  2. Maybe 1969, certainly not 1959. Not really expensive though, as there are several pieces of rolling stock and the relatively rare M7 plus a diesel (appears to be the class 31). At £3 each for the "carriages and carts" , £10 for the diesel and £20 for the M7, we are about at his starting price. However seeing it's been relisted, it would appear not to be in great demand.

  7. The prices asked/paid for Wrenn items never cease to amaze me (see the current Wrenn website ). Especially in the case of items in ficticious/erroneous liveries like this one - these vans first appeared during the 'shirtbutton' period and, in any case, the lettering should be yellow.
  8. The GWR indeed used flatbottom rail in the 19th century, but this isn't it (too heavy section).
  9. Apart from the collector's price, (does anyone collect this stuff?) how does "some lining loss" equate with "MINT BOXED"?

  11. Cynically, I would have thought it more likely they were made oversize to fit around Hornby's motor. I believe the Bachmann 'Toby' is more to scale, but I've never seen one. The bridge at Par is/was very low!
  12. I wasn't aware they did this in 0 gauge . There is an H0 version (cat. no. 2842). It's a container tank and came originally with 3 companions as a load for a container flat (usually labelled DB rather than SJ). My '74/75 Lima catalogue describes it as, "Platform car, 4 wheels, with spherical containers of the Swedish Company "SLOTTS". I would think £5 was about right for the whole wagon!
  13. Oops, I should have read things more carefully! AFAIK the Hornby E2 has always had the same wheels - one size fits neither for the LMS 3F 0-6-0 tank and the 9F 2-10-0. But even the early Tri-ang chassis have 19mm wheels. I would have thought that it was only necessary to lower the body on the chassis, as the buffers are too high anyway.
  14. IIRC it's a staggering £35,000* for a tatty pre-war Märklin LMS compound body (no works!) and tender. Strictly H0 not 00, but scale is arbitary in this case.   16. Can you do this one ? Many Tri-ang/Hornby locos have the body full of motor.
  17. The Crescent signal is very rare - it's not suffering from mazak disease. It might have suffered a repaint though, as all these I've seen have Crescent's strange reversed colours on the arm (red stripe on white arm). The rest is tat, even the Dublo buffer stop has the wires bent.
  18. The Gaiety 'thing' has been mentioned before. No not even the chimney! The whole thing is 'collectors only' The chassis* is not bad (for the time) with a five pole motor but delicate works and often eccentric wheels. They were sold with Dublo or Tri-ang chassis. Even as a boy I thought it was horrible. It has the worst ever representation of a GWR safety valve casing. I think it's supposed to be a 27xx despite bearing the number 5700. * Not included here. The 3mm Society tried to stop Tri-ang TT being collectable. Obviously they failed. There are some silly prices.

  20. Low GWR tenders had extended brackets for these sheets. (They can be seen in the above photo.) At least one R-T-R model has them rolled under the cab roof, but I can't remember which off hand.
  21. Sold for £10! I note the seller says he has 8 of them. That would be 8 more than the GWR had! (There's a slight similarity to a thirties' diagram, but nothing like this existed in 1880 - 1906. - to be pedantic (as usual) the livery is actually early 1900s and should have black beading and brown ends and the coach is a third not a composite however it's marked)
  22. For some unknown reason, all the Tri-ang military series is collectable. This is a rare item for the Canadian market only and so attracts a premium and also is in excellent complete condition.... There's a list of previously realised prices at the bottom of the bumpf! The price is probably reasonable - in the collector's market all sorts of strange things happen. Quite a good investment for $25.95 Canadian. (It's really just a collection of some of Tri-ang's cr@ppier efforts IMHO.)
  23. Their value lies in being part of our heritage. In terms of hard cash, they are almost worthless and can usually be found at swapmeets for a couple of pounds. I have four of them sitting in front of me as I type and others stored away. Mazak corrosion must be due to damp, I think, as none of mine suffer from it. (Unlike Trix hoppers, Weltrols and lighted brake vans which all seem to suffer.)
