  1. Thanks for all the replies. Since the coaches were brand new from a train set, combined with everything you have all said, I'm pretty sure that its not lead. While I know touching lead isn't inherently dangerous, I do get quite iffy with 'dangerous' things e.g. bleach. I dont know what metal it is but it's a black colour, if anyone knows what that is.
  2. so a few days ago i opened up some Hornby pullman coaches and i saw some weights inside. i didnt touch them, but i used my scissors to grab them and put them under my bed. i really need to know if Hornby use lead weights because right now im scared of going near any of my model railway stuff
  3. I prefer an oval. For my layout, I'm planning to have a few sidings and two loops, because I just really like two trains passing eachother. For me, you can still do shunting and stuff with an oval, but obviously you can just run trains.
  4. So the search for the missing axlebox is still ongoing. Sorry for the slow updates, I will make a post when i finally find it, if i do. As for now, it's been reverted back to an 0-4-0.
  5. just so people know, I'm 14

If you go to your profile (top right on this machine) there is a tab called 'About me' fill out a message and save it and it should be in your signature at the bottom of your posts. If I've got it wrong contact Andy Y (Mod) and I'm sure he'll help.

Or put a thread up in 'Forum help' saying... :help:....   and you're sure to get answers.

  6. So, bit of an update. Earlier, i finished gluing everything back on, however it had another fall from the shelf. i found the buffer that broke off, and one axlebox is still missing, I've looked for it but can't find it. I'll have another look tomorrow.
  7. i intend to use it as a stationary loco, and also a loco that can be coupled onto a train to make it look like a double header or stuff like that.
  8. I've included some pictures of the body, chassis and other bits, before i glue the buffers and back axle back on after its fall from the shelf. I plan to sand the front bufferbeam flat just so its easie to put detail on.
  9. sorry if i came off rude. It just really annoys me when people take out the fun of the hobby. A lot of the time i just see people bash other modellers for not being 100% realistic, which i don't think is reasonable, as the hobby is supposed to be fun and for most modellers, especially younger ones such as myself, its hard to get all the high end realistic locos and coaches, because we cant really afford to pay £100 for an 0-4-0. sorry about my little tangent.
  10. that is something i considered. though its intended to be a loco that has passed down through various owners, having a very long working life but I'll probably keep it red with the black buffer shanks, as it does look nice, and i can always do another 0-4-0 up like that.
  11. while yes the back end is a bit short, i think it looks quite nice as a little tank engine, though in the future i might try something like you've suggested
  12. so i found some pictures of what it used to look like, and i quite like the colour scheme, especially the bufferbeam. I'm wondering wether i should repaint the bufferbeam back into the wasp stripes, as I've got the yellow and black paint. if you think its a good idea please tell me.
  13. i mean in my opinion it doesn't matter what people run. if someone wants to run a Bachmann atlantic pulling a rake of Hornby 4 wheel coaches, who cares, after all, the hobby is about having fun
  14. I have included some pictures of what it looks like at the moment (however it recently fell off the shelf, which means I'll have to glue some things back on) The buffers are from a Hornby railroad 7 plank wagon, the coupling hook is from tornado, and the axleboxes and wheels are from a Hornby boxvan. I'll elaborate on what my plans for it are later.
  15. So in January, after not doing anything model train wise for about 3 years, I bought the Hornby Cornish Carrier set, which came with a little 0-4-0. Over the months i did many things to it, but recently i decided to make it an 0-4-2 or possibly a 2-4-2 as the cab sagged a bit, due to me cutting the end of the chassis off. The first image is from hattons of the 0-4-0 from the set. the second is what it looked like after the repaint, and the third is what it looked like before
  16. Just the standard Hornby ones most likely. but i might see what else i can get.
  17. That is the kind of look I was going for. I think the small buffers i got from a wagon really help it.
  18. Not sure if this is considered a pugbash, but I got this Hornby 0-4-0 (the gwr one) and I made it an open cab 0-4-2. I know the paint is rough, but i couldn't be bothered to scrape the old paint off, and it looks good enough for me. Sorry about the photos being on my bed, I don't have a layout yet.
