Hi, I'd read that Darlington Works had its right angled roads inside the Works converted to straight roads for diesel repairs? where those of the main works actually converted or was this reference actually to another part of the works? Only the access to the main part of the works, the "Erecting Shop" was to a road which lead to a turntable inside the building from which locos were lifted from a road and placed further down the Works on a free Road?

It most definitely will not being doing that. the joining and running of a train with stock from two different TOCS...... the Norwich to Nottingham service is down to be extended to Derby and there will no longer be a through service from Norwich to Sheffield, Manchester or Liverpool (As a total aside, it made me laugh a while back when someone in the Rovers, (Coronation Street - and no I don't watch it, just happened to catch it), said, "I've got to get from Manchester to Nottingham! how on earth am I going to do that?!!!" - Well, erm it's easy! just catch the straight through train!

You cant get much more express than stopping at Manchester and Stockport only...... (the occasional peak time services also call at chinley and Dore and for some bizarre reason the last one of the day stops at al stations.

Would anyone happen to have a break down of an example CEM overhaul? was the fundamental difference between a CEM overhaul (as per the name Component Exchange Maintenance (CEM) that a loco was stripped and refitted with pre-refurbished parts, and thus back in traffic a lot quicker rather than stripping a loco and sending its parts off for repair and then re-fitment later in the overhaul process?
