  1. is going home! watch out the North! :D

  2. It is possible that the set of points illustrated are only used when entering the platforms. there are a signals in place at lime street which are part way down the platform.
  3. Really? have you not got it yet? the basic rules and regulations of signalling have not changed since teh 1800's and are still in use today.
  4. I have seen it done. don't get me wrong. and I accept local instructions at some locations may allow it. but by the good book in general its not done practice.I don't want to bog the thread down with the ins and outs of signalling which wont add anything to the operation of the layout.
  5. regardless of it being block or home. permissive working rules still applied.yes there may well have been a local instruction.
  6. I can tell you now the loco would of only moved up to the signal on the authority of the signaller in the first place as permissive block regulations(platforms) apply. which in plain English states once a train has come to a stand in a permsive worked section. or has split for the purposes of providing two trains or removal of loco. no portion shall move with out the express permission of the signaller as another train may be signalled to enter the section. i too saw the layout on Sat at Ally Pally. just glad that i can see over most heads.
  7. If you put a security hut by the gate then a barrier arm leaving the gate in situ then the stop markings could well be correct.
  8. What do non modellers know eh? the rest of us just wish we didn't suffer from fat thumbs....or other complaint to produce such work. excellent as usual Ron.
  9. I broke my Talus and calcaneus in march. i was off for 3 month! six weeks your lucky. oh and i had an air cast and had to take it off at night. ended up sleeping the spare room as my wife kicks in here sleep. couple of weeks in and you'll wonder what all the fuss is about really. oh i'm back at work now driving trains and the doctors says my break will never heel.

The day and night healights on all uk stock are angled slightly differently. teh Day light is straight ahead to provide maximum daylight visability to track staff. the night light is angled slightly down and to the left. to give a clearer view of the track and of line side signs in the dark. FGW only use one headlight at a time usually with the only opertors using both generally found on the East coast mainline.
  11. It doesn't really matter if all the pipes including the jumpers are hooked up. It was to make sure everything worked on the loco not its all out pulling power. these tests were to make sure they'd go and stop when they should.
  12. With regards loco moves on the north wales. it was also traditional for crewe works to put refurbished locos on teh run to bed them back in before returning to their own region. one that springs to mind imediatly are the 47/7 shove duffs.
  13. With regards the lighting may I suggest day light bulbs and tubes?
  14. It adds more realism to the earthworks as its never smooth.

Wasn't that rare. what ever locos are available go with what ever coaches are available.
  16. Balsa is an extremely porous wood. next time you may want to try sealing the wood before ballasting.

  19. I have a quick question. I plan to model a real location however space constraints mean a couple of extra curves will be required. Doe sthis mean i still get to be in the group?
