  1. Could any RMweb members please help? I am trying to identify locomotive class that would have been at Shirebrook depot it its first years of operation eg 1965-66. I have found information relating to the 1970s which mentions classes 08, 20,37,47 and 56 but this is a little late for my period. I understand that in affect the depot was an Eastern region depot coming under the wing of Tinsley TMD. With that being the case, and whilst l so far not been able to find photographic evidence, would it have been feasible that class 37s and 31 would have been seen at the depot in its early years? I have only so far found photos of class 47s from 1966. Any help or guidance anyone could provide with be greatly appreciated Fingers crossed Bob C
  2. Hi Brian Thank you for taking the time to post the two photos. You are far to modest, you ve done a cracking job and really brought the model to life. Weathering is a subtle art, and as in this case, really brings the subject to life Thank Bob C
  3. Hi 64F Thank you for replying, your information confirms what l ve found so far, sounds like unless l wish to model a preserved loco, the green Heljan loco is going to be no good to me
  4. Gone already!! But many thanks for the heads up! Bob C
  5. Good evening Alasdair Thanks for the pointers and links, all really helpful information. I had tried going through the RailScot site, but had found it not the easiest of sites to navigate, so your links are most welcome. It seems the 25/3 tended to keep themselves to the Edinburgh side of Hawick, so l think l ll be dusting off my plans for Falahill loops! Once again many thanks for your help Bob C
  6. Can anyone please enlighten me? I seem to recall that both Eastfield and Haymarket depots received a small allocation of class 25/3s when new in 1966/67. Does anyone know if the Haymarket 25/3s ever ventured onto the Waverley route, or alternatively did any of the LMR 25/3s reach the route? I ve noted a couple of Waverley based layouts here on RMweb have 25/3s featured on them, however l confess l don't think l ve ever seen a photo or heard mention of this actually occurring ? Bob C
  7. Hi there thanks for posting these two photos The 1st one at Blisworth shows the lead loco with its center doors plated over. Would that have been done as early as 1964? Bob C
  8. I wonder if the class 26 experts among us could help please? I note that the Heljan class 26 has the nose end doors plated over, is this correct for the green liveried version? Does anyone know when did they started to get plated over. I see Tower models have 3 left and l m tempted, but suspect its not up to the same standard as the latest models like the 25/3 of the Peak. If anyone has any photos of theirs they would be prepared to post l d be most grateful. Many thanks in advance Bob C
  9. Wanted Heljan 0 gauge disc head code version class 20. Good clean unmolested example sought. Good loving home waiting! Please PM me with details Bob C
  10. Thanks for the Info Jonny, looks like l m back to my search again than!!
  11. Oh dear, so its not as clear cut as l had hoped. I wonder what happened to the loco once it had reached Colwick, did to work the same rake back or move on to another duty?
  12. Thanks for this info Mike, it all helps build a clearer picture. For me the good thing is that they were about around my chosen time. bob C
  13. Hi 18B Thanks for this input, l think your assumption is most probably correct. I am currently on page 317 of Dave Fs photo pages, and have only found one type 3 working in from the Eastern Region, in this case via Bottesford 1968. The supporting notes contain reference to this working possibly being a Saturday only Doncaster to Toton working, if that's the case, that good enough for me, l have my type 3 at Toton!! I hope Dave does not mind me copying his photo to uas as example. once again thanks for replying Bob C
  14. Thanks for that FC, that's the feeling l ve been left with, as l ve not found, as yet any photos either. All I ve found is a few of Brush type 2s at Stanton Gate and Shipley working in from Tinsley I believe, but strangely, the type 3s are conspicuous by their absence ! Thanks for the link too!
  15. Can anyone confirm if Eastern region class 37s worked to Toton Yard in 1966 - 67? I know they were working this route by the early 1970s, but by then were in Blue. I ve been trying to fine photos of the later series machines built at the Vulcan works, which were transferred off the Western region around this time, but were still in Green. I ve been trawling through the pages of Dave F s photos, and have found so many great photos from this period, (Thank you Dave!) but as l ve only gotten to page 200, l ve got a fair few more to go! Any help would be greatly appreciated Bob C
  16. Many thanks for this information, it does confirm what l had already found re her time spent at Eastfield and at Polmadie. Cheers Bob C
  17. Hi CovKid Many thanks for your input, Yes the reason behind my inquiry is just to make sure l ve the right locomotive for the planned time frame. There is a picture of her on the "Railscot" web site with her on the Airport branch at Prestwick (Fuel sidings left after the Monkton Branch was truncated) around 1968-69 still in Green with FYWP. So from that point l m reasonably happy to use this loco on my planned layout, whether she was sheded at Polmadie or Eastfield. Could l be cheeky and ask if you could expand upon your last comment re if she's a lowland based engine? So the next loco on my list is the big Suzler type 4s, which laid over in Glasgow after working north, and were used for local passenger and freight workings down in to Ayrshire around my proposed time frame. I ve traced a Saturday morning mail working from Glasgow to Ayr (On the Derby Sulzers web site), where the Type 4 comes off and runs light to Largs to work a local back to Glasgow, all very early morning stuff so as you as not much chance of a photo though! Once again many thanks
  18. Evening MB, thanks for the heads up on that sighting, much appreciated Bob C
  19. Hi Keefer Many thanks for finding these two images, its a shame there is no date, but l suspect 1968, as it looks like the old fuel sidings on the Monkton side of Prestwick Airport. There are a series of photos taken at this location which feature 25/3s , Claytons and even a Brush type 4 all around the 1968 period, working fuel trains, but this is the 1st photos l ve seen of a type 3. Thank you so much for finding them!
  20. So far no luck with my research, does anyone have any photos of class 37s in Ayrshire circa 1967? Still hoping for a miracle!!
  21. Many Thanks for the heads up Kev, I ll order a copy off Ebay today Cheers Bob C
  22. I wonder if any RMweb members can help me please? I am trying to trace evidence of D6840 working in the Ayrshire area in 1967-68. My research has so far has confirmed she with allocated to Eastfield Depot on the 31/12/1966 and remained there for about 18 months. So far l have been unable to identify what work she was allocated to. I am hoping to find that she may have worked down as far as Falkland yard, just north of Ayr during her stay in Scotland. Can anyone confirm this? Fingers Crossed Bob C
  23. Hi Julian Thanks for the reply, I ve got the Santona book and the August/September 1980 Railway Modellers that the P4 version featured in, I was hoping to find some photos or info on the 7mm version which had more trackwork than the original P4 version Bob C
