  1. Went to a hobby shop just north of Montreal on Wednesday...it has been nicknamed The Mothership. Long-story short....owner rich and doesn't care if stock sells or not..he sells at MSRP, no deals,no discounts. He probably has $2-3 million dollars of inventory, including stuff going back to the early 1990s...those he sells at 1990 MSRP. No website,no internet connection...strictly old-school.

  2. When our club decided to go with DCC and build a new about 10-12 years ago we decided on NCE. The thing that really convinced was I had a small home Inglenook layout useing NCE and one of the other club members had just converted his home layout, without mentioning it to us, to Digitrax. Once all the members had tried the two diffrent systems they all unanimously voted on going with NCE for the new club exhibition layout...including the member who had gone the Digitrax route...he immediatly sold his Digitrax and bought NCE.

  3. I'm sure you're dead right. But we are human, and users feel they have been unreasonably - er - messed about with. Wanting to stick a few home truths and observations, probably couched in basic Anglo-Saxon, into the perpetrator's mailbox, would seem a normal response to me. It makes us feel better. So in that respect, it accomplishes something intangible - but rewarding.

Dudders..I do agree with you and have been doing exactly that both through their webpage and their Facebook page...and on every forum I am a member of...venting can be healthy...I just keep in mind that it will probably actually accomplish nothing of substance.

  4. There is no need to pay that kind of money. That's just Photobucket exploiting a captive market.

You can have your own unlimited hosting for around £8 per month, with total control and no advertising, plus introductory offers for the first year, see for example:

      https://www.names.co.uk/web-hosting

Or alternatively it is entirely free to upload photos to RMweb, it is not necessary to use third party photo hosting at all. The forum pages load much faster that way.

    regards,

    Martin.

Martin I was responding to specifically this this by you when I wrote that......"All is not lost. You can simply pay them $399 and your work will be restored.

For 14 years hosting that's $28.50 per year, or less than $2.50 per month, which seems reasonable to me."

How or where people will store or host their photos going forward will be resolved over the coming days.....how to repair broken posts, blogs etc is going to be the big issue.

Then you have 12 months to move the photos somewhere else before they want another $399, or they close down, whichever comes first. But this time, have a paid-for contract for your photo hosting.

    regards,

    Martin.

Sure..thats assuming they actually remain solvent after you pay them. And even if they do, what about the folks, retired or on fixed-income and the not-for profits who cannot afford that kind of money every year. Personally I don't care because I stopped using them years ago...but I suspect we are all going to see alot of holes in various forum posts all over the internet, including here that become virtually useless due to Photobuckets actions. In the meantime just remember, everybody who has bern using their free service did so at the behest of Photobucket....nobody forced them to provide fre hosting for the past 14 years, and nobody stole a service from them.

  6. They don't give a sh!te about you loosing 14 years of dedicated work, spending all those (thousands of) hours you claim. Because they didn't get paid by you hosting your photo's on their servers

Welcome to reality, where money rules

Well duh! That's pretty obvious by their actions....so what's your point?

  7. Why Photobucket is changeing its operating conditions is pretty much irrelevant. How they implemented the change and its effect across the world is the point. The way they have implemented this whole thing has destroyed thousands upon thousands of hours of work by millions of people. 14 years of photos illustrating tens of thousands of forum posts, blogs, charity sites, sale sites etc have now been left with holes were photos used to illustrate the subjects discussed have now been made worthless. If it isn't actually criminal it seems pretty close and was definately unethical in my opinion. I would never trust Photobucket again and I certainly would never give them any money after this type of behaviour.

  8. Bluerail suggest turning off the auto pairing option in a multi control app environment. You will then have to select the loco to add it to your 'playlist' and release it if you want to make it available to other users. You could try that.

thinks - Are you running the Bachmann Ez app and the bluerail app at the same time?

Dave...no I only use the BlueRail app...it seems to be the better app so I actually don't even have the E-Z app on my phone.

I'm going to the club again tomorrow so I'll test it again and be sure to have the auto-pairing option turned-off. I teally can't remember if it was on or off at the club on Sunday, when I was having these issues.

Nile...thanks for the input....I'll run some more tests at the club tomorrow and then report back here and to Dave Rees at BlueRail.

    Cheers

    Gene
