  1. Hi. I saw you picture of your prints of Jonny Duffet’s LMS hoppers and they look very good. Can I ask what printer you used to make them? I assume it’s a resin one as they look sharper than anything I have made so far. Thanks

  2. Hi Rob,

The new designs are looking great. I too have a fondness for the LYR fish van and have whitemetal and etched brass kits for them. IIntend to do one of them in LMS white livery.  You will be putting Slaters out of business with these MR designs. Any plans to do longer wheelbase MR opens and coal wagons?  Have you made any more progress with the website plans to sell these .stls? Would you consider just putting them up on cults3d where that feature already exists. Unlike Shapeways you just download the file and print it yourself rather than paying for a print. I have downloaded quite a few military designs from there without any problems. It’s very easy to use. You can put up designs for free or charge for them. Might be worth considering?

Look forward to seeing more designs.

    All the best,

    Stephen

Hey Stephen hows it going dude?

Thanks for the kind words chap as always, Hope you are doing well? Have you been doing much printing/modelling lately? I just been reading your reply to the thread on 3d printing resources, some good stuff, im still bloody undecided what to do with all these models mounting up, to be honest I just like building stuff, and a crap business man 😆

I do have plans for more MR and L&Y stuff, along with having a crack at some LNWR, NER, CR, NB, NS, and the list goes on, I have so many books now its crazy!

      Hi Rob,

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I have been printing more containers recently. I ran a few of Sacha’s Freundenberg’s latest creations off over the last couple of weeks for some guys on the LNER Info forum, some whom frequent RMWeb too. I have several frustrating print fails too resulting in several large spaghetti like balls of plastic after two hours of wasted printing. I have printed one of Jonny Duffett’s latest creations. His revised LMS weltrol. It came out pretty well. I have not posted pics as he has not uploaded it to his site yet. The latest containers from Sascha were a LNER refrigerated meat container to D25 and we are discussing just how the doors should best be represented on that one. The other was a D18 ventilated meat container. It prints quite nicely but on my machine it keeps curling up slightly at the corners. Must be a temperature difference somewhere inside the enclosure. The raft sticks like glue to the print bed but the print itself curls.

I have also been sent two designs of LNER single bolster and am waiting to find out from the designer if I can share these.

On that note I was emailing the guy runs the G1 fie g

hosting Service about seeing if he could set part of it for sharing prints to other gauges. It would be a free sharing site though.

      All the best,

      Stephen

      Hi Rob,

Lost the internet for ai bit there.

At this stage Adrian on the G1guild is talking about having links to designers pages on their sites instead, but he actually asked me if Sascha would want to post his 2mm files to the G1 site if he did not have them hosted elsewhere. This might be the closest we get to a dedicated site for railway files. Did you think any more about Cults3d?

What Scottish and North of England wagons have you got in mind next? I know Kevin Kight is working on a body only CR cattle wagon to complement his medium and large LNER cattle vans plus his medium FR one. I have the Coates volumes if you need info for LYR wagon stock. Or are you thinking coaches and NPCSS?

Have you an Excel sheet of what you have drawn already? (You could put prices on it) I have a sheet of what I have available to me already and what I intend to try and draw. However if you are drawing or have plans to draw some of the same stock, I would defer to yours as they are likely to be better and pay you for the files and use my time to draw other stuff. Would you be willing to take payment by Paypal?

Just realised the time and I have an early start. Keep in touch and let me know your thoughts about selling files this way.

      All the best,

      Stephen

      Sorry Mark,

This completely slipped my mind. I will try and do it tomorrow morning. I was even spray painting a few of these today and that failed to jog my memory.

      Apologies,

      Stephen

  5. Hi Woko,

I have been following your 3D thread for a while with the intention of making some .stl files of my own. Have only managed an end vent for LMS banana vans so far and hope to post it shortly. It printed OK on my Ender 3 S1 but is pushing the limits of that printer.  I will probably get a resin one at some point down the line to get finer detail but right now I have nowhere outside that I would be happy keeping it in. My filament printer is much more conducive to internal use but it’s in my dad’s at the meantime. I’ve managed to get some decent prints from it of pregrouping stuff supplied by Sithlord of this parish but will add Archer rivet transfers where those have failed to print clearly.

Your French church looks amazing. I am assuming it will be the backdrop for an 82nd airborne diorama? There are quite a few ruined buildings available on Cults3d if you were looking for extras but why detract from that magnificent structure. I have download a few but not yet printed the buildings so am not sure how they would turn out. Have you any plans  to put that .stl up for sale? I think it would still look very sharp blown up to 1/35 which is my scale of choice.

Your wagons, especially the NER horse boxes look superb. They will be on my to do list at some point for my Scottish Borders layout seeing as how the D&S kits are hard to get. Please keep up the good work, it is genuinely inspiring to see your efforts in any scale.

    Regards,

    Stephen

That sounds fantastic Stephen, i kind of got into modelling and printing pre-grouping stock for much of the same reason. My dad has a lot of pregrouping locos now and there is very little out there to run behind some of them! And then I joined a local club and got hooked on modelling 7mm stock, I find it a lot more satisfying, as you can really push the details.

I intend to model up some LNWR and Caley stock along with some Highland railways and potentially NBR and NER if I can get some drawings for 4 or 6 wheel coaching stock! I plan to start printing the LBSCR coaches next, but whilst it gets cold over the winter I normally find myself modelling stock to print in the spring when the printer doesn't play up so much in the cold weather!

I am looking into creating my own website and potentially going to sell my STL's so folks can download and print, I doubt there much demand on the railway stuff, as pregrouping is pretty specialised but my buildings I have quite a few now and they may fair better if they are sold fairly cheaply. It is just an idea currently, but as more folks get into 3d printing their own stuff it seems like a possibility.

I just like making stuff, it is hugely satisfying i find.

Anyway Cheers Stephen as I said if you need any pointers or tips just message me dude

      Hi Rob,

It might be a couple of weeks before I’m back up with dad but I think he has a book on NBR carriages which may have some drawings. NER ones I’m not so sure about. I’m pretty sure he has something on Caley coaches as well. I do know that he has some of the Decent Models CR Balerno stock and some of their 45’ carriage kits. I should have a couple those as well. I also have a couple of old Roxy mouldings plasticard sides for GSWR non-corridor stock and some old Ks LNWR 6 wheelers. I also have a few Trevor Charlton zinc sides. I think all of the above are all long since out of production. I know Jim Bennie is still selling his Caley coaches but they are bogie post WW1 vehicles. If I scanned some of those long lost etches against a white sheet would that be of any use to you?

      Regards,

      Stephen

      Hi Rob,

I’m going through my dad’s NBR journals now and have come across some NBR carriage stock info and drawings. Are you interested in some bogie coaches as well as the 4 and 6 wheelers?

      All the best,

      Stephen
