  2. Reading all this about the continual spiral of prices I'm glad I don't have a wife, ex-wife, partner, kids, grandkids etc., etc., was born a baby boomer, was able to get a decent job when I left school, was able to build up a reasonable pension pot over the years and retire at age 55...... and after paying income tax, council tax, utilities, running a car and food etc. all the rest can go on model trains......bliss :senile:

  3. I gave in and bought an early crest version while we have some left!  It's........fantastic, far better than I expected.  Now I just need to concoct a story as to how it got onto the Southern region!

    Neil,

It got lost just after leaving Liverpool Street and ended up on the East London Line at Shoreditch......I'm sure I saw one on the pick-up freight at Mottingham on the Dartford Loop Line......

  4. Also appeared on the HobbyShop at Faversham website......as well as a 31B March K1 which was what I was also waiting for.....

Normally visit the HobbyShop once a month to empty out my "box" and, so far this month, Harvey tells me that there's only red boxes in the box. What a turnround!!

  5. Have just been looking at the Liliput 2015 New Release List and see that they are releasing some ex-Zillertalbahn 2-axle coaches that ran or are running on the Welshpool and Llanfair. Details are:

    L344360   2-axle Coach C569 (ex-B25) in green livery

    L344361   2-axle Coach B27 in brown livery

L344362   2-axle Coach B20 in brown livery (different design to L344361

Details on www.liliput.de, download the New Release leaflet and go to page 19.

If Liliput are doing some W&L coaches does this infer that Bachmann maybe announcing a W&L locomotive?

Bring on the Earl and Countess :imsohappy:

  6. Paul,

Back in September last year I pre-ordered Tillig 92600 DR #6101 which, at that time, was shown as dcc-fitted but now seems to have morphed into a sound model. A number of coaches etc. ordered at the same time have arrived so, hopefully, the sound-fitted 6101 will show up in due course. Looking at the Tillig website 6101 is shown as "nicht verfugbar" (which, hopefully, does not mean "ausverlieft") .

Years ago I did buy some DR/HSB HOm locos at the touristy shop adjacent to the booking hall of the DB Wernigerode Station which has now disappeared. One of the locos I got was a 2-10-2T but it could not pull the skin off a rice pudding. I think they may have been made by KeHi.

The Tillig 2-10-2Ts are showing on the Tillig 2015 New Releases at a price of Euros 399.00 (against Euros 365 for the sound-fitted 6101) but no reference is made of a dcc or sound-fitted 2-10-2T. Fingers crossed that Tillig decide to do a sound version.

  7. Paul,

When at the Dortmund InterModellbau last year I stopped by the Tillig stand and had a long and interesting conversation with the guy on the stand - he spoke impeccable English.

Ended up buying some Harz HOm coaches on the stand and was able to use my new Post Office Eurocard to pay in Euros - they were the only stand I visited who were able to process the card. Most impressed.

  8. The white does seem rather prominent on the boiler bands on the website picture - much more so than on the D11 Marne in lined LNER green  livery recently produced for Model Rail by Bachmann.

Fingers crossed that when the C1 appears the finish will be very similar to the finish on Marne....... 'cos I like the idea of a matched C1 and D11 doubleheading a train of Pullmans   :imsohappy: .

Hat, coat and all that :thankyou:

  9. My blue & grey 4-VEP was delivered today whilst I was out. Just unpacked the box and notice that the outer cover has a little white sticker with the manufacturer code "SK101". Bit of a surprise - wonder where these models have been for the last few months?

Hope to get the set out on the track tomorrow.

    Merry Christmas,

Got the unit out on the track today and pleased to advise all running well at the moment.

Decided to fit a Lenz Standard+ decoder which seems to work well.  No jolting and juddering like the original dcc-fitted releases that I got when the models were first released a year or so ago.

  11. Chris, this is a fantastic thread with some great pictures and other information following. Back in 1966 I headed to the Far East  and when I look at the dates on the photos I always think back to where I was on those dates.

The date of August 9th, 1966 was two days after I left the UK on the P&O ship "Chitral" on my way to Hong Kong so on the 9th was probably bobbing up and down in the Bay of Biscay on the way to Gibralter.

Have you, by any chance, got any pictures of Lowestoft? My grandfather was a fitter at Lowestoft Shed with his house overlooking the run-in to Lowestoft Central Station so I have to blame him for my interest in trains.......

Looking forward to seeing some more great pictures.

  12. Having collected my TTS P2 a week ago I've been gently running in the loco. After a few days it was given a rake of Hornby Teaks to see what it could do. At speed the loco sailed along and listening to the "passing chime whistle" was sheer bliss.

