  1. A bit more info on the broad gauge engine. It’s from the Great Western Railway of Canada, and is broad gauge. Designed by an apprentice of Brunel from what I can find, who also built the first loco with a steel boiler for the same company.
  2. Ours were completely terrified of everything including dogs. They used to keep our dog up at night for hours barking at them, but eventually the dog gave up after 27 hours of combat.
  3. We have some friends who own a large ranch north of Tulsa. They used to get Tarantulas and rattle snakes out there, but not in any great quantity. In the 9 years I’ve lived in this house I’ve seen one garden snake, and it wasn’t even alive! Since I live in weird neighborhood where everybody’s garden backs up together to form a bit of park/forest, we used to have foxes, which I’m guessing ate them. Unfortunately said foxes died of starvation about 4 years ago.
  4. Used to be a Keyser Beyer Goods, but I rebuilt it into a vaguely accurate LCDR small Scotchman, and then it wrecked itself, so now being rebuilt.
  5. Nielson Box Tank in Canada. And a questionable broad gauge engine?? It looks like a variation on the GWR Waverly class.
  6. Be glad you have news you know isn’t paying photoshoppers to doctor photos so that the networks preferred presidential candidate looks good.
  7. Goodnight all, from Greencountry. Douglas
  8. That most certainly is quite the caldera. I laughed when I rembered the “walkie talkie” buildings problems, Top Gear were most amused by it.
  9. Well the condenser has been fitted. And the engine has been painted and mounted to its own base. The boiler has been somewhat polished and mounted to the main base. Both bases I’ve been stained and varnished, making them look slightly ancient. The globe valve and flywheel have yet to arrive, but should be here soon. The fake propeller shaft has been ruled out on the grounds of cost, and size of baseboard. I did some test lagging of the main steam feed so I can cut the correct length of string, which will mask rather unsightly steel pipe that Wilesco uses.
  10. And here’s an octopus, also by Leyland. I’ve always wanted the Dinky Toys version but the prices are a bit steep.
  11. At least the windows In the door didn’t act like a magnifying glass. We just had another fairly sizable earthquake about 40 min ago, only around 30 seconds though.
  12. I have the same problem with my windows, direct sunlight from 5:00 am to about 4:00 pm. Not so bad in the winter, but in the heat of the Oklahoma summer the temperature can get up to 87 degrees in the afternoon. Moan finished.
  13. Paddington will always be immortal though, maybe not for the greatest reasons but still, fame forever.
  14. That’s the first time ive seen a photo of the Mexican double fairlies, I had heard of them though! That Hunslett is nice also.
  15. Here’s one, LNWR Dreadnought built by Beyer Peacock and bought by the PRR for testing near Pittsburgh.
  16. That’s what the Pennsylvania Railroad did when they bought one of the LNWR dreadnoughts. I must agree with you on red, as my favorite engine is the Kirtley goods. Edit: the PRR also had a De Glehn compound, scrapped after awhile same as the dreadnought. Might I also ask what the painting is of in your post? It would make a nice computer background.
  17. Strange that the midland isn’t portrayed as evil since it’s predominantly red?!
  18. But alas it’s called “Gods Wonderful Railway”, so I doubt Lucifer would have access, unless he was trying to show people what they were missing out on. From an ex gwr modeler who still likes his 1076 buffalos.
  19. There was a 4.6 two days ago (a big one in other words) at about 10:30 pm. But yes we feel them all the time, some are worse than others. A few years ago the was a 5.7 I think that went on for 3 minutes, very scary. Strangely before fracking began we had the lowest earthquake rate in the country, now we are second only to Alaska.
