  1. With our weekly free rag news has to be looked for. It is full of stuff like the rights of seagulls and dogs plus leftwing politics. Phone hacking around here is people using their mobile while riding a horse.
  2. Reds under the bed and all that......We've been an island race of suspicious people for as long as I can remember but it has reached new heights (or lows) in recent years. The process of controlling the population by making them live in fear comes in many forms via the TV set. Folks of my generation see propeganda for what it is, which is innevitable considering what we've lived through. If peadophiles are such a big worry today, why now? We need to look at which liberal laws of the past led to this probability.
  3. Try Parkers for reviews and owners reviews.... http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/for-sale/search/kia/picanto-2004.aspx?type=used&maxprice=9135&minprice=2000#minprice=2000&maxprice=9135&pathinfo=kia%2Fpicanto-2004.aspx
  4. Fantastic work, truly inspirational and enough to make this bloke try harder next time! Incidentally, that last picture of three men looking for something is crying out for a RMweb caption..... Larry
  5. The mid 1980's era you chose, give or take a year or two, was to my mind the best since the early 1960's. In 1984 you would have seen the heavyweights like 40001 on Freightliner and other duties plus the 'Peaks'....Also the last of the newly-built Class 56's running-in. 1985 Class 25's of flask and the remaining 40's from the Crewe remodelling, Octel and Llandudno Junction-Warrinnton Trip workings. 1986 Class 33's on Cardiff turns followed by the first wave of Sprinterization. 1987 red-band Class 31's on freight and old ballast to Mold Juntion spoil tip, and the green Class 47's from the GW non-celebrations, red-stripe and blue-stripe Scotrail 47's running in, Blue & Grey, InterCity and TransPennine livery coaches. Also red-band Class 37's on RMC Roadstone wagons to Hope Street, Manchester. 150/2's introduced on TransPennine trains 1988 the triple-grey liveried locos and the ARC POA wagon block trains to Ashbury's. 1989 the Class 20's working spasmodic ballast and PW rail trains. Line passed for mainline steam. The above dates are not intended to indicate the commencement of a traffic flow or the end of an era. They are merely a guide as to what could be seen lineside.
  6. Someone has said (not sure where I read it) that the Tornado has a cheapo motor that may not last. This is of some concern but is something we wont discover for a while unless someone runs one to death.....any offers?
  7. I miss the everyday living transport museum that had dissapeared by 1960. And the early beefburgers full of good meat and cooked on a hot plate with onions....mmmmm
  8. The Britian I grew up in and I'm glad I did not take it was granted. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
  9. I'm sure being rich and famous is not a pre-requisite for being so far up one own backside as to lose sight of the real world. Sure, one mans stupid is another mans sensible but I do wonder if some pretentious attention seekers have thought things through. Exposing their kiddies to ridicule is not good parenting in my book.
  10. Hi Peter, I'm afraid the Class 33's never did work a freight along the North Wales coast line, unless friend Merfyn J. knows different! As good as my grapevine was, Merfyn worked trackside and didn't miss much. The only hightlights were the occasional Slim Jims.
  11. I didnt say otherwise and it wasnt the point I was making.
  12. I'm proud to say I was not aware of this and could not have answered the question to save my life.
  13. Although the Hawksworths were modern, they were not front-line stock. The GWR had built better coaches before the war. Photos show the Hawkies as go-anywhere do-anything carriages. On the basis that the final choc & creams were turned out in 1948 - 1949, (ignoring the insignia), I suppose a 4 - 5-year lifespan could be expected from the choc & cream paintwork.
  14. Reshuffled it could be Pe Rash Never....
  15. Missed......The beautiful girls when I was a boy. They're all pensioners now!
  16. Blackpool - Preston....then Preston - Bolton..... and onto the final leg.....
  17. Dangling the kids out the window was easy . The only way for adults was to prop oneself up on a seat and lean at an angle. Oh I do miss non-corridor coaches....like heck I do..
  18. BR's makeshift refreshment cars.....Usually a compartment with a railman, a plank and crates of ale for sale! Trains of newly painted blood & custard coaches passing through the landscape.
  19. I thought this shot may be in interest Peter...? A Class 33 giving the appearance of working a north Wales freight! 33033 had been taken off the 'Ffestiniog Pullman" and put with the wagons. 40106 took over for the run to Ffestiniog. A thing that modellers might note is the steep camber of the track under 40106. This line was once an avoiding line through the station but it retained its camber after becoming part of the yard sidings.
  20. That's really bad luck... I'll bet your Cocker Spaniel thought Tornado was Cocker the North.....
  21. To add to what I said earlier, I am looking at a model coach that was sprayed with Halfords car paint some six years ago. It is within the accepted spectrum for LMS lake and has also been recommended by others on RMweb.... Halford Rover Damask Red spray paint.
  22. What's wrong with me.......Slap my wrist for using a modern turn of phrase.! I also used the term Rock Group. We were simply in a "Group" and we definitely never referred to ourselves as musicians. But seeing as we are in pedantic mood, I am not Mike either!
  23. I'm sure the celebs were more down to earth in those days. While at an audition in 1960, I met Joe Brown. He wanted to come back with us but Jack Good wouldn't let him off the lot. Chatted with Billy Fury and ended up with his Biro. I'm told we shared stage with the Hollies once (they were unknown at the time). All the northern towns had rock groups around the early 60s.
  24. Apologies, maybe I should have made myself clearer. I was suggesting using Howes Railmatch as a dry sample when looking for a suitable car airosil as a match. My reasons for recommending Howes No.610 LMS crimson lake is on several counts. I obtained my lake from Derby Works 40 years ago. I supplied Howes with a sample when the Railmatch colours were being formulated. The No.610 is as close a match as makes no odds to the shade applied recently to the NRM 'Crab'. The only rider I would add is the final shade depends very much on the colour of the undercoat/primer. Use red oxide, not grey.