    Problem, as has been reported by others, was the juddery performance at slow speed both when starting and stopping. Tonight after fettling some track where the P2 was derailing entering one set of points (and was the only loco derailing on that point) it was decided to change a couple of the CVs as mentioned by Hornby (CV151 to 255 and CV152 to 1). The result was amazing - the juddering had 99% disappeared and to prove it I ran the loco and train around the fiddle yard with the loco just moving;

    post-586-0-14675100-1414616197.jpg

Second time round the track it was magic watching the loco crawl through the pointwork with no juddering whatever:

    post-586-0-15343600-1414616218.jpg

Result, one happy bunny. Now to change the same CVs on my DoG.

    Keith

PS: It was not the fault of the loco derailing on the point - it was due to my tracklaying. As I laid the track there was a short section of track just before the points shown in the picture. The far join on that short piece of track was a little rough and was causing the tender to bounce up and down just as the front of the loco was entering the second point - the vibrations from the tender then caused the loco to ride up on the track just as it was entering the curve. Answer was to move the short piece of track further down the running line to give the loco a smooth ride into the points.... Simples...but frustrating trying to work it out!!

  13. I have just received this fast and responsive communication from Roco,

" The Android App can be slow or sometimes have an app -stop, if the locomotive  collection exceeds more than 50 locos. We are engaged to patch this bug with the next app update and ask for patience in this context. Thank you for your understanding in advance"

So a promising outcome to the problem I may encountered. Whether they mean a total of 50 locos or 50 per layout it is not clear but as I have 17 layouts made up and most have an average of 22 locos per layout, [ I take it to mean per layout ,so a little ambiguous meaning perhaps], these layouts do have duplications. I do have a 3 figure number of locos built up over the years but not 374!

I had the same problem of the system closing down on me after I had loaded a largish number of locos on the locomotive settings page. Contacted Gaugemaster who said that they had not heard of the problem and contacted Roco but got no response.

As it happens I was off to Germany earlier this year to attend (amongst other places) the InterModellbau in Dortmund where Roco had a Z21 Stand. I cornered the Z21 Specialist and with the help of his younger assistant tried to explain the problem being encountered. At first all I got is that the blurb that the system can take 9900 (or whatever) addresses but finally my message got through and it was suggested that to stop the system shutting down I should go through my locomotive settings and only mark as "Active" the locos that I was only using on that session. This I did and the problem of the app shutting down disappeared.

A couple of months ago I finally got an e:mail from Roco referring to my original e:mail (sent more than 6 months earlier) saying that a system update will be made soon to solve the problem.....

My worry now is how to do a system update without losing all the data stored on my Android phone. Its great people telling you to export the data somewhere, download the update and then import the data back onto the phone but not having done anything like that before I would like to see some written documentation telling me (who is certainly not a technical whizzkid) exactly what to do.

It would also be nice to get some e:mail updates on what enhancements to the system are made. I thought I registered for this when I first bought the system but no such information has been forthcoming.

  14. Glad I managed to visit the line when I did.

Fantastic trip, only downside was that the train was scheduled to return to the base station just as the SNCF train to Grenobles was leaving. The connection could have been made as the train stopped outside the station for a few minutes during which time the SNCF train arrived and departed......

If I remember correctly I think a part of Connex was involved in operating La Mure at the time.

Also purchased a rather thick (and expensive) hardcover book on the history of the line from the railway bookshop at the top of the line.

  15. Hi Keith

Well well now there's a surprise - fitted with a Loksound Select !  - will have a look at the manual/Loksound site.  Have you run it, are you happy with the sound quality/functions etc ?

    Thanks for the info

Not sure if it is still the case ?, but with the Select your stuck with whatever sound/s are loaded, like em or not, as it's not possible to reblow it, apart from perhaps a complete sound file from the ESU website via a Lokprogrammer, and these are mainly for American locos.

    Regards

    Ken

    Hello Ken,

Just had 37418 out on the track and after a few circuits round the track pleased to advise that all seems ok. The sounds are good and, as far as I can tell, are in the same league other standard fitted Bachmann sound locos...... presumably a standard ESU LokSound sound decoder. It's streaks ahead of the Bachmann "Sound-Value" decoders used in their American locos (of which I've got a couple).

Pic of 37418 before it started it's test run:

Must try to find the other Mk.2 Tourist Coaches so can see how 37418 performs on a six coach train.....and maybe more if I can find the older Lima Mk.1 Tourist Coaches as well. Now, where are those boxes :scratchhead: .

In the meantime it's a nice warm sunny day down here in the far south east corner so it's out to the garden to deal with some more weeds... :imsohappy:
