  1. Hi, I model in 2mm finescale. I’ve been building some Mark 1 coaches using 2mm SA kits. I’ve got to the point of painting. Has anyone got any experiences of using Montana spray acrylic paint? We have a Montana shop just 1/2 a Mike from us which stocks the full range. Has anyone been able to match the shades for BR blue and grey? Thanks for any help.
  2. Tom, are these available to buy? The MK1 parts you’ve done look really good. The generic coach body looks really useful.
  3. It’s Association ones I think. The seller said they were etched on 5thou brass and were made from a design several years ago. Buying from Spain doesn’t seem worth it. I’ve found the association mk1 kits a delight to build. Thank you Gentlemen for your sage words. I’ve got some Bill Bedford sides to use in 2mm including a RK.
  4. Hi, Ive seen a seller on EBay who’s selling underframe etches for BR Mk1stock in 2mm scale. Has anyone had experience of these? The seller is michaelw3286
  5. Thanks Nigel, and they’re not badly priced either.
  6. Is there a source of 3D printed BR mark 1 coach roofs? I really like the roofs that come with the 2mm Scale Association Br Mk1 kits. I’ve got hold of a supply of Bill Bedford Mark 1 Coach sides which I’m going to start building up. Is 3D printing a worthwhile skill to learn? I’ve got no experience of it but have access to a 3D printer. Another question, what do the Mark 1 underframe kits consist of? Are they similar to the ones in the Mark one kits? Sorry for the volume of questions but I’m rather excited by it all.
  7. Hi, I know Bill Bedford marketed some reductions of his 4mm scale coach etches, were they to n gauge or 2mm scale?
  8. These look perfect, just right for the 04 I have on my workbench.
  9. And a very interesting thread it turned out to be!
  10. Just asking some questions about coach lining, having used pressfix transfer lining when modelling in 4mm finescale, is transfer lining in 2mm worth thinking about or just too fiddly? Would it worth considering using a bow pen or is there anything else worth considering. any ideas, warmly received.
  11. Hello, I’m currently building in 2mm FS some Mark 1 coaches specifically a BG and a FO but planning on building more types. I’m trying to find details of the handrails on the coach ends along with the details of water tank fillers on the coach roofs (if they are what I think they are). Any help or photographs would be appreciated, Google searches have not really turned up much. I’m also interested in details of the FO interior- I’m building the first diagram for the FO - the one with no doors in the middle of the coach. I know some were fitted out as conventional opens and as restaurant first opens with loose seats to work with a kitchen car.
  12. More Mark 1 coach progress. The FO is looking good (in my eyes). Main body structure more or less finished, waiting to be cleaned up. Already thinking about paintwork. The chassis is nearly finished, just waiting on another vacuum cylinder to come. Then ready to clean up. Next, start on the bogies. I’m still on the look out for a B4 bogie etch but in the mean time I’ll build the mk1 bogie etch that came with it. The resin roof needs drilling to fit the ventilators. The level of detail in these kits is amazing, beating the 4mm etched kits I built in the 80s and early 90s. The designer has done an amazing job with how it all fits together. This is becoming addictive. I’m wondering how to tackle the interior, do people bother about these? Now to start on the BG.
  13. Cocktail stick trick did the business when soldering my nuts just now. (that actually sounds rather wrong and painful). Thanks for the tips on sourcing brass nuts and screws.
  14. Thanks for all the suggestions. I like the idea of cutting my own threads, I didn’t realise small metric taps and dies would be that affordable. I’ll you know how I get on.

  16. I’m joining a nickel silver coach body to a nickel silver under frame, I’ve used 2mm stores 10BA brass Cheesehead screws and nuts, having soldered the nut to the coach floor. I’ve seen on Amazon sets of stainless screws and boots in a range of metric sizes at very good prices. Would stainless steel solder to nickel silver. I’d like to M1.4 screws and bolts. Is there another source for M1.4 screws and bolts in brass? Any help appreciated.
  17. Hi, after returning to fine scale modelling after a hiatus of nearly 30 years, I’d like ask people about painting (hope this doesn’t stir up a big debate). In the past, I’d always clean up etched brass models with a fibreglass brush followed by a scrub using a cream kitchen cleaner and a tooth brush. I’d use a car undercoat spray can followed by a couple of coats of thinned enamel using an airbrush, weathering would then follow being finally sealed with a thin coat of Matt of varnish applied through an airbrush. Is it the same technology these days. I did start to use acrylic paint, I found the fumes more bearable. Any help or ideas on this subject would be welcomed. I’ve still got my old pasche airbrush and have serviced it ready.
  18. Has anyone get a spare 2-152 etch for BR Mk4 bogies? I’m building a Mk1 FO at present which came with a mk1 bogies but the prototype I’m modelling on mk4s in the 1970s period I’m modelling.
  19. More a sign of my ineptness with technology and no, I’m not based in Australia before anyone asks.
  20. I hope no one’s getting bored of my current project (I’ve not built an etched coach kit in nearly 30 years, and that in Scale4). The basic shells are completed. Next step is to make all the holes are clear for hand rails, door handles and to make up and solder in the end foot steps. After that it’s the under frame. It would probably a lot easier to detail ready to run BR Mk1 coaches but it wouldn’t be half as satisfying. I’m just hoping the remaining stock at Shop 3 doesn’t sell out first. I’m on the look out for unmade BFK kits, GUV and CCT kits.
  21. My work so far... Mk1 FO and Mk 1 BG Really enjoying the build so far, etched kits have moved on hugely over 30 years. Has anyone got any photos of the water filling point over the toilet compartment and what the handrails are like. I guess David Parkin’s Mk 1 book should be a purchase but the cost. Looks like I’m going to be buying a few more of these kits.
