  1. Yes, P.G. Wodehouse's writing is superb in the Jeeves & Wooster series

But Fry & Laurie play their roles brilliantly, as do the other actors. The series is also wonderfully directed and filmed.

Which was only found wanting when the £2 trillion estimate, submitted to the management for a faithful recreation of Noo Yok in the 1930's, was politely rejected.

  2. If adopted, the trucks in these conveys would not all be going to the same destination anymore than the goods in a conventional goods train are/were.

Three trucks collecting goods from, say the London area for delivery to Manchester, would be linked up merely for the motorway part of the journey. Grouped together north of London, going their own way after arrival on the outskirts of Manchester.

    .

Surely the checking, coordinating, marshalling crewing activities required at the termini would be as complex as putting containers on and off railway wagons.

  3. I think a projection of 5 feet only 9" deep could be constructed to self support. There would be steel beams inside perhaps 8" deep, clad with light weight panelling in polymer coated sheet steel, or composite materials. The length along the frontage of the building doesn't matter.

Don't forget to consider how the rain will be directed away from the pedestrians. In a model, that detail will be very visible.

  4. There have been a few threads on superlatives recently, and I'm going to start another.

Which town or city in the UK has the greatest number of Railway Stations per capita of the population?

For this to be meaningful, London, Brum, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow are excluded, not because they are big, but they are really conurbations and defining boundaries is difficult and will lead to arguments.

My first shot is Falmouth. 3:- Docks, Town and Penmere. Population 21,797 (2011 census), one per 7,266 people.

    GO!

  5. I think some people just object because they can. It's one of the few areas in which people think they have power.

On the G/WR, when running through Bishop's Cleeve, there is no station, and the trains always seem to slow down to around 10mph. I assume this is to minimise noise for the local residents-can anyone confirm?

The Bishops Cleeve section is notorious for vandalism and fly tipping. That's why there is no station.
