  1. My house - built 1875 - NE UK Tynemouth - is exactly as the above but all above ground pipe is now plastic, replaced when we moved in. The bath, shower, wash-hand basin (3 pipes rather than two). drain into a plastic hopper as indicated. As a Fireman (wrong sort ) I was expected to be familiar with water-supplies so I can vouch for the sketch being accurate in my area, and I believe common in this country. However, as built many homes did not have water above the ground-floor, not even hand basins, so this layout would have been established by plumbers before and after the war, depending upon how posh the area was. I mention this because I often see terraces modelled ( or purchased ready to plant) with full plumbing on a model based around the turn of the century... Also, with my pet-hate - white window-frames, etc. Tony.
  2. Sounds good to me! Although I am ignorant of the prototype. I do like your attention to detail: starting, under load, etc. I think this one might be popular... Ideal for micro layouts. :-) Tony.
  3. It's interesting how often illuminated models show off their interiors when night-illumination would be rare - ruining the signalman's night-vision - A sacking offense I would have thought? Posted in ignorance. Tony.
  4. It's a stunning piece of work and I've shared my highest accolades earlier, but I'm curious regarding how much of the non-railway buildings and infrastructure are planned - if, indeed, such development is considered? Tony.
  5. There's nowt so bad that it can't get worse! :(

  6. http://www.beano.com/retro-beano/general-jumbo A great favourite of mine! Tony.
  7. Magnificent! There seems to be support(?)-members on the roof-vents; are these to be capped? Tony.
  8. I'll take that as a *no* regarding the platform brick courses.
  9. Are the brick-courses beneath the platform edges new additions? (apologies if I've missed a previous mention) Tony.
  10. Wha-? (shudder) ;-) But an admission. As a nine-year-old (1957)the Must Have list for Hornby Dublo owners was: an A4, a Duchess, a Castle, an 0-6-2 tank, and a 2-6-4 tank. That was a "full house". I never got further than the 0-6-2 tank, which pretty much tells you why I model today. Anyway, a while back,in my local model shop, I saw a dead cheap, unboxed, chipped Hornby Castle for £35 quid and I bought it. And once in a blue moon I stick it on a Pullman, and - it looks so bloody elegant that one can almost forgive GWR modellers for being GWR modellers... - duck! (No, not you, Duck) Tony.
  11. Given all that wonderful stock ready and waiting in the fiddle-yard and all the work you've done, you deserve to enjoy it quietly, alone, enjoying your layout and your memories. Tony.
  12. Hi Shaun, I do like this varied detail stuff. Going beyond the modelling itself it helps to give us a picture of all you're up to. Keep 'em coming! - Time permitting of course. Tony.
  13. Followed links to both creatures: the widow is something of a cliché of its kind - bloody nasty! - but I hadn't heard of the other. Be glad you don't have the Oz tunnel-web spider that lives down the WC, poised to sting yer sphericals... Otherwise, dodgy wiring was a common source of domestic fires, quite apart from the potential shocks, and wiring sockets from the lighting circuit is really dumb. BTW, what voltage do you use? Its like a dream to me that I heard it was substantially less than our 240v, but I might be imagining it. Anyway, well done on the progress. Oh, and you caught me out again, your closing code being - somehow - miles away from your text, so I got caught in the middle!. Can you see it like that, or is it just in quoted responses? Whatever, I had to copy/paste/cut so that I'm not in your text... lol! Tony.
  14. Some extensive video would be really nice, without waiting for the inevitable BRM DVD. Tony.
  15. I've been pondering for several days over an appropriate response to the structures-layout that let us appreciate the work done so far. Quite apart from the excellence of the modelling, there is one major factor that impresses me most: - most of us would have been mentally crippled by the shear immensity of such a mass of work, lying out in front of us for year upon year - with never a train run! Even if we have lengthy projects, they are broken up into "get something running" bites, thus enthusiasm is fostered; but with your work, it is only by putting everything together in relationship that even you - no matter the quality of the drafted plans - can glimpse the entirety whilst judging the labour still ahead... Staggering! No doubt this layout will be a renowned Classic. Tony.
  16. Looks perfect! - green with envy, again... And you certainly have a lot on your hands, but it'll be a great adventure, fitting out the perfect home. Regards, Tony.
  17. You reach greater heights with each model, Jon. The tank-detail is really something to be proud of. And reading between the lines, I think you're quite chuffed with yourself, and quite rightly! 'Don't suppose you've got a Bachmann 25 in your sights? I've two sound green ones that need fettling, so a how to article would be good. Having said which, the words **** and fan come to mind in my neck of the woods. Health issues as usual. Her ladyship's got me grafting round the clock, bless her... So, nowts getting done. I've hardly been into RMweb for ages. Take care, Tony.
  18. Forgive me *liking* stuff that's history by now, but I'm enjoying studying your layout from the beginning. Tony.
  19. Hi ray, I've just come across this mod as I go through your work - your engineering background certainly shows. Excellent advice, simply presented with nigh-on perfect photography. The gap on my Hornby Pullmans has been annoying me for some time. My curves are mainly 3' plus so the mod is not a problem. Cheers, Tony.
  20. It looks heavenly. I'm green with envy! Looking forward to when you are able. Tony.
  21. Your work is so very useful. I'll cheerfully check back when my own turntable is motorised. Currently, a winding-crank is so jerky it threatens to derail the locomotive. Regards, Tony.
  22. That is absolutely amazing! Cropped, so you can't see the top corner, only the depth-of-field steals the reality. Tony. (Sick, and sick as a parrot )
  23. Et moi, And Mythocentric (Bill) And, as I only ever considered cool cats to be a metaphor, all Cool Cat guitarists qualify! So I win the bet, and get Iain's Ovation as a prize! Tony.
