For those in the know- this is the new bridge that carried the line from Green Lane into Cammell Laird shipbuilders. If you follow the curve, it looks like it goes into 2 tunnels- any ideas?

Thanks very much for this info guys!

HI All
Would the 16T mineral wagons have been the main method of carrying coal on these lines through the late 60's and 70's? would MGR's ever have featured?
Thanks in advance

Afternoon all!
Does anyone have any info/pictures of this box, please? I'm researching this section of the Birkenhead to Chester line, and I would like some more info, if I can find it- I think it used to be next to the bridge over Bebington Road, but I'm not sure...….

Thanks Bill- most helpful as always!

Yards 1.pdf
Found recently a clip of this pic, going down to Shore road- at top left of the pic, a twin track covered portal, that goes down the length of the line- any ideas what these were for?
-
Quick question for the experts on this line- I have been putting quite a few pics together of this line, from Bidston end to Rock Ferry- some are fab, but I can't publish them on here, as they are copyright (shame really as some are of Birkenhead Town station, and the installation of the tunnel flyovers, and the road decks being up over the Docks line- They also show how big the marshalling area opposite Cammell Lairds was!
MY question- I have seen a couple of pics on HEA's being brought up from the docks, and in one pic, one of the HEA;s is derailed- I know this site may be hard to trace, but does anyone have a link for it please?
Many Thanks,
Dean

Thanks for that info

To clarify- the trackbed to the left of the semafore signal to the left of the’40. Green Lane station buildings beyond. Dean
-
Just noticed this- the trackbed behind the signal post behind the Class 40- did that ever carry track? The building directly behind it seems to be Green Lane Low Level.
Also, I found another image of Monks Ferry station in my files- maybe useful if anyone is planning a layout?
The third image has to be one of my favourites, although it was taken up at Hooton, where the Heath Lane sidings once stood- a '40 on an Octel tank trip from Amlwch.I did have another black and white image of one of these '40s coming up from Spital, on the up goods- not sure where that has gone though!
And finally, Freight on the Up Fast heading towards Rock Ferry- I think it maybe a Black Five? I'm not sure, I know someone will have the answer!

Pre November 1967 when Woodside closed but post 1957 when the BR signal box opened.
Post 1971 - after decimalisation evidenced by the price of £11.40 but not far after as the Euston - Glasgow electrification is still under way
Amazing mate- thanks a lot- when did these waiting rooms go, when Woodside closed? The lifts too?

Do you want me to post the other officials I have ?
yes please, that would be cool

I have some others of the dock system, again hidden somewhere, including a 47 on a rake of HEA's where one of them is derailed, and a '45 on a diverted football special, stopped at Green Lane!
I found this by chance on Google last night- at the other end of the docks branch- Shore Road depot (unsure of the date though!)

Thanks so much for these, mate- I did have the one of the green DMU at the platform- no idea where it went! Also, some of Green Lane/ Blackpool street after some of the lines had gone- no idea where they are either! I have no intention of publishing them, they are firstly, to answer a question, and secondly, for my own archive. I am interested in Local rail history, and sad to say its demise over the last 60 od years!

I don't know if this is what you wanted, but here's a few of Rock Ferry I have to hand.
I know not where I found most of them - if anyone objects to them being posted here, I'll remove.
The first two were taken by a friend of mine in 1966/67. I have his permission to use them as I want, but I'll refrain from plastering his name all over the web, as he didn't give me permission for that!

Hi Guys, just wonder whether anyone can help with this?
I have been asked by someone about pics of Green Lane Junction, and Rock Ferry station when all platforms were in use- I had some of when the Up Chester platform had all its buildings and the staircase up to the booking hall- does anyone on here have a few that they would be willing to post on here please- I cant find any of my old pics of these areas!
Thanks in advance

HI ,
This may apply to any local experts who may be able to help. The area that Bache station now occupies, I have been told, was once a coal yard. I had a quick look at 2d53's website, and there are weekly trip workings from the depot to the coal yard. I had heard that it ceased to be a functioning coal yard at the end of the 60's, and became a bit of a goods yard instead, supplying builders merchants, up until its' closure in the 1970's. Can anyone shed some light on this, please?
Thanks,
Dean

Crantock Sidings are attached to the mainline. They were once bigger than this, so a small signal box was put in to control them, and a short crossover on to the Helston Branch to enable stock movement, and traffic from the factory at the back of the station. Once the Helston branch was closed, and the up line from Redruth, it was taken out of use. The factory sidings are now controlled by ground frames. I have completed the building, and am almost finished weathering it...……..

If you have DCC to the tracks to control the trains, you can operate the points and signals any way you want:
- Manually
- Wire in tube,
- memory wire
- motorised (solenoid, 'stall' motor or servos) wired to individual switches
- motorised with a separate accessory control bus (e.g. Merg CBus)
- motorised and controlled by DCC accessory decoders.
Thanks Ian, I will download it now...………..

Hi
Looking really good....
Some nice details well executed......
Cheers Bill
Thanks, Bill
nice to hear from an experienced modeller such as yourself! I've seen loads of locations this has happened to in the North West and beyond, where everything has been left to decay- This will mirror that philosophy that BR seemed to have then. I'm not experienced with DCC, so I've a question- can you just run the locos DCC and switch points electrically and not via a dcc controller?

Progress so far;- I have purchased the Skaledale, "Butterley" station building from ebay, and renamed it and carried out some slight alteration and weathering ( although it doesn'nt need much!)
I have almost completed the island platform building (ex-Metcalfe) and weathered it accordingly. As you can see, it has been affected by neglect, and some local vandals; The island platform has been made from 15mm architrave, cut to shape, and infilled with cardboard, and then Metcalfe paving and edging strips. The brake van is merely shown here for scale. Ill finish detailing and painting the canopy stanchions at a later date
2 more image the broken canopy panes, and the forlorn platform 2- still displaying travel posters put up by the station staff, and the " Closure Notice that went up before the Helston branch closure!
