It is a shame the retailer did not check and service the model before sale. -

Hello Keith A couple of issues, could be the brushes are contaminated and need replacement or the magnet on the motor is weak. Is the motor getting warm? Kevin -

Being a collector I am prepared to accept it is far from perfect, all have their shortcomings but the drive mechanism of the Trix is superb. I was expecting it to be heavier than it turned out. The main issue for me is the chimney is a little too tall but I can live with that. -

I will try to do a short video tomorrow with some Hornby Pullman or LNER teaks. -

I have put my Trix Scotsman alongside my Hornby models so the size difference can be viewed. -
Marklin CS3 Controller 19 volt Track Voltage
Bigskybirds replied to Bigskybirds's topic in DCC Help & Questions
Thank you for your reply. I have a DCC concepts voltmeter connected to my layout and borrowed a CS3 system to test. The meter displayed a track voltage of 19 - 19.5 volts during a brief test although everything worked fine. -
I am considering purchasing a Marklin CS3 controller to run my layout, the CS3 has a fixed track voltage of 19 volts. My collection is a mixture of Marklin Trix Roco and Piko Mfx and DCC locomotives both 2 and 3 rail. I expect there will be no issues with Voltage using my Marklin models, but will 19 volts be too high and cause damage for the Roco and Piko models. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

That may be the case I am not sure. -

I placed my order when it was first announced but now on seeing the videos I may cancel. The chimney does not look correct to my eyes, the smoke is poor compared to my existing Marklin/Trix dynamic smoke models and the sound seems flat although that could be down to the sound recording of the videos I watched. I am sure of one thing the build quality and running will be good. -

I really enjoyed this, it had me hooked. I love Pete's enthusiasm and how he encourages youngsters in to the hobby. As he said kids go home and say dad let's get the train set out! Well done More4. -
Motor getting very hot with decoder
Bigskybirds replied to Bigskybirds's topic in DCC Help & Questions
Thank you Nigel. I found switching back EMF off made a difference and the motor ran without buzzing. I think I will leave this particular model as DCC ready and operate on DC. -
I have a Rivarossi HR2306 BR 61 Locomotive that is is DCC ready with a 21 pin socket. I fitted a Loksound dcc decoder and found it made the motor noisy, on close inspection the motor was very hot even after a short run. I then tried a Laisdcc decoder, the motor was less noisy but still getting very hot. I reinstalled the blanking plug and ran on DC the motor was quiet, smooth and after 30 minutes running only slightly warm to the touch. Is it a case that some motors do not like being controlled by a decoder and respond better to DC. Any advice appreciated, thank you..

Looks like a limited edition of just 1

I have found that Clarkrailworks are also not bothering to photograph some of their items out of the box. This approach appears to be spreading so we have to guess what we will end up with.
-
A very good box, only £100! https://www.hattons.co.uk/1510811/roco_63289_po_class_326_003_0_6_0t_of_the_mav_pre_owned_dcc_fitted_very_good_box/stockdetail

But does it come in a good box? That's all that matters.😁
-
It seems to me the price is set more on the condition of the box than the item.
-
I did contact them to ask their reason for a none runner to be higher priced when relisted, the response was when I bought it 2 weeks ago it was on promotion, now it is not.
-
I recently purchased a Bachmann USA locomotive that was sealed in the box described as dcc fitted and good sealed box, the cost was £127. On receipt it was a non runner so I contacted Hattons and they gladly accepted the return. It was relisted a week later as a none runner for £148. That's £21 more but I suppose they are covering their return costs.

DCC and DC toggle switching arrangement
Bigskybirds replied to paulbb's topic in DCC Help & Questions
My layout is 10x8 and I have 4 loops, they are all switchable between DC and DCC and the third loop is 3 - rail which is also switchable between 2 and 3 rail plus DC and DCC. I use DPDT switches for each track and use isolated points for the sidings. I have had the layout since 2016 and never got mixed up or killed a Locomotive. I also switch each loop separately between Gaugemaster DC controllers and Z21, Lenz and ECoS DCC controllers.
