Personally I've given up renumbering coaches as the numbers are so small and I cannot read them except with a magnifying glass. RailTec have supplied me the transfers for the ends which I can read.

Do you have the Railtec reference for those set numbers?  Can't find them on their website.  Thanks in anticipation.

TTBOMK these Glyncorrwg coaches were the only ML&Cs painted in maroon, and Dapol are not producing them in Glyncorrwg form, not yet anyway.  Note that the BTs were altered for sheep-scaring purposes with a droplight cut into the centre of the end, and an auto-trailer type bell.  Not beyond the wit of man to alter the Dapols and repaint, but there is a reluctance by some modellers to undertake this sort of project for fear of messing expensive models up and of diminishing their resale value.  I just go ahead; cut and be damned!

Were Dap to produce these coaches in Glyncorrwg form, I suspect it would lead to a few Glyncorrwg layouts.  It was a fascinating and slightly mad branch, highly suitable for those short of space, and eminently modellable!  It's rolling stock history is particularly intereting.  I've always thought it would be worth doing in 7mm, if somebody produced working wagon brakes that could be pinned down; one could indulge in some seriously realistic operating!

Does anyone know the running numbers of the coaches that made up this set?

Hope you read this. The brass dome is from Springside Models. Its DA46 Dean goods dome. It’s not cheap as it’s brass and may be a bit large. Wasn’t easy to fit either. The 247 developments pannier  dome, mentioned by James, is no good as it has a flat base.
I just couldn’t find anything else though

I'd be interested in learning more about your experiences of removing the metal dome and safety valves?

Like you I'm waiting on the corrected etches but haven't yet started on any of the other conversion work.

  4. Very conscious recent posts have hijacked Wayne's thread, but they are fascinating and maybe worthy of their own thread?  Personally, I'd be very interested in knowing how these operating practices looked pre-nationalisation of both railways and the coal industry.  For instance, I have a feeling, but no evidence, that shared Washeries may have been less common?  Anyway,   I always find a layout that follows authentic operating practices adds an extra dimension to my appreciation of that layout.

But, back to the purpose of this thread, I'm looking forward to watching this layout develop.

Beautifully observed modelling, full of atmosphere.  I particularly like the wonky fencing and the texture of the roadway but my favourite is the fella paused at the door of the pub looking down at the cat.  Superb.

If I have one criticism it's the Austin / Morris traversing the level crossing which is a bit of a modelling cliche, but that's a very personal view.  I'd love to see more of your work.

I checked again last night  and its actually a Coal engine and it was stationed at Aberystwyth, though i'm sure i've seen a photo of her at  Abergavenny ,in my defence i built her over ten years ago and a lot of locos have gone under the bridge since then,Andy.

Thanks Andy.  Looking forward to the Cambrian layout.😁

  7. Railwells excellent as usual.

I'm hoping Andy Cundick might read this thread. We had a very interesting conversation around his ex LNWR, ex Manchester and Milford now GWR DX  goods which apparently spent some time in the Abergavenny area. I was wondering where that information came from?

Gosh, well that's a positive reception!

Anniversary aside, my finger is obviously well off the pulse. Given...

E Class: 7 built, 1 preserved. 24-69 years service (primary - ultimate) with 1 operator. No major variety in detail or livery.

A/B class: c.150 built, 2 preserved. 43-84 years service with the Met and successors, also in use with more than 10 British operators (on top of the Met and District, these include the Cambrian, LNW, LSW and Midland Railways in numbers to challenge the E class; also GWR and SER and numerous private owners) and sizable use in Spain (where the other is preserved), Germany and Australia. Enormous scope for liveries and detail differences, up to and including tender conversions.

    met-b-55_026.jpg

Great fit for many of Hattons coaches and the small layouts (inc tight curves) they are spawning and supporting.

    met-23-at-quainton-circa-1933.jpg

...and especially considering Rapido is moving into the 'generic' but proto-literate space with their Minkalikes and RCH stock (woop woop!), I know which I thought made the most viable proposition. No major point to make, it's just interesting to see that my logic is so far off the money!

    A

Agree. A Cambrian loco would be very well received with a lot of rolling stock available to ride along behind it (albeit nothing RTR unless Hattons add the very attractive Cambrian livery to their future coach plans).

  9. Surprised there's been no reaction to this news, which I think is a really exciting development. If Dapol follow the same pattern of development here as they employed for their RTP signals then other company types will surely follow.

Well done Dapol! Got my order in already.

    Now, how about 4mm scale?

  10. I am a member of the SECR Society and despite the excellent resources available have also failed to answer the same question. From the very few period photos I've found, they seem to be one dark colour that looks to be dark grey / black but could be the reddish brown used by the SER and LCDR on its buildings. Unless I find evidence to the contrary, I'm going to use a very dark grey (like Maunsell wagon grey) but I'd be interested in hearing about your Plan B.

  11. My Manor, 7800 Torquay Manor in unlined GWR green with the GWR shirtbutton on the tender arrived on Saturday last but my first opportunity to test it was this evening.  Like its stablemates, the Mogul and the Prairie before it, running was exemplary straight out of the box using a very basic Gaugemaster Combi controller.  My test track includes reverse curves and crossovers all of which were taken in its stride.  In fact, running was so good, I couldn't help double heading it with both the Mogul and Prairie and watching them glide through the pointwork was a joy.

A careful examination of the model showed it to be in perfect order with none of the issues reported elsewhere on this forum. Dapol's packaging oozes quality.

I have one minor criticism and that is the too shiny "brass" safety valve cover but then plated plastic will never look like the real thing. I'll tone it down with some Matt varnish, which worked very well on the Prairie.

This is another cracking model from Dapol.  Well done.

And yes, I also have an Accurascale model on order.  Can't have too much of a good thing...

  12. ...And like all previous Minerva locos ran beautifully straight out of the box. It weighs a ton and I think will have more haulage capacity than I am ever likely to need.  Well worth the wait and extraordinary value for money IMHO.

Need to get the books out now and spend a few enjoyable hours deciding which number to model.

  13. Round Robin note from Chris yesterday to say my Teddy was on it's way - I ordered when they were announced - and thanking everyone for their patience. It arrived this morning, no time to open it before work so looking forward to playing trains this evening.

In the Pocketmags app, display your library. You should see three vertical dots to the right of the issue title, below the thumbnail of the cover. Tap on this, should display a menu with "delete" as an option.

N.B. iPad; Android may be different…

Thanks, I have tried that and downloaded a "new" copy and whilst the page order has been corrected, the Hornby Duchess video still isn't playing.  I've also tried to view it on my laptop using the Pocketmags App and it wouldn't play that way either.   All the other videos play without issue.  Can I ask, have you tried to play that video and did it work?
