  1. The only reason to go to Chester is for the Zoo which is one of the best in the world.

The other reason to go is if you're scouse (from Liverpool) and doing a pub crawl/ stag night.

    New itinerary looks way better.

BTW I took Cross Country trains from Macclesfield to Bristol on my last trip, ran on time, reserved seats are free, and necessary. It was my first ride on a proper train for over 20 years, and while its all relative, I thought the cl221 Voyager was a decent ride.

  2. So this question is just out of idle interest as I have a Z21 black and have had no issues.

What is the wlan package that has been mentioned for z21 white?

Doesn't it already come with a router?

If it doesn't then how are you supposed to use it?

  3. Remember that due to the strange map projection used in the UK Cornwall is actually 2 hours further away from anywhere else in the UK than you think.

York to Didcot is a full day drive, it would take 3.5 hours WITHOUT TRAFFIC. There's no such thing as 'without traffic' in the UK unless you want to set off at 2am.

Last time we drove from Heathrow to Manchester and back for a holiday. it took 3 hours at 11PM to get to Manchester, it took from 9am to 6pm to get back and we didn't get over 50mph on any of the motorways we were on.

Also remember its not the US. You could spend a month in London and still not have seen everything. York needs at least 3 days, probably more, most visitor attractions need at least half a day and probably more, and there are generally lots of things to do almost anywhere you stay.

DON'T return you car to Didcot, assuming you're using a major car rental company, drop it off in York and get a train to London, or wherever.

In York you have the Castle museum, the National Rail Museum, Jorvik, the Minster, Fairfax House (ala Fairfax County Virginia), and don't forget tea at Betty's which will take 15-30 minutes standing in line but it's worth it.

As others have said you're trying to see too much in too small a timeframe, Shrink the number of destinations and spend more time in each one.

  4. Sorry Terry, wrong forum OOPS!

A number of us have seen this problem. It is caused by the Shaped metal retaining clip that is under the bogie not being clipped in properly.

To fix, remove the bogie, take look down the underside of the wagon, you'll probably see that one side of the H shaped clip is slightly too high. press down hard with a small screwdriver on each corner of the retaining clip, if it isn't flush, you'll hear a small click as it fits into place.

    That should solve the problem.

  5. What do you mean with "Notepad"? The Z21 app? Or the Win_OS word processing tool? In case of the latter, it's definitely not gonna work! ;)

Key thing is to start from scratch and not to skip steps or do stuff differently due to your local network setup/needs/wisdom.

First, disconnect the whole Z21 setup from your local network. Then, perform a factory reset of both Z21 and the  router coming with it. Connect both using the supplied cable, then switch them on. Now fire up the Z21 app on your mobile, after establishing contact with the Z21 WiFi router. It should connect, if not, check if you really are connected to the Z21 router, not something else! Report back on your experiences.

    What he said.

DO NOT connect the Z21 router to your home network, the Z21 is designed to work on its own Wifi network.

Connecting to your home network is for super advanced networking people.

  6. Hi Shoey,

You'll know we are primarily focussed on the N Gauge market, and often we select models precisely because there is a legacy OO model available so it's unlikely the major manufacturers will bother producing it in N.

That's the case here; however once we have announced it in N then if the response is that we should do it in OO too then I am sure Rapido would be interested.

    cheers

  7. I have found that plugging the z21 router into my main system corrupts the DHCP within it, it has the same range as my main router. I had to do a factory reset to correct the DHCP range.

Technically it doesn't corrupt it. The Roco supplied router is smart enough to see that its pre-programmed address range is already in use so it creates a new set of addresses to use. Unless you are network savvy it's best not to connect the Roco supplied router to your home network.

  8. Hi,

Here's what you need to do

First of all I'm going to number the points to 'hopefully' make things clearer.

Point 1 is the top left point, 2,3 & 4 are the other 3 on the top most line

Point 5 is the first point on the bottom line that leads to the kick back siding and 6,7 & 8 are the points in the loops

First you need to put power to the left of point 1 AND between points 5 & 6 otherwise you won't be able to power the kick back siding.

This means that you will need to insulate between points 1 & 5

In the loop, point 6 to 8 needs insulating as does point 7 to 8, 6 to 7 can be left as is.

    Points 2,3,&4 don't need insulating.

If this is N Gauge then it doesn't matter if its DCC or DC, the only consideration being that on DC you could only run two locos as you only have 2 independent power feeds.

I have been told that for OO Peco Electrofrog points need modifed for DCC, but as I model in N Gauge, I don't have any personal experience.

    Regards,
