  1. Thanks Rod,

Yes I'm quite pleased with progress though I'm sure at some stage something will come along and hold things up. I've just completed one of the two points that will be on the layout, I'm using C&L Fine scale B6 which I really enjoy building. All trackwork will be C&L fine scale with point operation via Tortoise Switch Machines which I used most successfully on my Haymarket Cross layout.

I have also managed to keep all my Digitrax electronics from the above layout which I intend to use on this project.

  2. Thanks for your comments guys, unfortunately RMweb doesn't seem to want to let me upload a plan of my layout so I'm adding one or two more photos which might help show what I'm trying to do. Obviously none of the buildings are finished yet and I've still got more to make.

  3. This is my first venture into '0' gauge modelling so I thought I would share my experiences with you, I have just retired my last layout, Haymarket Cross' from the exhibition circuit after six years and thirty plus shows. I am trying to make the layout as easy as possible to move when I start taking it on the road.

it measures 20' x 2' and will have three scenic boards 4'x 2' & two fiddle yard boards with traversers 4' x 2'.

    Here are my first photos

This time I have started with the scenics as I'm finding everything so much bigger than 4mm, I have found a really good source of textured brick which looks really good. I have also decided to use Foamex for building which is both light and strong and when glued together with Pipe Cement I get a permanent bond.

  4. I'm as mystified as others about the identity of the loco.

I've just had a look at Dad's catalogue and am certain it was taken in January 1968 as I know the dates for the photos taken just before are correct.  Also he only had one camera then and always numbered the slides as soon as they came back from the processor.

I've also just dug out my B/W print of the same train, I also have it noted as January 1968.

For some reason though I have it as D9013, The Black Watch, so either Dad or I wrote down the wrong number.  However the nameplate is wrong for D9013.

I've tried enlarging the loco part of the image, below.  The black and white one is no better.

    Hi,

looking at your photo the loco looks like D9000, the reason for my thinking this is the front of the loco. After the spotlamps were removed in 1961 the areas were plated over and new step holes positioned in middle bottom of front/rear but unlike the rest of the class which had oval corners the oblong cut out on D9000 has square corners.

    Hope this helps

  5. Details of the paper supplier would be useful and are you going to start a thread on this layout? or  if you have could you please post a link.

    Thanks

Many thanks for your interest in my layout, I will be starting a thread on it shortly. I just need to get on a bit further on with it so I can get some more photos then I can add them.

    Thanks

  6. Can anyone suggest a source of 7mm '0' gauge roof tiles, I have seen Slaters do them as an embossed sheet and I have used some York modelmaking ones which I feel are a fraction to big. Other than these I'm struggling to find any more, I need them for some terraced houses I'm scratch building where I need enough for a run of around 2400mm.

    Cheers

  7. As promised I attach some photos of my scratch built '0' Gauge North Eastern style works building, I have modelled it on one I took a photo of at Malton some years ago which unfortunately is now long gone.

I still have work to do on it, I'm waiting for some chimneys arriving and I need to paint it and weather it all of which is new to me!

I'm most impressed with the textured and coloured brick which cost me £1-50 per A4 sheet, in my opinion great value.

I will post some more photos once I've got the chimneys fitted and painted.

  8. Thanks for the info Allan,

I've had a look at what they do which is similar to Scalescenes which you download and print off. The brickwork I'm talking about isn't downloadable but is available in sheets, the big thing with this range is its like Slater's brick plasticard but is completely finished with no painting required, its fully textured

I haven't seen it but a friend who was at the Thirsk show in early August met the guy who does it and was most impressed with the finished product, unfortunately he forgot to get the guys details.

  9. Many years ago our club in Scarborough build a scale model of Scarborough Station which did a few shows. It eventually left the club and went to Pickering where it languished for years before moving to Bridlington pending a rebuild. Unfortunately this didn't materialise and it then moved to Norfolk to be owned by the chairman of Scarborough football club. He has since moved back to East Yorkshire and now lives near Driffield. He has joined our club and has brought the layout into the clubrooms where he is rebuilding it in the hope it will be able to attend at least one of our mini shows at Pickering station this year.

As soon as I have more information I will let you all know.
