  1. Oh, I bought two just before I read this. Got them cheap so I'll see how they look. Though atm I don't have a great deal of choice unless I lash out £100 on the State Tool and Die one from abroad?
  2. I'd clocked that one, will probably be trying it.
  3. Nice collection! I think the torpedo wagon I found on Ebay was State Tool and Die but they wanted over £100 for it. I've now sourced 2 x Lima Torpedo wagons which is a result.
  4. Thanks pal.....can I asked how you found that?] OK scratch that....if I'd have known Lima made a model I'd have found it!!!!!
  5. Thank you for the pointer Michael, I'd not considered 3d printing sources.
  6. Hello, I'm relatively new to the forum and the hobby and am in the process of building my first OO layout which is steelworks based. I'm struggling to source torpedo and slag wagons. The only slag wagons I can find are from rtmodels so that's a possibility. The only torpedo wagons I can find are the Walthers HO ones, though Gaugemaster were very cagey about when/whether they may get some. There appear to be a couple of HO options from abroad on Ebay from abroad but they're not cheap and I don't know anything about the quality of those models so am a bit loathe to take a punt on them. I'm relying on internet searches which I know may not give me all the possible options.......I'd be very grateful if anyone could point me to any other sources or if you have any recommendations? Thanks JC
  7. .......oh my bank balance. I'm sorted on the 37, 56 and 60 front though And as Eric said, as luck would have it along come Dapol. There's a Railroad Yeoman 59 though seemingly not an ARC.
  8. On the 60 front I've just bought 60005 Transrail Skiddaw for this, as well as for duties pulling the iron ore PTAs.
  9. I'm building a layout based on South Wales steel and thought I'd nailed all the locos I'd need until I saw this same vid the other day. Might have to get a Yeoman 59 now
  10. OK love that framed railfreight sector print - you could sell those! And I'll have one! Layout coming on well!!
  11. I've just availed myself of a rake of Cavalex PGAs for my steelworks layout. Lovely. Need dirtying though. Although I'm trying to base mine on South Wales traffic I decided to loosen my definition to PGAs as these delivered limestone to at least Redcar.
  12. Hello, I'm in the process of building a steelworks layout and am treading into detail where I've never been before as a new train modeller so please go easy on me. I also apologise if this has come up recently - I've scoured the forum but not found anything. In terms of limestone deliveries to south Wales steelworks in the 70s/80s/90s, my understanding is that it was by CBA hoppers, which were converted HAAs. As far as I know there are no oo gauge CBA hoppers available but I have read that conversions from HAA have been done. Is that correct and are there any companies/people around now who might do such a conversion? I also understand that there were lime flows to Redcar in PGA hoppers and these are available oo gauge but only in Tarmac livery and I think I need plain/white. Any help or other possible suggestions/solutions appreciated, Many thanks JC
  13. That's great info thanks Jez. Keep up the great pics of your layout
  14. I've located some Walthers stuff in HO from Germany...on pre-order...v expensive but I think I'll get a couple of them if they actually come in. I think I can have a go at scratch building some of the kinds of buildings I'm looking at doing..........I do want a lot of depth to the layout which I think is going to test my abilities. What I can't see being feasible is a blast furnace and might just have to defer that to the backscene photo. I'm basing my thoughts around having coal/limestone/iron ore deliveries, some shunting of materials within the works and then steel coil and possibly slab out. How accurate are you trying to be with stock? Are they the Hornby HEA hoppers you've got for coal? I can't find out from the web what the actual hoppers that were/are used for coal, so I'm thinking of waiting for another batch of the Accurascale HUO hoppers to come in and get a rake of those - might not be exactly right but not far off and actually value for money. I've got some JSA coil wagons and the tippler wagons on order currently. Trying also to work out what wagons were used for limestone delivery. I'm not going to be ultra anal about stock but I want to do it fairly prototypically.
  15. Hi there, I'm new to the forum and am following this thread as I'm in the process of starting to model a steelworks. Yours looks good and the scratch buildings look great. I wondered if you looked at the Walthers building kits of steelworks? I'm trying to source some but suspect I'll end up scratch building....and I am a complete novice at that.
