Now, this isn’t “madness” per se,  but I am wondering if anyone can tell me if this is an actual Bachmann model or whether it has been adapted from a Bachmann model? Tellingly, the seller shows the box but not the end panel (which would give all the manufacturer provided model description details on a label).

Also, is this a flight of fancy or did BR really paint up one of their Mk1 brake coaches to match Pullman coaches to provide ‘visual integrity’ to an all-Pullman train? If so, I imagine it might be for the later Mk1 Pullman coaches in use on the Eastern Region?

A Pullman car with a corridor? Doesn't look right to me!  Amy chance you could post the URL of the item so we can have a look?

This fell off the chassis of mine today - anyone any idea where it fits - looks smooth not corrugated as the blown up photo

Is it possibly from the side of the bogie here? Other than that I can't find anything else that matches unless it's part of the accessories. which I haven't yet fitted.

It didn't used to as there were several work arounds to do it, including an unofficial re-write by one guy, which was the one I eventually  used.

I later changed to the 23151 as I wanted a LAN connection.

No longer use Lenz but still have all the kit.

Anyone interested? I suppose I should put it on ebay but never got around to it.

When I replaced all my Lenz kit with the Z21 a couple of years ago, I put all of it on Ebay and it sold quite easily. Think I got about £50 for the 23151.  One sold last month for that amount - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116040348183

Perhaps the OP might be interested?

I'm trying to find information on the rolling stock that was being pulled by Standard 5, 73082 Camelot, from Salisbury to Basingstoke, on the run where she is said to have reached 107mph through Andover late at night on Christmas Eve 1964. I am looking to hopefully recreate the formation as closely as possible in OO Gauge.

And if you're thinking of recreating it with Bachmann's 73082, then you can forget all about 107 mph. Mine will barely do 60 mph due to the very low gearing!

Using generic FTDI drivers will not work as the Lenz ones have a custom ID which the install program uses.

I believe it will work. Some time ago, when I had a 23150, I did a clean install of W10 and was surprised that it automatically installed the FTDI driver. This didn't have the Lenz naming but it didn't stop Traincontroller from using it.

The 23151 is a much better interface as it uses standard Windows drivers, plus has the direct Ethenet connection. The current Lenz LZV200 command station has a built-in USB interface. I've had both the 23151 (with Lenz LZV100) and the LZV200 and never had interface problems with either, which was not the case with the 23150.

  6. The OP has the Lenz 23150 (LI-USB) that does not have a LAN connector. It's the replacement 23151 device that has both LAN and USB options, plus this device uses a different USB chip that uses the Windows standard drivers. The 23150 has a chip that needs the FTDI drivers.

I KNEW someone would have a response like this 😅  I feel like because the early 1940s are so un photographed, all sorts are possible

The first two locos were built at Ashford, whereas 20003 was built at Eastleigh both of which places were "off grid".  So all works visits will have required them to be hauled to and from the works.  Not found any pictures of these trips though.

  8. I've run my black DCC-fitted 20002 and monitored the current draw via my Z21 which has the ability to display booster current usage. With just 20002 running hauling 9 coaches (4 Hornby Maunsells + 5 new-style Bachmann Bulleids) and travelling at a scale 55-60 MPH, it records a current consumption of 200-250ma, which I consider perfectly normal.

  9. Another one with daft AI-generated description - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/145594386881.

It's a Bachmann Standard 4MT 75029 but you would never have guessed that from the description -

"It is a replica of the BR 102 and features a tender, wheel configuration of 4-6-0, and a gauge of OO. The locomotive is from the brand B&R and comes in the colour black."

Plus a set of all-vertical photos!

Has there been any chat on here about a Company called Easy Live taking small and regular amounts of money from a Bank Account.? I've read it somewhere! I have bought stuff from them in the past.

On checking my Bank Account to day I find regular £3 amounts going out...but last November it was 3 x£3 on the same day!

I'm on it after phoning the Bank and will be calling them tomorrow. I'm just sure I've read about this somewhere, thus asking here.

I had a similar problem years ago when I 'accidentally' joined Amazon Prime (and it was by mistake) when I ordered something!

    Thanks

    Phil

Do you buy stuff at auction? This sounds like https://www.easyliveauction.com/.  When you register to bid at the auction, you can opt to either pay internet commission on each item you buy, or you can pay a flat fee of £3.  I've done this recently but only for one auction so far.

Looking for Bachmann FGA wagons on a general Google search, and ending up hitting these on eBay…

Now, is it me or is that a touch overpriced?

    Steve S

Individually there are a number available in the £35-40 price range, so £139 for 4 new ones seems about right?

Not to mention £25 for P&P.  Not all he's got at ludicrous prices either.

When I see things priced at way over their market value, I tend to suspect that the "sale" (whether or not goods actually change hands) is part of a money laundering operation.  That's provided it sells of course.

If you look at this guy's profile, he has 1100 items for sale, most of which are seriously overpriced. However, in the last 3 months he's only sold 5 items at modest prices, and since joining in 2006 only 206 items. But he has 175 followers, and many of these overpriced items have large numbers of watchers. So what's his purpose?  Listing all these items must be a lot of work but don't seem to be generating any revenue.

It's been on these pages before - not surprising as it was first listed in August 2022! If you look at his other items, he has many more well into 4 figures, including this R1073 Venice-Simplon one -  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334621993835 .  These go at auction for no more than £200-300 these days.

Yesterday, Friday 26th January 2024, a BBC tv crew visited Hattons and ourselves re the condition of the model railway industry. This will be available to viewers in the north west and surrounding area.

Will be advised of the date it is being aired.

The regional news programmes are available to everyone on BBC iplayer but only for 24 hours after broadcast. Plus if you have Sky you can tune in live to the programme, or set it to record once the time is known.  BBC North West is on Sky channel 953 if your box is tuned to a different area.

A quick livery query if I might.

I went for the BR black/silver option but can't find any references to the silver roof having black ends over the cab. Plenty of pics showing all-over silver roof, especially in the Southern Way special on these locos. And pics also seem to indicate the roofs becoming grimy greyish in service. I'm thinking of repainting my roof all-over silver so do wonder if anyone has already done it successfully, if so what paint did they use as I'd like to avoid a crinkly reaction. Thanks.

Yes I would agree with you here. Didn't notice it myself until you have pointed it here.  All pictures I can find of the loco in early black livery do have the silver up over the cab too. But this seems to have ceased when the loco was repainted in BR green, as all the pictures I've found of the loco in green have green cabs too.

Have Bachmann made a mistake? Perhaps Graham would like to comment?

  16. Received my replacement 20002 from Kernow a few days ago and am very pleased with it. Fitted a Lenz 21-pin decoder and tested it on all my pointwork with no issues. All code 75 with double-slips and 3-ways in the station throat and it rattles over them with no problem. But there was a derailment when I reversed it into a storage yard road. I use Tortoise point motors and discovered the fulcrum had dropped down leaving the blades swinging freely as I'd removed the spring. Could have been like that for some time as the point is usually only traversed in trailing mode.

Couple of issues with the lights though not the fault of the loco. Headlights only working at one end was resolved by a full decoder reset, which was a surprise! And cab lights only working at one end as the Lenz decoder is only 5-function - hence my post earlier about why not using F1 and F2. I'm not really bothered about cab lights, but I do have a Bachmann 4-CEP with a Zimo MX638 and could swap decoders if I ever decide I want the lights at both ends after all.

Thanks, they prove the concept. Ideally what I want is a version that rather than having free wires can replicate the tabs that make contact with the connectors within the Bachmann pocket. I might try and have a play with these suggestions if I can justify the cost on experimental grounds

Would be interested to see how you get on. Ordinary couplings, such as the Roco 40270, can be used in the 4-CEPs but you lose the electrical connection. So these conductive ones will fit and not be troubled by the connectors in the NEM pockets. All you would need to do is connect the wires internally and hence could be reversible.

One issue would be the coupling lengths. I use the class 101 conductive couplings in both my 4-CEPs and Kernow 205s as they provide much better close coupling. The 4-CEP corridors touch on straight track, for example. The 2-EPB coupling is shorter than the 101 but provides the correct close coupling.

The VN5017 retails for £21-25 for 3 pairs which is not bad for a full 4-CEP but they're out of stock everywhere. Viessman list them on their website so it would seem they're not discontinued.  Can't find the REE couplings anywhere and they're not listed on the REE website.
