  1. Has anyone had any issues running these coaches on 2nd radius curves? My TSOs and BSK both drag slightly on the curves but the RMB is really bad and barely rolls at all round the curves. Seem the issue is with the wheels rubbing against the chassis frame.

By far the most interesting development on the Hornby stand for me was the demo of P2 2007 with the steam effect and  a correct 6 beats per revolution. Uses an optical sensor which will be included on future steam models but won’t be sold separately for retro fitting as chassis woul need to be modified to fit it.  It was really effective in operation and is perhaps a game changer for TXS going forwards.

Got a short video if this working. I thought it looked pretty good. Also the water was refilled in the smokebox door which looked to fold down on a hinge at the bottom but unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to get a picture of this.

Looking forward to seeing this layout progressing - especially with the vibrant selection of mix match rolling stock liveries on offer around this period! Keep up the good work 😄

I don't think he's doing any more work on this layout unfortunately. He posted on his Instagram page he was having to stop and since then has deleted the account as well as the Facebook and Youtube account. Not sure what has happened but hope he's OK.

The comparison between the two Evening Star models is interesting.

The one thing that stands out is the placing of the late crest on the tender side. Photos of the real thing in BR service shows the late crest where it is on the Bachmann model, on the Hornby version it lines it up with the centre axlebox which is incorrect.

However apart from this and the usual bright metal tyres and buffers (which applies to all Hornby models), IMHO the Hornby model is the superior model ...

... and please make a model of 92245!

The crest looks to be in the correct place as it is currently preserved in the NRM. I coloured the tyres in with Sharpie on mine which improved it.

Is it just me, or does the artwork look more like the newer edition, but with the purple line? The newer version looks like the planes have black as the base colour, rather than green, and the Hornby model seems to look the same from the pics I have seen. Some Flickr pics for comparison.

Might just be my eyesight but the newer one looks darker and more in line with the model.

The Spitfire's left wing is in the correct position on the model as per the older pictures. On the newer pictures it's moved backwards.

    This is what I sent...

The title was MK4 DVT kinematic coupler...

Do you have spares for the above as mine has snapped the first time I attempted to use the close coupler bar.   The pockets seem incredibly flimsy and the bars difficult to engage.

That is pretty much what I sent. Very strange. I can't understand the benefit of sending it back to them unless they are going to replace the whole model. Which would be a waste I think but it seems that's the only option I have. I also have two Azuma dummy end units to send back with faulty flickering lighting so I best find a big box...

I was rather miffed at first that they didn’t offer to repair it:).  I was dreading trying to fixing it myself especially the spring, but a decent pair of tweezers and and good light and I managed it (and I’m not exaggerating when I say I am a ham fisted klutz)

They are insisting that I send mine in and won't simply provide a replacement in the post. Not sure why they are treating this different to you 🤔

Oh well a little padded envelope arrived today with a replacement kinematic coupler, spring (as the old one made an excited break for freedom and has never been seem again) and extra nem tension lock.  The DVT is easy enough to disassemble, and the coupler easyish to fix with a pair of tweezers (i tried a dab of pay on the spring to try to arrest and escape attempts).  So good service from Hornby, and I have a workable dvt again…

That's interesting, they want me to send my DVT in for a quality check despite the fact the coupler is clearly broken so all it would do is confirm this. I have not got round to sending it yet but will call them on Monday to see if they can just send me a replacement as well to save the hassle of posting it to them.

i've not looked on the AS product section but last week they did a screen shot of a new product (was it a class 31 EP), in the background was a box with TT, 1:120. Now i'm not wanting to start rumours but did AS get wind about this or have AS got some TT stuff up their sleeves and Hornby have brought forward their product launch?

either way i agree with others, this is really exciting, far more of a buzz than just a new loco. Big gamble and i really hope to pays off for Hornby. in the next 2 months i'm setting up an office, this would be perfect (i had N some time ago but i could not get on with how fiddly it is, drove me crazy).

The picture you mention says "TT A3" which of course Hornby wouldn't want to be beaten to the market on. So you could be right if Accurascale are developing their own TT A3, Hornby may have decided to bring forward the announcement..

OK what's the knack with the close couple bars?  The only way I can get them to couple is tonturnt he coaches on their roofs which becomes more and more difficult as the set increases in length!

Same here and unfortunately during my attempts to couple to the DVT recently I have broken the cam coupling on it as they are extremely flimsy. Contacted Hornby hoping they have spares...

  11. To fix your Class 91 problems that occur due to a terrible design, I recommend putting a spacer washer* (I made mine out of cardboard) around the pivot point between the top of the bogie worm drive holder and the bogie holder cradle part of the chassis.

*See orange arrow in my photo.

If you do this on both bogies it raises the body slightly and gives the bogies the extra bit of fore/aft movement they need to stop derailing.

This also stops the tabs on the bogies wearing away as seen in @NewSiding post. I also experienced this before doing my modification.

When you add this spacer in be careful to not let the driveshaft fall out as it's a right pain to get back in!

I have done this to two 91s now and it works for me. I cancelled the rest of my 91 orders because I shouldn't have to do this but at least they work properly now.

  12. I received my model preordered direct from Hornby after seemingly an age to get through Hermes distribution network.

On arrival I noticed the smoke deflector was broken so immediately packed it back up again and emailed Hornby hoping they can replace it.

The lack of stock got me thinking that if they can't replace it whether a repair would be noticeable if I just glued the smoke deflector back on. On second inspection I also noticed that the tender drawbar connection was also damaged which put pay to any hopes of just repairing the smoke deflector as the tender mounting is totally broken making the loco unusable.

Very disappointed. Just hope Hornby can sort something but I do feel for them as I expect this is going to hurt them financially (which they really don't need) with so many broken models out there.

  13. Maybe SK said he has got a tip off another manufacturer is making a HST to try and put off any other potential manufacturers making a HST? No one will want to think they are the 3rd manufacturer to the table. Just and idea I had :scratchhead:
