  1. A walk has been walked in the sunshine and a mile and a quarter managed today without mishap or being blown away as it's still quite breezy out. The Boss has just gone to visit a friend but I suspect she'll be back very shortly as I've just had a phone call from said friend trying to put her off as her daughter has Covid. Having spent 38 years in the building trade I can confirm that scaffolders and roofers are a breed apart and you should certainly take care in your dealings with them. I've had a couple or several run ins over the years, mainly disagreements about the fact that we weren't a self service organisation and you came and paid for the stuff before you got loaded by our staff. Back in the early 70s, before the current H & S culture a friend who was a scaffolder and his mates made The Evening Standard doing a balancing act on the tubes they were erecting around the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral. Absolute nutcases, all of them!
  2. Good morning all, Dry start and not as windy as last night. It's a bit dull but looks as though things will brighten up with some hazy sunshine. Mild at 9°C rising to 12°C. A quick scan of the garden has revealed nothing amiss, turned over, torn or blown away. Spent the evening listening to some music and watched a film, "The Great Escaper" with Michael Caine, Glenda Jackson and John Standing. Loosely based on the true story of a 90 yo D-Day veteran who "escapes" his care home to visit France for the 70th anniversary of the landings. I found it very enjoyable and quite moving in places. It was Glenda's last film and not released until after her death although apparently she did get to see it. Michael Caine has said that it was the last film he would make too. Today's agenda includes a walk taking in the delights of the local Asda, a visit to The Shed and an online zooming session. That should keep me occupied for a while. It's that time again so farewell for now, Have a good one, Bob.
  3. Totally agree TB. I’ve found that making rash statements about my team winning is a surefire way to see them beaten!
  4. @Sidecar Racer I saw that on the news last night Mike and was quite relieved that ours hadn't suffered the same fate. Rain has paused for now but due to start again in about an hour. Quite breezy out and the wind seems to be increasing so Jocelyn is possibly jostling for space. The Shark was wielded and I seem to be in the good books. (for now) Now thinking about lunch and instead of my usual cup a soup and sandwich I think I'll have some beans on toast for a change. Not sure what I'm doing after lunch but there are three or four options available.
  5. Stillhaven'tgottamoveon. Taking my time over another muggacoffee. Before long I expect to be chastised! Further to yesterday's post and the windy weather I did a full site inspection and as far as I can see I'm glad to say we have no roof damage and apart from upturned chairs and a couple of tears in the covers of them and the table nothing else amiss. Gorilla tape has been deployed to repair the covers but they are several years old now and have got so many taped repairs I think it's about time I bought some new ones. The ties that came off the table legs weren't broken so the wind must have been strong enough to lift the table off the ground to release them. It's a glass top table with metal legs and quite heavy. Hmmm, I'm getting a "look", I suspect that words of "encouragement" will be heard shortly! 😂
  6. Good morning all, Dull here and it's dismal and damp as well. It's been staining readily for a while and will continue to do so. It will become windier later, much windier apparently as somebody called Jocelyn is approaching. 7°C rising to 13°C. A walk was managed around our local recreation ground yesterday and a couple of small trees had been uprooted and there was evidence of a lot of tree pruning and undergrowth clearance along one side of the park. About time too as we'd noticed that some adjacent properties were being invaded by all the bushes etc. A mile and quarter was managed without too much trouble. It's two weeks since my hernia op and things are progressing well. The incision site has healed nicely with just a couple of small scabs left on either side and I can bend over easily now without any pain. Before the op I even had difficulty tying shoelaces whilst sitting on the settee or armchair but it's not a problem now. However I've still got to take things easy for a further 4-6 weeks so will have to avoid sit-ups or press ups for a while! Actually I better check on that because I believe I might have to wait even longer before I start trying any of that stuff. Hope @DaveF Dave's op goes as smoothly as mine did. Looks like we'll be staying in this morning, The Boss doesn't like walking in the rain. Camera wise mine are quite simple. iPhone 8 plus, Canon Powershot SX280HS Compact, both only 12MP and a Fujifilm Finepix S9900W Bridge 16.2MP. I do sometimes actually get some reasonable pics. I've still got a Pentax P30N SLR and every now and then think about digging it out and buying some film just to try it for old time's sake. However, having just done a quick Google of film and processing prices I think I'll give it a miss! I've just been asked if I feel able to help with some domestic tasks. I think I can probably manage to push The Shark around for a while. Ibettagettamoveon. Have a good one, Bob.
