  1. Peter Harvey, did you actually use the words"winging it" in anything associated with me.................... Remember I'm the one that had transit van window frames etched!!!!!....... With my level of OCD not likely! Go and have a word with yourself ;-) Spike
  2. Cheers for showing me he signals Steve....., Looking at the way you position the servos under the board, even if we have 3 servos it looks to only take up about 70mm deep At the point with the signals are we're looking at about 150mm of clearance so we should be good!!! I've added that little detail into the grand plan as a reminder to double check that the position of the signal servos and KD electro magnets don't foul up any of the lower fiddle yard!! Spike!!
  3. Just out of interest how much room do we need for the servo's?. The signals are all on the upper track work, but we need good clearance for traffic passing underneath on the lower fiddle yards Cheers spike And my photo files are too big to load up at the mo :-(
  4. On here twice in one week! Just a quick progress report!! Not done much in the shed this week, but have made a little progress on some of the building that are going to come into play later on in the project, but with a dodgy knee I didn't fancy going on my hands and knees to get under the layout, so I opted for staying in the warmth of the house!! As a put in my previous posting, I was looking at buildings with a "midland" theme, and after looking through a number of books from our club library to see if there was a prototype that would give me a suitable base idea to work from! In the "springfield" plan there is scope for a small station on the east end upper curve and after looking at a every station on the s&c I'd narrowed it down to pretty much two of the main locations along the line, the first was "Horton in ribblesdale", now just a straight forward two platform intermidate station with a " small " midland main station building on one side and a waiting room on the other side served with a simple " duck board" foot crossing at the south end. This was pretty much ticked all the boxes, as far as simpisty goes but I just wanted something with a bit more interest so I've oped to use "Dent" as my prototype ideas base. Both stations have a lot of similarity, but even though both locations have lost there point work, signal boxes and cattle docks the station at dent had a few more small details that i'm going to put onto model, with the main station building being on the outside of the curve, and the small side building still being in place at dent ( originally coal store & porters room on the left of the main structure) this will fit on the out side of the upper radius curve nicely and with the waiting room on the other side having a large retaining wall that as well as being high, wraps round the rear or the building creating a interesting feature, especially if I put some of the snow drift fences made from old sleepers in there! The bigger thing is probably the position of " the coal road" brick road bridge at the north end of the station that will on the model act as a really good scenic brake and the natural lay of the land falling down hill behind the main station building towards the village of dent some 5 miles south west that will also fit well on the model as there is only a single track section without much elevation at that point for the lower fiddle yards access so I can make an embankment without to much clearance problem. I've spoken to rob Harrison, who I consider to be a real master at "building weathering" detail and after seeing the work he's being doing on John holdens lime street project, really bringing another dimension to the already superb detail, he was the man to ask about the detail. he has already given lots of pointer to bring the stone work to life...... So I'm going to start practicing ! Thanks for following and ill get some pickys of the signal box soon ! Cheers spike
  5. It's not often I get on here! Quick up date, spent most of the weekend In-between family and domestic duties, laying the cork, I'm going for a blanket covering on the lower fiddle yards, then I don't need to work out the position of the points to the millimetre Got all the north and south yards fully covered and west end boards and the straight bits of both the "transition ramps" Then on the early hours of Monday morning dislocated my knee in bed, so after an unsuccessful trip to A&E I'm now waiting for the heads up on a date to go in for a operation to get me knee sorted, so work on the layout in the shed may slow down for abit So as I'm layed up in the house I've turned my attention to planning some of the buildings, and as we have a s&c/ midland feel to the architecture I've started work on the two buildings for the station ( very dent like) and the signal box also of midland feel but the one based at peak forest south ...... Picys to follow soon! Cheers for following our progress Spike
