I was curious how many people bought their Truros to run, and how many ended up in display cases. I noticed in this thread one person having difficulties with the cranks but it seemed to be a one off. Then it stuck me that if the majority of the models ended up in display cases, perhaps the problem was more widespread. Now that people have been running them for around a year now, are they still reliable, or are they starting to show issues? Those plastic cranks against the metal con rods do give me the heebie jeebies!
Mine has been very good from January to September, don't be put off by the plastic cranks against metal con rods. I was the one who had problems with the cranks, so I replaced the first model and I do run it, or I did before I went to university. After the Christmas holidays I plan to bring some of my models and my rolling road to my flat.

Thanks Chris! A BR one for me then, now to decide which one properly. It would be so much easier if the 'household authorities' and my wallet would allow me to buy both!

Will the LNER one be lined or unlined? If it is lined that might be enough to tempt me for an LNER one, if not I'm heading to BR days for the Sentinel, then the problem will be deciding which one I think that it will be the vac braked early emblem for me.

To add some quality northern locos to the thread I'm just about certain that the Peppercorn K1 was running on the main lines in the 80's, however it was in LNER livery (not accurate for her as she was built by BR, but it looked very good!) and numbered 2005.

According to Britains Model Trains 2011 the Sentinel is priced at £69.95, if true that is really good value for a new loco from the ground up and for one that probably would never have been made by the 'big 2'

Very nice, and quiet too! Is that livery accurate?

Oh now I have to choose between a lined black or BR apple green one, why can't I afford both! Now which were the locos allocated to the Whitby and York areas, that could be the decider.

I woke up at some unknown hour to mankind this morning with an uncontrollable shiver, despite being relatively warm, then woke up at 6 feeling like a corpse, todays already going well!

Hattons have a new batch of class 15s in a darker and seemingly glossier shade of green so which is/was right?

An LNER V2 ended up in Swindon works and they put a copper capped chimney on it, there is a photo to prove it in a book.

What a bunch of vandals!

Here are three attempts at being creative, the first two are taken at Grosmont showing a weed growing on Dame Vera Lynn, the second has been tinkered with, using a website to 'tilt shift' it and the 3rd was taken at the Port Erin museum on the Isle of Man showing No.12 Hutchinson being prepared to return to Douglas.

For me it is a cop out as I cannot limit myself to any era or region of Britain's railways before the end of steam. For example I have a model of Super D No.49395 withdrawn in 1958 and a class 25 that was built in 1966. Preseved Lines may become more popular as there will be more people who love steam but cannot relate to the 'days' of steam, but that might also lead to a boom of diesel & electric modelling. I would say that for a convincing model ofa preserved line there has to be weathering, light on the rolling stock and
some control of which locos and rolling stock used, in my mind it is more realistic to suggest that a Patriot was preserved privatly or another few locos made it to Barry scrapyard than to run locos that stood no real choice of preservation such as the LNER garratt or Big Bertha (sorry if that all sounds creul or badly worded!)

Good thing that none of them survived into preservation or I'd buy one, in BR apple green...

I must not spend more money! I must not spend more money! I must not spend more money... oh never mind, they'll suit the taffy tank and pannier.

In the RCTS study of the 9fs, there are several interesting drawings of proposed heavy freight designs including a GWR 2-10-2t and some GCR beasts that make the O4 look more than a bit small.

I might buy one of those at York and I'm very tempted to buy a class 15, my day out is starting too look expensive!

Well the main issues on mine are glue (or lack of) while removing the cab one horn moulding pinged off and to the floor, once the cab was off one of the cab walls fell foul of a lack of glue, once reassembled and put on the track there was a alarming knock which came from the con rods hitting the steps on one side. Apart from those minor niggles which can be cured with some good glue it is superb, the quietest runner in the fleet and can haul more than I'll ever need.
The remaining jobs to do are to reattach all AWOL parts, attach the extra detail parts, modify the head code lighting by thinned down yellow paint and finally attach a head code. Simples!

They're just waiting for the replacement chassis...

A simple choice for me, a black Sentinel, a black Sentinel or a black Sentinel! I'm leaning to the LNER one at the moment.
