  3. A general question, except for at level crossings have ground frames ever operated signals? - or does having the authority to operate them in itself make this redundant?
  4. Yes, it's just a figure of speech for non-segregation of arrival and departure roads, the more segregation the less adverse occupation of signalling blocks.
  5. It's 3D view in SCARM. I like it, with two platform roads you have the quick succession of simultaneous arrival/departure, arrival, departure, simultaneous arrival/departure with no 'wrong line' departure from a platform 3 to occupy the signalling block and slow the flow (though it would be interesting to see which version copes better with a tidal flow, is the extra capacity of a platform 3 cancelled out by the 'wrong line' running needed to depart from it?) Interestingly, if you reverse the throat (so that this view looks from the platform end) the 'wrong line' element of departing from platform 2 is completely removed giving a more complete segregation of arrival and departure roads (the arrival and departure 'forks' cross rather than interlace, but this reversal doesn't work for 3 platforms). I'm thinking multiple units but loco-hauled with a new engine trailing in from off scene and the old engine chasing out would work too.

I think the major difference is that it reverses the handedness of Minories, it never flips to a Minories shape so the Minories reverse curve into platform 1 becomes a less immediate reverse curve into platform 3 (bottom) Or flipped this way, platform 1 (top) Which looks a lot like Bastille. So the secret of Bastille is in its handedness not its continuously curved approach. So the Minories offset is something of a red herring, its the handedness of it in relation to the platforms that's the issue.

Thanks but I can't see that diagram for some reason, so to clarify, a ground position light can be placed exactly at the toe of a facing point in a running line and no subsidiary signal is needed on the main aspect in rear of it? If it is cleared for running moves how would a driver know it has cleared correctly for a shunting move?
  10. No particular trackplan, just trying to understand it in general terms, track circuit block, BR onwards.

I understand that ground position lights should be positioned at the toe of the relevant points but that for facing points off a running line there should be a subsidiary signal on a main aspect instead (to avoid passing a red ground position light at the facing point). How far in rear of the facing point can this main aspect be positioned? If the facing point is off a running loop I imagine this often results in having a main aspect positioned on the running loop solely for this purpose?
