  1. Just spoke to SWMBO and my NCB's are waiting at home all wrapped up in string, hope they are ok reading the tales of woe!

Update on the sound scheme, got the startup to idle to running and back again sorted, just need to do the thrash and coast sections plus airhorns etc. Lots more hours tied to the PC methinks ....

  2. This wagon passed Manchester Piccadilly this morning, in a CWR train off Merseyrail Northern Line.

I think that's the one we'll be using with the Grinder, when we can find it, no-one knew where it was on Wednesday - not at Doncaster, maybe Toton, no, dunno then, we'd best go home ....

  4. A guy is sitting in the bar in departures at a busy airport.

A beautiful woman walks in and sits down at the table next to him.

He decides because she's got a uniform on, she's probably an off duty flight attendant.

So he decides to have a go at picking her up by identifying the airline she flies for thereby impressing her greatly.

He leans across to her and says the Delta Airlines motto " We love to fly and it shows ".

The woman looks at him blankly.

He sits back and thinks up another line.

He leans forward again and delivers the Air France motto "Winning the hearts of the world"..

Again she just stares at him with a slightly puzzled look on her face.

Undeterred, he tries again , this time saying the Malaysian Airlines motto "Going beyond expectations".

The woman looks at him sternly and says " What the f*** do you want ?"

"Ah!" he says , sitting back with a smile on his face, " Ryanair "

should this now be changed to BA???? laugh.gif laugh.gif tongue.gif

  6. Can't believe anyone on here does not have one yet, if two total BR Standard steam nuts like me and Ramrig have them what's your excuse?

Get one while you can, there's only 4000 of 'em (I'd phone Gareth at Trains4U, he needs a boost following the break-in at the weekend)

  7. Yeesss pleeeez !!!!

Of the prototype diesels, Lion was the only one to have been associated with the Midlands. The big ivory BRCW beast would be most welcome.

eh? since when was Mansfield & Shirebrook not in the midlands?

Lion would be tempting though, I must admit ......

  8. My Kestrel arrived yesteday. Had a couple of problems unfortunately. First off there were couplings in the box but they had got wedged between the body and one bogie. Soon sorted with a pair of tweezers but second problem was that one buffer beam had been forced off and in the process a buffer head had been broken off. Not the end of the world but a tad annoying though.

Rang Hatton's today. Spoke to Andy who told me he had a spare Kestrel they were using for spares (!) and he would mail me a replacement buffer beam assembly from it. Happy enough with that outcome but did wonder what other problems lead them to using one for spares?

There was a spare buffer beam in the box but as it is a limited edition and I have not decided yet whether to run it or keep it stored away it would be nice to have the replacement anyway.

Now I am sure I read somewhere they planned to trial it on coal trains to Banbury before the ER got their mits on it... wink.gif

    Regards

    Mike

That might be the difference in using a box shifter as opposed to a model shop. I got mine from Gareth at Trains4U and the couplings were supplied in the box in a little zippy bag. I don't know, but suspect that it might even have been tested before shipping. certainly had no problems with mine, no damage, well packed - very, very happy bunny biggrin.gif

  9. If it wasn't such a monumental waste of money, I'd seriously consider respraying one into Large Logo Blue.

And as a type 5, I'd probably number it Class 54 - Though it most likely would have been a 56, as the 56 as we know it wouldn't have been built.

of course it would be totally unethical for a retailer to obtain a spare bodyshell for a "damaged" Kestrel purely for the purposes of ficticious resprays wink.gif
