More Austerities on the S&C.
There are photos in "Settle and Carlisle Steam Finale", Michael Welch published by Runpast.
Photos are:
WD 90243 northbound Covhops at Dent, 5th June 1966. The loco spent most of its life at two sheds, Wakefield and Royston after a spell on the Western Region.
WD 90464 on sheeted anhydrite wagons heading south approaching Aisgill, 15th September 1959. It was one of the batch purchased by the LNER and spent much of its time shedded at Thornton Junction and then St Margarets. Later it moved to Sutton Oak shed near St Helens.
Hope this is some use.

I think Marsden Rail DVD No 27 Settle and Carlisle has some clips of Austerities on the S&C.
At the moment I cannot lay my hands on my copy to check, but perhaps someone else wil know.

Chris really! -most people are not that stupid - Hornby sell DVT's that a 'toy end customers' could mistake as a locomotive. Remember the original Triang Railways R156/R225 Southern EMU powered and dummy driving cars the desciption dummy or non-powered on the box does ensure mistakes are minimised
There are lots of examples of dummy locotives both British and Overseas models; maybe I should start a thread for RMwebbers' to list them!
XF
From time to time I help a friend with his trade stand at exhibitions.
Several times a day one of us has to persuade a potential purchaser that some American locos are dummies. Some people actually haven't believed me until I have taken the loco to a layout to prove it doesn't work!
So I think there could be a problem with British outline, especially as people who are not really interested in railways don't often purchase American outline models.
My apologies to Xerxes for choosing his post as the one to quote, it was the one I read first on this theme.

Along with what look like tipplers behind.. Any ideas on the wagons at the rear?
I suspect more sheeted 16 tonners from looking at the original scan - but the slide was fading badly....

Here we go again, there I am buying one of these super locos thinking what a superb model Hornby have given us only to find (according to our Rmweb experts) I,ve bought a bum steer! Why do Hornby (and Bachmann) keep producing models that are 'wrong'? I for one thank Simon Kohler & his team for yet another great model, for me its just what I want. With a little light weathering, driver/fireman & working loco lamps it will fit in perfectly on my layout.
Can I suggest in future to avoid errors been made by the above manufacturers our Rmweb experts contact them to 'put them right' when producing new models. I look forward to the comments on the new B17 when it finally arrives.

It's a long thread so you may have missed post #78 which has a photo showing the two different types of smokebox door fitted to members of this class. LNER locos are never simple (almost as bad as "my" company - Midland Railway!).

I remember watching some shunting in 1967 at Horton in Ribblesdale. It was an up goods hauled by an 8F, the train was left on the up main line while shunting was carried out. 2 photos below showing wagons "parked" on the main line, the other photo shows the train engine on the up line shunting as a freight passes on the down line.
I've also had a look in my 1960 Sectional appendix, there appears to no mention of NOT this method of shunting.
By the way the capacity of the down refuge siding at Den tis given as 43 wagons plus engine and brake van. The up refuge siding is given as 30 wagons plus engine and brake van.

Hi Mike,
There are colour photos of Dent in the 60s in one of my flickr sets, in this case at: http://www.flickr.co...57626236485270/
You need to look in the set "Settle and Carlisle Dent..." (fourth one along in the top row).
Hope they may be some use.

Edited to correct spelling - I blame my keyboard.

How about this - £60 for a Wrenn R1 repainted in a strange imaginary Southern livery with the wrong number? I'm slightly confused by this.
It might be meant to be the SECR (South Eastern and Chatham Railway) First World War grey livery which lasted up to 1923. But it would not have been lined.

And I've just remembered these.
Diver Mr Everett of the Civil Engineers Department, British Railways, Barrow - in - Furness about to inspect the Great Central Railway Bridge over the River Trent at Wilford, Nottingham. The examination took place every 3 to 6 years.
Again taken by Dad,in 1953.

Nice bit of patch painting and a fitted jobby with 2’ 0†Dowty’s
Image needs flipping horizontally though David.
And from Davids Flikr sets
Edit; Just noticed in the last link, the 16 tonner next to the loco has cleats on each visible panel and side door, (Strings still attached.) so must have been manufactured or modified with tarpauling use in mind...
Porcy
Porcy,
Many thanks for pointing out the image was the wrong way round, it has now been corrected - I never noticed it was wrong when I first scanned it! It looks better now, much more like Toton in fact! Perhaps in its original form I should have titled it Toton reflections.

PS The editor available from flickr works well and saved re uploading it!

Any of Gresley's corridor coaches with Gresley bogies. But it must be clean and freshly painted/varnished inside.
I always found them much more comfortable than Mk1s when I travelled by train to school.

Are these any use for the stone colours? I know the tunnel is more than a bit distant.
