when it’s all installed.

How did you make the clocks, they’re excellent?

Hi, thanks for your kind comments.

I am hoping that I can leave some of the doors part open to give some view of the inside, and there will be led lighting.

The clocks are just a couple of small washers glued together, larger diameter on top, then a free downloadable clock face printed out and stuck on top. Finally, a rubber O ring of the appropriate size was stuck on top of that. Prior to gluing them all together the pieces were primed and coated with wood stain.

  4. Progress on the station building has been rather slow, whilst I I thought about, and made some interior fittings.

Two of the rooms have been partitioned to represent booking office staff area and ladies toilet in ladies waiting room.

I have added a booking office window, made a couple of clocks and added chimney breasts and posters.

Various bench seats and items on luggage have been completed to add in due course.

The building corners have been disguised by my normal method of applying strips of Redutex.

Next stage is to fit doors and windows, followed by fireplaces and the floor!

I've done the Terriers, easy peasy really.

I cannot do the 14xx or 57xx though.  I can't see how to get into the coupling pockets at all.  I can remove the bodywork but then the pockets are still hideen by more chassis 'stuff' (technical term, I am qualified to use it).  I even wasted my time asking Dapol of they had such useful things as service sheets that explained what goes where and which scresw hold it down.

If anyone knows which screws to remove to get at the couplings I'd really appreciate it.

    Cheers

    Anthony

I had the same issue with both those models. I think I resorted to pulling the sprung draw hook out as far as I could, then snipping it off. The remaining piece and spring disappear back into the hidden part of the loco, and are retained within!

Obviously I would never be able to refit a sprung draw hook, but I don’t believe I would ever wish to.

I've been toying with one of these - a bit more "typical" than Timber Track's Chalford.

Could I please ask if you could take a photo of the canopy ends - they don't look quite right to me on the website pics and I was thinking I might try and negotiate getting just the building.

    Thanks in advance!

Attached, although you’ve probably seen what you need from the other contributors?

    Hi Hal Nail

Certainly, although I'm away for a few days, but can do so later in the week if it will wait until then.

Actually the coupling used on Underground stock is known as a Ward coupling. Good idea though, a cosmetic coupling that clips into a NEM pocket. The NEM pocket can be quite conspicuous on some locomotives especially express steam locomotives.

Hadn’t heard that name (Ward) before, but just ‘googled’ it for more info.

Random one that ive just thought of - wheres the vanity panel that should hide the front NEM coupling?

when it was announced were they not going to have a removable piece with the NEM socket hiding behind?  Im not 100% though like, but it looks a little silly if not coupling the DM cars nose to nose, having the socket on show

Only had a quick look, but the real thing seems to have a not totally dissimilar box that the coupling bar protrudes through, albeit not quite the same appearance, but if anything more prominent than the NEM socket?

That sounds realistic and brings back memories of my youth in London.  Personally, however, I think I might quickly become bored or annoyed with it all the time and save it for visitors.

When I was young, I don't think I ever heard a tube train blow it's whistle.  Not until about 20 years ago when alighting at High Barnet to take the car back northwards was I able to ask the driver if tube trains were fitted with a whistle or horn, so he gave me a personal demonstration!

My recollection of tube trains whistling was generally to indicate a non stop ECS was coming through the station.

    Hi Graham,

The layout is progressing really well - I'm watching with interest and taking notes - I'm a little bit behind you!

Apologies if you've mentioned it already - in your last photo it looks like you have connections for DCC and DC?

    regards,

    James

Thanks James for your kind comments, although I’m no expert! Everything’s a learning curve for me really.

Yes, the layout is principally DCC with a NCE Powercab socket running off an SB5 booster fitted underneath.

However, I can disconnect that and plug in my DC controller to the phono sockets. Only used if I want to test a new loco before fitting the decoder, although I also have a short ‘stand alone’ test track.

There is also another pair of phono sockets on a separate circuit that provide 12v DC out that I can can test led building lights etc. before putting in their final place.

  12. I have spent some time on making up low relief buildings from downloadable sources to add to the back scene.
They are printed in 4mm scale as firstly I could not easily scale them up with my printer, and secondly I hoped it might give a suggestion of perspective.

These are just an interim option, as long term I aim to make some scratch built replacements, however that is some way off !
