  1. Wondering if anyone is looking to sell. Was very excited to find on Tuesday that kernow had one left in stock so ordered. Received a message next day that that last version was damaged and therefore had my order cancelled. A shame but things happen. Was really after the full side skirts and British Railways lettering version
  2. Hi Nigelcliff, do you know how I can add a stay alive capacitor if I get the decoder without stay alive provision? Thought I could find the answer on google but appears not!
  3. That's perfect, thanks. Waving drivers and opening doors are a little advanced for me so I think I go basic with zimo!
  4. Anyone else see the Bachmann nse 159 as too dark grey?
  5. And I've just remembered the nse version is actually a 159 (3 car vs 2 car)!
  6. Do you not feel the grey on the nse livery version looks a like too dark? Or maybe just the pics I've seen. Otherwise I agree they look great and could just about squeeze into my 80s (pushing it to early 90s layout)
  7. Forgive me, but I still struggle to understand the differences. If I want stay alive (prob not necessary on a class 47 but relevant maybe for a 08) I should avoid the 638d. Out of the others, what does a higher power rating and adjustable low voltage output give me in the real world? Any benefit to slow speed running? Is an extra 2 function outputs worth having? In the absence of sound I guess I only need function outputs for light combinations or are there any clever aspects to save a function or two for? Comments very much appreciated, thanks, Henry
  8. Thanks for all your good advice. I think I'll give zimo a try. I thought it'd be easy, just go online and find a non sound 21 pin for my Bachmann class 47,then I find out there are 3 options... Anyone know what the differences are between MX634D, MX636D and MX638D? Thanks again! Henry
  9. I am in (perhaps) the very fortunate position of converting from n to oo and can start afresh with my collection. When in n I learned the pain of combining different decoders amongst my fleet so would like to start afresh and only 'learn' how to use one brand. If you were to start again, what would you use and why? Important to me is slow speed performance and the ability to add a stay alive for some smaller locos. Sound is not important to me as I prefer to run without. I will be modeling a mix of steam and diesels in 50s/60s BR and 80s BR. Thanks in advance! Henry
  10. Saw this thread on the Hornby page and thought a Bachmann equivalent could work well. Apologies if such a thread already exists (in which case mods please kill this thread) but I couldn't find one... I suppose I better declare my intentions as an interested party who is looking to build a br steam and diesel collection (plans afoot for a layout that can shift between 1950s/60s one day to 1980s the next). I've been modelling in n gauge until now I've moved house and have more space. Previous experience in oo gauge is in the 1990s as a child with a bit of Hornby, Dapol and Bachmann. I'm looking forward to getting back into the hobby in oo. If Sam's Trains is anything to go by Bachmann are often good on detail and finish, but sometimes poor on mechanisms and often pricey. It would be great to see some exceptions to this as I'm sure there are some...
  11. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Doesn't makes sense the 5 car will be later than the 7 car in my opinion. Surely 5 cars easier to produce vs 7 cars, and no black ends to paint. Don't know if anyone else feels the same, but the black ends on Hornbys painted sample doesn't look quite right to me. Don't thing the black vs yellow join should match the join on the front panel that covers the buffers. Otherwise look spot on to me.
  12. Strange that Hornby website now shows the 5 car set as being due winter 2021 but the 7 car set due summer 2021...?
  13. Hi, After moving house and finding a bit more space, I'm tempted to move from n gauge to oo gauge. First on the list is a swallow hst. I see I can purchase a full rake of coaches (codes r40002/3/4/5 etc) and I need to find a second hand set of power cars to match (as I must admit I am not a fan of the buffered power cars available now). My question is will I get colour shade or pattern discrepancies between the coaches I've selected and a second hand pair of power cars? Also, which power cars set to go for as I've seen two relatively recent swallow sets that have been produced. Advice much appreciated as I do not want to make the mistake I made initially with my old Dapol n gauge hst were the coaches were from different batches and the colours and stripe widths did not match coach to coach. Thanks, Henry
