A tool I've recently added to my kit is a beer bottle top, it's the right size to sit on top of a chimney and stop a loco impersonating a fountain. I know chuff pipes stop fountain impersonations as well but I prefer the more natural sound of a loco without one.

"Would benefit from a service" I'm not sure that would be enough

After having 92214 pose as Evening Star it seems that they're trying to make German smoke deflectors to make her look like Flying Scotsman!

If I had a pound for every time this mouldy potato has come around, I'd be a millionaire!.
You might even have enough to restore 45015!
-
I never realised that when restoring a loco you worked methodically from front to back. No wonder NRM can't get Fl*ing Sc*tsman right
Speak of the devil and he shall appear!

That looks really good, it's amazing what one can do with common or garden items, some more specific items and a little time!

Only just found this thread, what a beautiful railway you have and it's always good to see more garden railways on RMWeb. I love the railbus and your Green Knight looks great, shame Cheddar aren't around any more.

MY EYES!
From one of the usual suspects, the description gets me "super detailed", I very much think not!
-
The only thing close to a gadget I have is a length of wire bent with a rounded arrow at one end to help me couple the 3 link couplings on my 16mm scale stock.
-
I know it's not railway related but it's from one of the usual suspects and it is absolutely vile!
-
"started to rust" hmmmm.
to be fair it does have potential...
-
Right, that has got to be real!
-
The rust effect on the MK1 is a bit overdone if you ask me!
-
And even worse the chimney topper and firebox are the wrong colour!
-
Not necessarily madness, more madcap! I quite like it, although I suspect tight corners could pose trouble for it.
-
Not madness, but I love the quote under item condition! Looks like it's had the full house of upgrades as well, I might be keeping an eye on this one.

Incredible, 17 bids!

I just don't understand why Thompson gets so much stick, I've never seen anything wrong with his locomotives, just because their rebuilds of Gresley designs, doesn't mean their poor runners does it?
Oops... I just realised that this conversation is once more heading down the path of being :offtopic: :offtopic: !!!!!!
Any how, thanks for the explanation in regards to the type of locomotives mentioned, however I still don't see how it explains the effect of a locomotive changing form in front of a crowd of people whilst on a exhibit layout.
I don't think that's too off topic, you've certianly set yourself up to be lynched by Gresley-fundamentalists!

On the assumption I can't submit Fowler road locos, I'll go for Lambton Tanks 5 & 29, the right mix of form & function with no stupid brass or copper getting in the way! When it comes to diesels, I really like the look of the Deltics, especially in TTG with small yellow panels or blue with white window surrounds. As I'm out of depth with electrics & probably already unpopular for suggesting Traction Engines on a railway forum I'll go for MER No.23, in Rebuilt form!

Loudly and without consideration pointing out any errors or anachronisms, no matter how trivial. I reckon that would do the trick!

IP Engineering were flogging the last ones off last year at £20, and the seller uses the magic word 'rare'!

I know it's a bit pricy but it does have a certificate of authenticity!
EBay madness

I admit that I don't keep up to date with NR's track maintenance vehicles but I don't think this model is 100% accurate.