  7. Good morning all, Dull here....and so was the sky earlier but it seems to be brightening up now. Dry for now and a bright and breezy morning forecast with some blustery showers moving in later. 8°C rising to 11°C. Like most places it was very wet and windy here last night but glad to report no damage seems to have occurred. Ours and next door's bins went walkies but neighbour rescued them and jammed them all at the end of the shared alleyway between our houses. Garden table cover is off but still attached at one leg and some chairs have blown over and a couple of decorative butterflies have blown off The Shed. I'll go out and do a full site inspection after breakfast. More rugby watched and the English clubs involved were all beaten but strangely that was good thing for "my"club Quins and @tigerburnie TB's Tigers. Vera was also watched and pleased to hear the announcement that there will be a further series. I like Vera and find it quite watchable unlike many other things on TV these days. Timetogettamoveon and carry on without boring you with any more details of my dull daily routine,,...for today anyway. I expect normal service will resume tomorrow. Have a good one, Bob.
  8. Good morning all, Dull grey skies here, it was very damp earlier but not raining at the moment. Breezy out and the chance of more rain this evening. Currently 10°C. I had a lie-in too, didn't get up until 07.45. Lazy s#d. Disgusting! 🤪 The flowers yesterday must have gained me more Brownie points than I thought as I ended up watching all four of the rugby matches that I wanted to see. Three good results for English clubs and one not so much which I suspect TB @tigerburnie might agree with. Before that I managed to spend a bit of time in The Shed playing with some toys. A cooked breakfast has been enjoyed and I've even been for a walk, a mile and a half today without any problems. Now got a bit of admin work to do before rugby starts at 13.00. Three more matches today so that's me sorted although one will have to be recorded so that the Boss can "go skating. " There's also dear old Vera to watch tonight but sadly I believe this may be the last ever episode Timetogettamoveon and do something else. Have a good one, Bob.
  9. I believe this may be one of the suppliers Flavio is referring to: https://shop.train-safe.de/ IIRC correctly one or two RMwebbers used them to store things like the Rapido APT-E
  10. A walk has been walked and a mile and a quarter covered with no complaints from either The Hip or The Knee. They've both been behaving lately which is A GOOD THING. Bought some flowers for The Boss which have gone down well and some Brownie points have been banked. (And no, I haven't bought any "forbidden" items or done anything else to upset the applecart.) En route I encountered a friend from the adjacent road about to take her dog for a walk. A long chat ensued culminating with the promise of a dinner invitation in the next couple of weeks. Muggacoffee now and then I will amble down to The Shed for a while.
  11. Good morning all, Another frosty start but it's a bit warmer than the past couple of days. Grey sky but there may be some sunny spells and it should stay dry. 2°C rising to 5°C. Rugby watched last night, didn't really enjoy that one but there are 4 matches on offer today from 13.00 to 22.00. A couple will have to be recorded if I wish to carry on living. 🤪 A walk is scheduled after breakfast and I may even venture to The Shed for a couple of hours. Not done anything down there since before my op. Timetogettamoveon. Have a good one, Bob.
  12. Evenin' each, Steady sort of day here and it stayed chilly with the temperature not getting above 4°C. A walk was undertaken and just over a mile completed with no ill effects. Domestic tasks done by The Boss with me just keeping out of the way. Next door neighbour Ali popped in for a cuppa and a chinwag with us. After lunch I listened to some music for a couple of hours and somehow also managed to doze off in the armchair for an hour. Tonight there is rugby to watch as usual and a plethora of matches available over the weekend. I predict that "somebody" in GDB Towers will not be overly excited about that.
