  1. The Davington end still shows the basic shape of the station area although is now a close of houses. I think the track bed from Oare would still be easily walkable - it's just fenced off by the farm owner and isn't a public right of way. The Ordnance Survey wouldn't have marked the railway during the war as it was a military installation (owned by the Admiralty) and disappeared so quickly afterwards that it wouldn't have been shown on post-war maps. The Davington end could probably be reasonably accurately modelled from the two or three illegally taken photos of the time but it's a project I'm putting on the back burner.
  2. When I worked in Ramsgate a regular walk was along the front to Jacob's Ladder at the Harbour End then back up the Augusta Steps - I'm not sure it did my knees any good.
  3. The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man - Rolling Stones
  4. Who knows where the time goes? - Fairport Convention
  5. The air that I breathe - the hollies
  6. You can leave your hat on - Joe Cocker
  7. Yes they're not a bad scale size - much better than lollipop sticks.
  8. A bit more progress. Loading stage knocked up - coffee stirrers and brick plasticard. Needs refinement. Assembled a lean-to that was left over from a kit to use as a porch/entrance. Made the framework of the main building out of more foam off-cuts.
  9. Together in Electric Dreams - Giorgio Moroder, Philip Oakley
  10. Whilst I had the filler out I knocked up a loading dock base out of scraps of foam, then coated it in filler. After sanding I tried engraving bricks in the filler... I'm sure it's a possible method for representing brick work but I soon realised my hand is not steady enough, and my boredom threshold too low... Plan now is to cover the thing in brick paper or offcuts of brick plasticard. Probably coffee stirrers for a planked top.
  11. Not a lot of free time, but got round to putting filler over the corks:
  12. Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict - Pink Floyd
  13. It was a Colville's loco, running at Mossend - I don't think it ever ran at Sittingbourne - most of the railway is narrow gauge (part of the old Bowater's line) but has been on static display for years. When the current situation improves I must pop up to Sittingbourne to see what state it's in (only a few miles up the road from me). https://preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.com/peckett-sons-works-no-614-the-bear-0-4-0st/
  14. Looking forward to seeing this. I've had Bear on pre-order for a couple of months too. Of course Bear did spend most of it's working life in Scotland.
  15. The Ugliest Man In Town - Shel Silverstein
  16. It's my first model making in 35 years so I'm a learner too! One think I did find was investing in a chopper makes working with stripwood much less painful - whilst a sharp knife or razor saw and rule works, it's a very laborious fiddly business cutting lots of pieces to the same length.
  17. The back is 0.3mm ply (wood and plasticard don't stick easily), the strips are 1mm square mahogany and walnut (Cornwall Model Boats have a good range of timber at reasonable prices, but I suspect any model shop aimed at boat builders will carry timber).
  18. Death On Two Legs (Dedicated To…) - Queen
  19. The RMWeb drives me to drink update To form the basis of the rough ground at the front of the diorama I wanted something light and easily to cut with a knife. Three bottles later and enough wine corks to create the foundations for the ground.
  20. Broken Down Mama - Shel Silverstein and the Red Onions
  21. I was going to pick up some ply but acquired some Foamex offcuts that I cut to size. The White piece wasn't quite long enough to do two full sides as a backdrop, but I don't think that matters too much. Track is just a couple of spare bits of Hornby set track spare from the main layout.
  22. Never gonna give you up - Rick Astley (Sorry folks :-) )
  23. Mama Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys – Waylon Jennings with Willie Nelson
