  1. This morning I had an unexpected luck-in - I took some "stuff" to our local Charity warehouse - where they sort and sell items that are recycleable and usable, and found a long, narrow, night view, painting of a US city - probably NY but nothing to say it is - at 135cm x45.5 cm - (that is 53" x almost 18" in old money). It will work very well as a backscene - and at the ENORMOUS sum of £3.00 it would have been rude to leave it there - Initially I couldn't find a price so took it to the desk to ask the lady - and about 5 steps before I got to the counter, I noticed the sticker with the price at the bottom of one end! I also found one of Tom Ang's books on Digital Photography for £1.80, so that made it home chez moi also. Result!

  2. What I thought was amazing in "Manhunt" was the fact that the lassie (women police sergeant) hadn't turned up (and might, indeed, have left) to see if she could "help", there is a possibility(probability?) that he would have gone on to kill others!  Also very obvious was the rivalry and lack of "connectedness" of the various police forces, more interested in their own results and investigations,  than in catching the killer!  I have to say that I thought it was well presented, and acted,  though.

  3. Mog - many thanks - No wonder I couldn't find it - but unfortunately it looks as though Imageshack has taken all the photos down - so I'll just have to do some experimenting when it warms up! It was called Fiddlestick Yard!

EDit - now I know the name I have found it - hiding in the "RMweb archive" and also on the" RRline forum" - with the help of Google - many thanks, I shall go and peruse!

  4. I'm looking for some help - some time ago I posted a small layout with a pinkish, foggy, early sunrise/late sunset sky - the back-scene was done by spraying multiple layers of grey, over-sprayed with white from rattle cans - in a similar manner to Barry Tens "Cogirep". I need to reference something - and can't find it - part of the problem being that I probably gave it a suitable name and can't remember it! - If somebody can point me to where it is hiding, I'd be grateful - thanks for any help.

  5. That is my current thinking, a three-axle motor bogie. It will avoid cluttering up the daylight between the boiler and the engine ("drivers and cylinders") with the motor and drive and there is a coal bunker/water tank in which to hide it.

However the engine will not have a central pivot. The pivot on the real thing was on the centreline of the cylinders, presumably to facilitate the flexible steam pipe connections.

The mechanical connection from the reverser to the valve gear was routed from the top of the boiler to minimise the problems involved when the engine unit pivoted on a curve. That might cause problems on my two foot radius curves!

Ah so the silly old s*d is not quite as silly as he thought - thanks for setting my mind at rest  :senile:  [Not sure if that moves me up with "Great Minds....",  or drops you down to my level!]

  6. Probably a VERY silly question, but could you have the drive to the rear (tender-end) wheels, as a separate bogie, leaving the "drivers and cylinders" on a centrally-pivoted "swivelley-bit" to themselves? Somewhat like a very close-coupled version of one of the LNWR steam-motors .Just my illogical lateral thought process!

  7. A completely different science to male logic and it is impossible for either branch to understand the other.

    Jamie

That is because women are from Venus and Men are from Mars - and there is an enormous amount of space between them!

A prime example cam up this morning  - Her - Put your jeans over the bigger rack" so I did, and was wrong - to Her "bigger" means" wider", and not "taller!"  - this despite my explaining that I am bigger that her - ie Taller!

  8. .

Worst experience was a "pine" flavoured boiled sweet. I have never tasted a urinal refreshing disc but I think this sweet must be a very close match.

Possibly after a multitude of well-oiled patrons have used it as a target!

  9. So does mine. I checked this as the info display also gives current MPG (don't  sound like Ivan) and changing up when suggested makes a significant difference.

If yours is a Kia or Hyundai you know that you can change the display, don't you? - It can be fun ( and sobering!) watching your petrol consumption change If you " put the pedal to the metal"

  10. I couldn’t get it to recognise LM 315 at all, it did for quite a few LM 317 products though and I wa s able to go as far as the final checkout page before I deleted the order.

Suggest you turn your computer or tablet off , back on again and use another browser.

I haven’t used banggood, I like Rapid Electonics for my very rare occasional electronic items.

Sorry - I don't know how LM 315 got in there but I changed it to LM 317 about 2 minutes later when I saw it - Something odd going on!

  11. I don't know if other members use Banggood .com - but is anyone else having a problem with the site?  I'm attempting to buy a pair of LM317 Variable voltage controllers and the site appears to be flatly refusing to let me buy them - it appears to lock up on the second page where I'm trying to select "checkout with Paypal" or even "Proceed to checkout" , nor will it let me use the email them  button to ask if there is a site problem.

  12.

I received a parking fine from ParkingEye Ltd of Chorley..

It had a photograph of a Citroen car which had a number different to my car.

    I appealed...no response.. I wrote to them again..no response...

    Another reminder appeared today.

Have appealed again and sent a registered letter to them threatening legal action. It feels like scam but they are a legitimate company..just totally incompetent.

    Baz

That would be Ivan, then .....

    Bill

I wish you luck with "Parking Eye" of Chorley - They aren't (officially) scammers - but ARE a total pain in the butt to get any sense out of - It may result in you having to go to court to sort them out - but you may well have a claim against them for loss of earnings, etc - and good luck with trying to get them to pay you that!

  13. You forgot driving down the middle of the road when there is no white line, even when there is room for two artics to pass.

Reminds me of the saying, heard in one of our ex-colonial overseas bases some while back -  " De Yanks drives on the right, de Brits drives on the left, and de Belizeans drives straight down de f***ing middle of de road!"

  14. Afternoon Awl,

Now if this machine can be stopped by a little condensation how am I going to be able to ...

A, Increase air circulation to reduce condensation.

    ...

Would a computer fan, fitted so that the output fires at the appropriate place, solve the problem? - They seem to be available cheaply enough, though availability this close to Christmas may be a problem