  13. Young's Brewery who used to be in Wandsworth retired their horses in 1997: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/brewer-s-dray-horses-fall-victim-to-road-rage-1256697.html However it seems that Wadworth's Brewery in Devizes are still using them: https://www.wadworth.co.uk/about/the-wadworth-shires Also the Hook Norton Brewery in Banbury: https://www.hooky.co.uk/hooky-shire-horses/https://samuelsmithsbrewery.co.uk/shire-horses/ And Samuel Smith's in Tadcaster: https://samuelsmithsbrewery.co.uk/shire-horses/
  14. Good morning all, Cold and frosty today but the sky is blue and the shine is sunning. It should stay dry with prolonged spells of sunshine. -3°C, might reach 5°C. A walk is planned after breakfast as The Boss wants to get a couple of magazines. Nothing else on the agenda apart from some domestic tasks which apparently I'm not allowed to do. I have volunteered to drive The Shark but "She" has exercised her veto claiming it's too soon after my op. Personally I don't count "Sharking" as heavy lifting or violent exercise but I suppose it is driving and I'm not allowed to do that until tomorrow! I have not objected. 😂 Glad to report that she's feeling better and it'stimetogettamoveon. Have a good one, Bob.
  15. Bright sunshine here but it's a bit chilly. Just put a thermometer outside in the shade and it's currently reading 0°C. Ocado delivery came early but he did text and ask if that was OK. Nottaproblem said I. Nice polite and friendly driver and everything was delivered to the satisfaction of Herself so a provisional order has already been placed for next week. It seems she fully intends to "give them a chance for now" so she must really be hacked off with Sainsbury's. Hmm, for now, watch this space. Muggatea now and I'm going to do a bit of "star gazing" via a further look at my Apollo Remastered book.
  16. Good morning all, Frosty here but the sky is clear and a sunny but chilly day is forecast. App says it's -5°C * and may reach 3°C. *If it's right that is quite cold for here. A peaceful night for both me and The Boss, she seems to have recovered from whatever was ailing her and already I "needtogettamoveon!!" Dentist visited successfully yesterday and the tooth has been repaired. Various neighbours are out defrosting cars, I certainly don't miss doing that at 04.45 when I used to take The Boss to work. My car will stay where it is until Saturday as I'm still obeying doctor's orders not to drive for 10 days after the op. Only one bin lorry due today and they're later than usual. We are also expecting an Ocado delivery, The Boss having kicked Sainsbury's into touch (for now). Just had a text confirming delivery is coming with no missing products or substitutions so that's a good start. The only downside is that they are a bit more expensive and also as The Boss gets a 10% discount from Sainsbury's the total bill is about 15% more than we would normally pay. Whether or not Herself will be happy about that remains to be seen but Sainsbury's have gone slowly downhill over the past few months so IMHO we will have to put up with it. I would far rather pay more if the quality of goods and service is better. There is a possibility other supermarkets will be tried out although a couple are on The Boss's "over my dead body" list due to previous tryouts (although these were in-store, not deliveries). Oh dear, things are really getting better...."YOUREALLYDONEEDTOGETTAMOVEON!!" 😂😂 Yes dear. Have a good one, Bob.
  17. Mention of young girls and guitars made me think of this, an all girl rock band (three sisters) from Mexico who have evolved somewhat. From this: To this: Lots of stuff on YouTube and they're touring the UK this year. Maybe not everybody's cup of tea but I like them.
  18. Good morning all, A light frost here to start the day along with a grey sky. It should stay dry and there may be some wintry sunshine this afternoon. Chilly (for The Land of Sutt) at -1°C rising to a high of 3°C. @New Haven Neil Great to hear your good news Neil. The Boss had an improved night, only waking once and she's feeling a bit better. Must be all the care and attention she's been receiving from the Head Nurse! 😂 I have a visit to the dentist to look forward to at midday, nothing else planned at present. Time to sort out some breakfast. Have a good one, Bob.
  19. The Boss is definitely not well as shehasnotgottamoveon, is still in bed and feeling quite sorry for herself. Most unusual as she is rarely ill. I have designated myself as Head Nurse, Chief Gopher and Whipping Boy, the latter just in case she wants to blame someone for her woes. Might as well be me, oh actually it always is.
  20. Good morning all, Frosty start but the skies seem clear. A dry and breezy day with variable cloud and bright spells is forecast. Chilly at -3°C rising to 3°C. I had a reasonable night but The Boss didn't. Tea has now been taken up to Herself who is feeling a bit under the weather. Might be just a chill, I hope it's nothing more. One small mishap yesterday and another small piece of tooth broken off so a visit to the dentist has been booked for tomorrow. Another day of doing nothing too energetic but I may go for a walk. Other than that nothing else to report. Have a good one, Bob.
