  1. A nice visit to the WSR with a mogul and Witherslack Hall running. And having never been there before I thought Blue Anchor station was lovely: But Watchet was nice too:
  2. Indeed - this seems like a great plan. Andy
  3. I was thinking of printing the whole set of bolections as a single strip to go in after painting?
  4. I suspect laser cutting will be way cheaper if you do batches and also thinner and clearer? But interesting to see. The other thought is painting bolections - might it be worth printing them separately to aid painting?
  5. Duncan, I have been thinking about the coach glazing. If it is possible to source laser cut window glazing parts might it be possible to arrange a slight pocket on the inside of the coach to accept a slightly oversize bit of glazing plastic? What thickness of glazing plastic would be your preference? it struck me that very many coach windows are similar and large batch cutting to supply your customers could easily be viable using a commercial laser cut service. Andy
  6. Yes it seems the drawing has been rather hurriedly made from two scans. Easy to fix though as no doubt all the third class compartments were the same.
  7. Does anyone have a photo of an E19 to confirm the drawing that shows the narrow window on the the 5th compartment from the left hand end? https://gwrcoaches.org.uk/LowRoofs.shtml#E19 It leads to a very shallow seat in that compartment.
  8. And a tiny pony attached to the luggage truck! Did not know they did that. I suppose it’s the ramp up to the road.
  9. I definitely plan an E40 pair for Helston, but also an E19 pair as well. Then throw in various odds and sods of four and six wheel stock, siphons, horse boxes, etc. But I am still mystified by the three plank wagon added to the E19s Andy
  10. We have decided on Watchet after a walk near Porlock (we ae doing county high points) but may stop by Blue Harbour en route.
  11. Off to West Somerset later this week. Does anyone have a favourite station on the heritage line there? Not sure what will be in steam.
  12. Given there are no guards lookouts it seems more likely to be V3: https://gwrcoaches.org.uk/Vdiags.shtml#V3 But it could be the versions of V8 and V13 without lookouts of course (V9 or V14). As it happens I do have a Hattons Originals H4-6FB-101L 6 wheel full brake which is pretty close to the V8 so could add that behind a pair of E19s!
  13. With the help of the @The Stationmaster we have concluded that the shunting klaxon at Helston had its own post some 50 yards up the line and the control box for the shunter in the yard just had a single telegraph line insulator on its top. It seems the klaxon would have been on a white painted post and the control box on a telegraph pole: I have also painted the stink pipe green:
  14. Its an interesting question (at least to me) as to why it was attached to this early coach set.
  15. This is the photo showing the wagon. Its my copy of an original held in the Helston Museum. I was allowed to make a copy for research purposes so I am sure its OK on this thread. My main interest had been the E19 composite coach (https://gwrcoaches.org.uk/LowRoofs.shtml#E19) until discussion of the wagon arose!
  16. I hope to build up an etched kit of one of these for Helston. Does anyone recognise the van at the back?
  17. I have to confess to knowing nothing at all about these early wagons. But I do like rakes of mixed and interesting stock if it can be justified on the branch.
  18. Perfect - I have emailed - looking forwards to this as a nice little project.
  19. Oh very nice - I will take you up on that - what bits and bobs have to be added to finish them off or do you supply a complete kit?
  20. These are to vent gas from sewer pipes to a high height to blow away in the wind. There is one still doing that about 100 yards from where I live. There is the remains of one ins Station Road Helston that can be seen on Google maps. Made of cast iron with fancy base and fancy top. Some are even listed for preservation!
  21. Indeed - I have opted for the later gas lamps on my model of the station. But I really should try and get a round ended three-plank wagon from somewhere to add to my rolling stock.
  22. Those four-wheelers have been built to a beautiful standard. Something to aspire to and would look lovely in Helston.
  23. It’s my copy of an old photo held in the museum in Helston. I have not seen it used elsewhere.
  24. I have been and surveyed my layout and find I will need 12 bridge rail stretcher posts and five of the vertical bridge rail intermediate posts. I also plan to model the wooden posts right at the edge of the boards using 2mm square brass section to make them a bit more robust than the Ratio plastic ones.
