Big, or big?
My local growing up was Wolverhampton which always seemed to be a pretty decent size in the 80s and was on for 3 days on a bank holiday weekend. One year we went twice as there was an excellent Swiss layout which really captured my imagination, it was modelled down to even the same cars being parked at the station as had been there during the builder's photo survey.
A chap could still smoke a pipe indoors at that time and that sense memory stays with me.
Later I spent a couple of holidays staying with my grandad near London and he took me in to the Central Hall show, I was blown away! I saw Pete Wilson's Chwarel Cwm Bach there (008 rather than 009) so it must have been the very late 80s or early 90s.

I recently found my pair of module ends during a sort out so I'm maybe thinking about this again...

There's a good book on the railway(s) in the Middleton Press branchline series
https://www.middletonpress.co.uk/books/railways/narrow-gauge/cyprus-narrow-gauge.html
Roxey Mouldings has a selection of loco kits in 009

So it is modelable!

And most places i think take the money on arrival
It depends. With Premier Inn the best rates are usually paid in advance and non-cancellable.
Perhaps the principle of the arrangement is fine but the value of the allowance needs some work depending on venue, time of year and how far in advance the invitation is made.

You can put the "needless duplication" klaxon back in the cupboard - a fireless loco would definitely be in our ballpark and we might have gone there one day, but I strongly welcome this news from Rapido and look forward to giving one (or more) a home :D

2x 6' or 7' light railway termini with either a short scenic section or scenic break between then to run from "somewhere" to "somewhere else".

I asked ChatGPT to write a descriptive paragraph about train spotting and this is what it came up with
QuoteIn the realm of railway fascination, one finds an ethereal symphony choreographed by steel behemoths gliding through the tapestry of landscapes. Each locomotive emerges as a masterstroke on the canvas of time, their formidable frames boasting a marriage of engineering and artistry. The rhythmic pulsation of wheels on tracks echoes through the ether, a harmonious ballet of mechanical precision. Shadows dance in tandem with the trains, casting fleeting silhouettes upon platforms as enthusiasts stand sentinel, their eyes aglow with fervor. The grandeur of these iron stallions, adorned with a kaleidoscope of colors and motifs, enraptures the soul, transcending the mundane into an ode to locomotive splendor.
I think we're safe for now.

There was one on an n.g.line in France where the road crossed the railway by a means of a level crossing (same sort of distance from the tunmel mouth as at Bradford-On-Avon above).
Are you thinking of the Froissy, Cappy, Dompiere?
"Usually trains are diesel hauled through the tunnel, but on special occasions steam locos take their trains up onto the plateau. The tunnel is on a curve and rises at 1 in 30 and the track crosses a road on the level just outside the tunnel mouth.
At this point the bore is full of steam and smoke, so the loco crew put their trust in the crossing bell and lights and their own whistle and just keep going. The carriages are full of steam and smoke as well and this pours out of the windows as the train continues on up the hill. A steam hauled trip through Cappy tunnel is an unforgettable experience!"

Does the brake gear come away easily, please, in order to remove the keeper plate?
The brake rodding should unclip from between the shoe hangers and come away from the underside of the loco.
Not sure about the balance weights but if it would be helpful I could have a look at etching some based on our wheels.

This looks like an excellent line up.
With NG South in Eastleigh the day before I might need to negotiate an entire weekend to myself...

Looked at the leaflet with it to see how to chip it, and noticed the section relating to the brake rodding removal. I looked under mine to go and remove it in preparation for DCCing, and noticed the brake rodding wasn't fitted, nor was there any in the box.
You should definitely have brake rodding. If you can email a clear photo of the underside of the loco with your order number and address to info@planetindustrials.co.uk I'll see if I can put together some spares.
Having said that the brake rodding doesn't need to be removed to open up the loco, but there is a brake valve connection under the cab which should be disconnected from either body or chassis first.

If you copy and paste it into a new browser tab it works fine. Great photo!

I think it was a typo and should have been Bachmann - the commission and kit are/will be 00.

The majority of outstanding orders have dispatched this morning with Royal Mail, email notifications should signal arrival early next week.
The stragglers will go out on Monday when (even more) packing boxes have arrived.
Thanks again to everyone who supported the offer, it's really made a difference to our future options. ❤️

The volumes I shift are far too small to have a package supplier I think; its just too costly at this end, but I keep toying with the idea.
eBay is a pretty good bet for small quantities, feel free to drop me a line if you'd like any help sourcing things.

LRS has had a bit of a poorly-timed blockage this week dealing with a postage packaging supplier who are usually extremely reliable but failed to delivery promptly. Supplies are now in hand so it will be all hands to the pumps this weekend to get orders out to everyone who has supported this deal.

I feel like these particular models could do with the opposite - tighter radius turnouts than the current Peco 016.5 to bring out their potential for industrial operations.