  21. Good morning all, Frosty start but we have blue sky and sunshine. Forecast claims it will stay like that for most of the day. Chilly at -1°C rising to 2°C. Slow getting going today and The Boss brought me up a muggatea at 08.30 which is very late for me. Rugby watched yesterday and not really enjoyed with Bath nicking a bit of a contentious win and Leicester and Saracens getting hammered by French sides. Vera was watched but as soon as a certain actor appeared it was obvious who the guilty party was. I retired at 55 and have never regretted it. (20 years anniversary on the 31st of this month) Nottalot planned today although I have a couple of financial things to deal with. Have a good one, Bob.
  22. Good morning all, Dull start to the day here. It will stay mainly cloudy with the chance of the odd brighter spell and a few light scattered showers. 2°C rising to 6°C. I had a good night's sleep, only waking once briefly at about 04.00. The operation site is fine and apart from obviously knowing it's there it all seems to have settled down OK. Lots of rugby watched yesterday, 4 matches in fact and the best was left till last when Quins visited Cardiff and demolished them after a slightly shaky start. Three more matches available are today but one or two may be recorded for later consumption. James came and cleaned the conservatory roof. What it is to be young and fit, he did it in about a third of the time it would have taken me. Anyway, it's a good job done and he also made good a crack in the pebbledash on the front of the house. The girls returned from the shopping trip after several hours and the bride's wedding dress has been purchased for what seems to me to be an outlandish sum of tokens but hey, what do I know about such things. Apparently there will be more shopping trips to purchase stuff for the bridesmaids and the bride's mother.(Aka The Boss) I will not be shopping at all as I have a perfectly good suit for the occasion which although it's a few years old has only been worn about half a dozen times and it still fits perfectly. Tea was taken up to Herself earlier and it sounds like she is about to make an appearance. A cooked breakfast has already been promised so that's something to look forward to. After that I may go for a walk as I've been sitting around a bit too much for the past couple of days. Have a good one, Bob.
  23. Good morning all, It's now light(ish) outside and the sky seems to be somewhat grey. It will probably stay rather cloudy today although there is the chance of some brighter spells along with the odd spot of rain or drizzle. 1°C rising to 4°C. I had a reasonable and comfortable night, only woke up twice. Rugby watched and Northampton hammered Bayonne. More matches are available today. This morning Abbie's boyfriend James is coming round to clean the conservatory roof. This is normally something I would do myself but am confined to doing nottalot at the moment so as not to disturb The Incision Site. It badly needs doing as I didn't get a round tuit last year due to Ernie the 'Ernia. I will content myself with "supervising." Abbie is bringing James here and then she's taking The Boss out along with Nicki and Gemma to go on a shopping expedition. Nicki is getting remarried later this year and it seem the ladies need to go and look at/order/buy some clothes for the occasion. They may be gone for some time. Time to gettamoveonslowly. Have a good one, Bob.
  24. Evenin' each, Thanks Dave, I do seem to be quite lucky when I've had any surgical procedures and so far have never experienced any bad after effects from either the ops or the GAs and tend to recover quite quickly. I also seem to have a reasonably high tolerance to pain which helps as well. Long may it last. Ham, egg and chips tonight accompanied by a glass of Malbec which might seem strange to some but not to me. I've still got some jam sponge pudding and custard left as well as I didn't finish it last night. The Boss will be watching a soap shortly and after that I will take control of the remote and watch some rugby. I think a drop more wine is called for. Cheers.🍷🍷
  25. A'noon all. Several tick boxes have been completed. Dressing removed, it was a bit stuck so needed persuasion but I managed that with only a little bit of blood ensuing. No follow up visits should be necessary apparently as the sutures will dissolve. New door handle spring set arrived last night so that has been fitted to the front door which means we no longer have a floppy lever. Travel insurance quotes received so that has now been sorted. Just need to pay for the holiday in the next couple of weeks. Several visitors arrived to see if I was still alive OK. Tim from over the road, Ali from next door and Nicki, Joe & Gemma all turned up within a few minutes of each other so the house was a bit hectic for a while. Nice to know that somebody cares! Lunch taken at 13.00 and a bit of financial admin dealt with and now The Boss is making me a muggatea. Unfortunately there seems to be a cake shortage here so I'll have to make do with some biscuits. It's a hard life.
