  1. Thank you for the above advice. My youngest's experience of railways is mainly in Italy so I'm also looking to see what is available in N and TT over there. I'd like to make the double-decker coaches as that's what they enjoy most at the moment but this is definitely a long term project!
  2. Thanks Garry, just what I was after!
  3. The 3mm society says "OO too big? N too small?" but does anybody have an image showing the difference? I ask because I'm looking to start building a layout from scratch and so I was thinking as 3mm seemingly has most going for it on this side versus 2mm, which I have been leaning towards, but as I am restricted in size due to living conditions is 3mm still too big? I would be grateful if somebody could provide an image of an engine in 3mm against 2mm as I haven't yet found anything online. My layout will be based around a simple loop initially as I want something to provide for my youngest to run a train around to start with and if they lose interest I can build up for myself after.
  4. I enjoyed following today's proceeds, and discovering new layouts and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens tomorrow.
  5. Seconded. It was well put together and I really enjoyed watching it.
  6. As somebody who this question is aimed at I would say yes. After returning for the first time since a teenager where I used to spend my pocket money on model railways, this is clearly no longer the case. I had to get my dad to cough up some money for a set for my youngest. As somebody else has mentioned prices are high for other hobbies but this is one that can be achieved through kit-bulding. I have already scratchbuilt some buildings and will move on to a wagon next. The buildings were made from cardboard around the house and if they get broken or my kid loses interest then no problem. Now my interest is renewed I will be attempting to make most of a layout by hand
  7. I can't see if anyone has already asked but what do you use for the foliage on your trees? They're very impressive.
  8. @Scottish Modeller - @Andrew D Just posted the below to Jim Read's blog which includes a link to ERG's book https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Jyq9EUivUXDdpO-RP4lFDcJ5qYwlevu_/view Thank you to everyone. I'm enjoying the contributions to this site.
  9. I haven't been to the far western part of Liguria yet, we mainly travel to the eastern side. I aim one day to travel to genoa by train rather than fly. My first project though is scratchbuilding Hogsmeade station and Platform 9 & 3/4 to get my youngest's interest.
  10. Have you tried contacting the Dulwich Society? I've only seen them on social media but they seem quite knowledgeable
  11. That's great, thanks for sharing the archive I had a quick look. If anyone wanted to scratch-build the station of Ventimiglia, all the plans are there.
  12. Hello, I'm new to the site and looking to start in modelling. This book looks like the thing I am looking for as I want to scratch-build with cardboard. Unfortunately the link no longer works. Is anyone able to help?
  13. Hello, love the layout. I'm looking to build something in N gauge for my daughter with Italian stock and was thinking about the Del Prado shell on a chassis so good to see your result. One day I plan to build either Brignole or Principe station but small steps ...
