A tool I've recently added to my kit is a beer bottle top, it's the right size to sit on top of a chimney and stop a loco impersonating a fountain. I know chuff pipes stop fountain impersonations as well but I prefer the more natural sound of a loco without one.

I never realised that when restoring a loco you worked methodically from front to back. No wonder NRM can't get Fl*ing Sc*tsman right

Only just found this thread, what a beautiful railway you have and it's always good to see more garden railways on RMWeb. I love the railbus and your Green Knight looks great, shame Cheddar aren't around any more.

The only thing close to a gadget I have is a length of wire bent with a rounded arrow at one end to help me couple the 3 link couplings on my 16mm scale stock.

I just don't understand why Thompson gets so much stick, I've never seen anything wrong with his locomotives, just because their rebuilds of Gresley designs, doesn't mean their poor runners does it?
Oops... I just realised that this conversation is once more heading down the path of being
:offtopic: :offtopic: !!!!!!Any how, thanks for the explanation in regards to the type of locomotives mentioned, however I still don't see how it explains the effect of a locomotive changing form in front of a crowd of people whilst on a exhibit layout.
I don't think that's too off topic, you've certianly set yourself up to be lynched by Gresley-fundamentalists!

On the assumption I can't submit Fowler road locos, I'll go for Lambton Tanks 5 & 29, the right mix of form & function with no stupid brass or copper getting in the way!
When it comes to diesels, I really like the look of the Deltics, especially in TTG with small yellow panels or blue with white window surrounds. As I'm out of depth with electrics & probably already unpopular for suggesting Traction Engines on a railway forum I'll go for MER No.23, in Rebuilt form! -
