Cadents Hydrogen Plan for the North West (or wishful thinking -  I honestly don't know?)

    https://hynet.co.uk/phases/

News to me all this. I worked in and around Warrington on the gas distribution side for 20 odd years. I worked there on Conversion back in the 70's to Natural Gas. If I read the above correctly then Hydrogen produced at Stanlow will be mixed with natural gas and (perhaps) existing domestic gas appliances will not require conversion. Been there, done that, expensive and skilled labour intensive.

    This is very interesting also,

    https://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/news/19880079.new-underground-pipeline-pass-warrington/

So seemingly some new Hydrogen only pipelines are to be constructed. Perhaps to be mixed / blended with natural gas at selected existing pressure reduction stations (several around Warrington / St Helens etc (indeed everywhere urban).

Stanlow is the Essar (ex Shell) oil refinery - a huge place. Hydrogen cracked from oil perhaps ?

A pipeline was built in the late 60's from Stanlow to Warrington and on to Partington (near Manchester) which carried PFD (Petroleum Fuel Distilate) to the then new High Pressure Reforming Plants (Gas works !!!) at both places which opened around 1966/7. Natural gas saw the end of those mid 70's. I wonder if this pipeline, if it still exists / is in good condition etc could be used ?

What with HS2 / NPR (Northern Powerhouse Rail) being planned (I can't find any plans yet) to go from Liverpool to Manchester via Warrington Bank Quay Low Level it's all happening down there !!!!!!

All the above will cost many £Billions over the next 20 years or so. Can we afford it all ?

I do hope they have got their plans right. Hydrogen from (rapidly depleting oil reserves) to me ain't the way forward. But what do I know, other than like oil, North Sea Natural Gas (well, the UK's stocks) is Rapidly diminishing. Over a third of the UK's gas is from the Norwegian North Sea fields normally.

Best not to fall out with old Vladimir --- OOOPS !!!!!!! (we don't get any contracted gas from Russia though we have two bi-directional gas interconnector pipelines across the North Sea).

This tells the tale in real time, scroll down a bit to the bar graph

And again GULP !!! Right Now 28/1/2022 at 19.34 Easington Langeled (direct from Norway) and astonishingly Milford Haven South Hook (Importer LNG probably from Qatar) are supplying just under 2/3rds of the UK's gas. I've NEVER seen that before.

Also we are currently EXPORTING gas to the EU via the interconnector.  (scroll down to bar graphs on right)

Stock up on thermal underwear and wooly jumpers. (and plastic bottles !!!!!!)

    Bloody world's gone mad !!!

Quite a topical conversation around the Warrington area at present the energy crisis……I just hope that Warrington Council don’t get involved after having lost millions of pounds of residents money on an failed energy company :diablo_mini:

Far be it for me to speak for Gismorail, but I suspect he is referring to his partner's son-in-law not being a railway enthusiast, as opposed to the protagonist of the thread...

Thank you Claude that comment saves me having ask the two gentlemen to re read my comment ……oh dear did I not write the comment correctly :triniti::D

I'm afraid that, rather like Boris's parties and Sue Gray, there hasn't been much actual news about the FIA and F1 since the chequered flag of the last race. Lots of promises of a report and everyone's ideas about who should be blamed and why, but it's all typical between-the-seasons hypothesis from a meejah desperate to keep their pot boiling.

Wake me when something happens - or Lewis surfaces with a decision about his future.

 I think Lewis is like you and has gone to sleep too :punish:come on Lewis wake up and put us out of our misery

  4. My partners son-in-law showed me some of his YouTube clips and he is not a train buff in anyway shape or form but he raves about his antics. He says that if he’s having a bad day he has a quick look at one the clips and it cheers him up …..we both have his new coffee mugs so I suppose I’ve become a fan.
Think he needs to get the company that does the scanning for model railway figures and we could have him on some of the layouts:sungum:

  5. Whether Michael Masi was under pressure or not he as race director should be more up to date on rules and regulations than everyone else . What ever the position or result of the race outcome the rules were changed during the race

You didn’t mention 2020 as being similarly afflicted.

Is that because you have managed to forget it?

I think we all want to forget 2020 …..no railway /model shows just a lost year ……unfortunately age did continue :scared:

  7. Ok hello I’m still here I think ……probably in bad books as I have been reminded that I haven’t posted anything in 2021 ……..well it was a year to forget with everything that’s been going on.
So a quick update ……moved house done all the bits and bobs that are associated with ‘moving house’ like decorating and spending a fortune on furnishing……just glad the new house is a small property …I think it’s called downsizing …..now I do feel old . Chumley End is still in store, along with all the many boxes that come with our hobby, as I have still to build the new railway room but fear not plans are now in motion and having knocked down an old brick garage and a lot of garden clearance the new shed build has finally been started and Chumley End will soon have a nice new home.
I will describe the build on my other thread new home needs a shed so watch out for forthing updates

oh yes Happy New Year Everyone :sungum:

  8. Enjoyed the latest video Andy did wonder why you’d been a bit quite now we know the old cogs have been turning again ……..rust alert !!!! :boast:I think the moving of the station is a cracking idea and I like the concept of only modelling one end of the station it gives you so much more room for storage etc . Keep up the good work me old mucker :D

This is shaping up nicely. The most famous and successful driver of the era - from an ethnic minority - is holding the FIA (and thus Liberty) to ransom. Clean up your act or I walk. Masterful, Lewis!

Call me old fashioned conspiracy theorist but I think you have hit the nail on the head there Oldddudders

Have you considered dropping a siding, the one with the MHAs in - that way you have proper space for your plant to load a whole train in situ with gravel, then lengthen the siding with the JNAs to replace the lost siding.

That’s a good idea be fairly easy to undertake on the inside siding and would give you greater depth of field from both sides ….that’s a yes from me over to the builder

  11. People travelling from Britain into France have too have a valid reason to enter the country under new French restrictions……….to attend a prize gala organised by a bunch of cheats and liars does not in my opinion seem a valid reason to travel

  12. Whatever happens in the coming weeks and any possible court proceedings I reckon LH would not accept any change to the Championship outcome and hopefully Mercedes would only be looking to get a serious change and clarity to the rules and how they are implemented.
There is no doubt in my mind that the powers that be from the start of this season have been determined to make sure MV wins the drivers championship this year to stop the Mercedes and LH domination.
The corruption within the sport is obvious for all to see and the fact that there seems to be no shame and no attempt to cover it up .
There is no way that today’s events can be good for the motorsport world and I do wonder if some of sponsors will be considering their involvement on ethical grounds.
