  1. Interesting  to note that the above pic of Mrs Peel must be a publicity shot, in the actual episode ( there's a 4 minute clip on YouTube) she's tied longitudinally to the rails and the train (spoiler alert!!) passes on the adjacent line. Presumably ABC thought a nicely posed photo of a trussed up Diana Rigg would pull in the viewers - I couldn't possibly comment...

For those who wish to relive or reenact the scene, the Stapleford Miniature Railway still operates occasionally, complete with a blue plaque to mark the spot of Mrs Peel's near demise - next one I think is August Bank Holiday.

  2. This is a really interesting thread, especially as yesterday, a secondhand Sentinel arrived in the post from Hattons. I've always worked in OO until now The original plan was to acquire further bits on an 'as and when' basis, but I'm absolutely captivated by the size and weight of the thing, so doubt I'll be able to wait that long! Looking forwards to watching it develop.

Look forward to seeing the loading shed develop.

I don't suppose you had a camera with you? I went on the boat trip a few years ago but there must have been a lot more to see back in the early 70s!

Sadly not, the only real bits I remember were how huge everything was compared to the Grand Union back home and someone in an old style diving suit, huge brass helmet etc, working at one of the locks, looking like someone out of a Jules Verne story. And the bunch of girls from Skelmersdale...
